ME3 Suggested Changes Feedback Thread - Spoilers Allowed

Go with IDT, it's the only way out. It really would turn the worst ending ever into the best, nothing need be taken out of the current ending, the pieces are there already to build upon.. It works.
Furthermore, there can only be two reasons this thread even exists.
1. You want fans to be able to vent their constructive critism and thoughts into one place where they think they might have a better chance of being heard.
2. You purposely left the end of the game open to gather as much feedback from fans as you could to get an idea of what we (as fans) want out of the ending.
After finishing ME3 and hearing about IDT, I thought it was your plan all along.. Though after seeing the backlash and apparent shock by it on your part, I'm fairly certain this isn't the case. However, if the 2nd point is true above^ then maybe I need to do a double take on my assumptions because it may indeed have been your plan. Though highly doubtful because we all know how EA sees their fans.
So, make IDT true, make the crucible's true nature a massive galactic wide overload mechanism to bring down the Reapers kinetic barriers thus allowing the galaxy to finish the war conventionally, (if you think that's far-fetched what about the synthesis ending?) Obviously this is a bit of a stretch to put into cinematics tho, but it could be as simple as showing sword fleet wipe out harbinger, thus claiming a moral victory before wiping out other capital ships en route to total victory.
Lastly, I don't expect this to be read by anyone from Bioware staff let alone incorporated into the game, so if you don't take the idea then whatever. At least I got it out there.

Think about this from a dev standpoint. Asking for more dialogue means you will have to bring back actors, who have their on schedules, their is the matter of payment and contract stuff. They won't do it. I'm not going to be popular when I state that some people must get over the fact that the ending blows, and that the game is full of auto dialog.
They can add on the ending with some extra cut-scenes, they are pre-rendered and don't demand any user input, but they won't change it (which they have already stated), so stop wasting time asking them to use the indoctrination theory, or changing story elements. Having to change mid-game scenes, like someone suggested Shepard should fight kei leng along with Thane/Kirahee instead of just standing their, that's downward silly.
You people want to download 5 gig's of extended cut dlc?
Let's not to forget the fact that on the 360, the game comes on two discs so they will have to configure that dlc to work with said disc where the edited scene is located on. To much trouble, and I don't think this is cost effective.
Now what they can do in single player, and what I suggest they should change is the mission log.
Separate Priority and secondary in different tabs, and make it so that when you unlock a secondary objective, like fetch item a on planet b, it show up on the galaxy map the same it did like in ME2. It's just much simpler.
I know the scanning is necessary for exploration purposes, finding missing flotillas or cruisers, but for instance, when you have to get the book of plenix on the Volus homeworld, that location is very well know and should be marked on the galaxy map.
I shouldn't be that hard, the already listed priority mission with the priority prefix. It's just a matter of GUI change and that's basically it. I'm not going to minimize the effort, but it is something that can be done.
I urge everybody to become realistic, provide realistic fixes for the game, be it single player or multiplayer.
Else Bioware will either lock this thread and be done with it, or they won't bother anymore to take a look. Which frankly, I think they already are doing, and I can't blame them if they don't read anymore of the stuff people put out.

Personally, I think ME3 is an amazing game...up until the end. Like one of my friends said, it almost seemed like you just...rushed it. There was nothing there that was what we wanted. No reflection of our choices through the game. No multiple, entirely different, endings. No explanation of the immediate there-after. The ending aside, it was a beautiful game as far as I'm concerned.
I've recently had an idea for how I might have ended it. Somewhere soon after the Thessia mission...the Reapers find and hit the Crucible. It's gone, destroyed, the data gone. This could have resulted in the biggest, most emotionally outcrying scene with Shepherd of the entire series, to the point of giving the players, just for a moment, the gutwrenching feeling that Shepherd was about to suicide or something...BUT...then the romance choice steps in (possibly even already there, having been arguing with Shepherd during the outcry) Shepherd's thinking it was all pointless and all for nothing, but the romance choice explains to him/her that it wasn't cause Shepherd still has the accomplishment of bringing all the races together and there may still be a way. Shepherd turns his/her depression/hopelessness to anger and determination which fuels him/her to come up with a plan. Shepherd realizes, whether from an outside source or not, that in order to figure out a way to stop the Reapers they need to know them, understand them. So Shepherd makes this bold plan to somehow infiltrate a living Reaper, to find its core/main computer/whatever to find out who/what the Reapers really are, where they came from, do they have a weakness or...anything that could be used to stop them as a whole. Maybe even have some kind of (obvious) fight with attempted indoctrination while Shepherd's aboard the Reaper. You could even have some sort of little boss fight at the end of the mission. Eventually Shepherd finds what he's looking for, takes it, and learns virtually everything about the Reapers. He discovers some massive weakness they have, or some way to destroy them through some type of connection they all have to each other...whatever, anything, lol, I really don't know at this point. I can ALMOST come up with something really good, some really epic way to end it, that would satisfy everyone and leave choice in there, with completely different results and endings, that DO culminate in an amalgamation of Shepherd's decisions through all three games, and yes, I know that something like this is, to quote Shepherd, a "tall order", yes VERY tall indeed, and even when I was reading that people wanted that, I TOO felt like they were asking too much...but after thinking about it as much as I have, I really think it is possible to do it. I can almost get close to it just sitting here thinking about it, and I know that the brilliant minds that came up with such a beautiful and in-depth universe like that of Mass Effect could undoubtedly end it as perfectly as it should be.
I hate that ending. I'm sorry. But I don't rip my faith in somebody away because of one mistake...even one as big as that ending. I still have faith that redemption can be made. I hope that it will, and if not...so be it. I will remember Mass Effect for everything I loved about it so much, not the one part that I didn't.

I have taken some time and thought to put together a review of what aspects of ME 3 were rewarding and why, and what I would most like to see changed. I categorized this broadly as "Sadness" and "Happiness". "Sadness" will come first so we can end on a happy note. So, here goes!
Sadness
Aside from the ending, which I’m not discussing here, my major complaints tend to revolve around Thane. His was my favourite romance from any Bioware game in ME 2, and it could so easily have been in ME 3 as well.
Everything about the death scene is incredible, an amazing conclusion to his character arc which represents perfectly who he is. And the letter you receive afterwards just kills me (I had read it in LotSB, but it is a lot more thematically relevant when read in ME 3). It also makes killing Kai Leng far more meaningful. But Shep is so cold prior to and after the death scene; “I wish the best for you, Thane” is such a distant, unaffectionate way to end the looped conversation with the man who is supposed to be the love of her life. And why does Thane say he is flattered every time she comes by?? He is dying; he should expect his partner to drop by to check on him at every opportunity. After his fight with Kai Leng, Shepard is the most cold yet – the idea that she would leave someone she loves alone and bleeding out, without a backwards glance is horrifying. And then after his death, I would like to imagine my Shepard would have corrected people who credited her with saving the Salarian councilor (it was THANE, guys, why do you all have amnesia?!), and would have sounded a lot more cranky/devastated when talking to Kaidan or Garrus about its aftermath.
It made me a little sad that I could have three conversations at the hospital with Ash/Kaidan while only ever having one with Thane. One easy way to help this problem would be to have him write letters, perhaps – it wouldn’t require any extra voice work or animating, and it would mean a lot to us Thane-romancers. Also, having him say ‘Siha’ instead of Shepard at any given time makes a world of difference – it’s a subtle change, but an acknowledgement of their relationship that speaks volumes.
And the biggest problem was the lack of acknowledgement of Thane’s death. I spend all this time supporting Ashley and Cortez through the loss of their loved ones, and they don’t even have the decency to say they are sorry for my loss?? EDI talks to me about the possibility of outliving Joker without considering I had experienced the same thing very recently? After our heart to heart about Thane in LotSB, Liara can’t take the time to check in on me? It really gutted me – it took me a long time to start playing again after this, and when I did my relationships with Shepard’s supposed best friends – Joker, Garrus, Liara – suddenly felt far less genuine, and never really recovered.
So if there is one thing in the game you could change, I would beg for it to be that – I have issues with the thematic consistency of the ending, but for me it’s only a portion of the narrative, and one I can overlook using Indoc theory. But the heart of ME is the amazing relationships I’ve built up through Shepard over the course of three games, and the handling of Thane’s romance soured them for me. I desperately want the chance to repair those friendships, and play through a game where Shep can express how much she cares about Thane, and feel like she is loved and supported by her crew throughout the tragedy of his loss.
Another note; as someone who loved to hate Kai Leng in the books, I felt that the thing which really makes him despicable –his belief that aliens basically don’t deserve to live just because they are aliens – wasn’t present in the game. It could have exploited to make Shepard want to kick his butt even more. For example, it would have been great to have him make a personal jab at a Shepard who romanced an alien (particularly Thane!) – since that would be totally repugnant to him and really get Shep up in arms!
So these improving these two things - Thane and Kai Leng - would make a world of difference to my experience. I don't know if this is in the cards for EC, but I sure hope so!
Happiness
For my part, I loved the dream sequences – they were one of my favourite parts of the game. I loved the moment of confusion during the first one, of trying to figure out what was doing on. I thought the art design was beautiful, the music and sound design very atmospheric, and the first time I played through them, I was extremely moved – in particular by the one following Mordin’s death. I do find the last one cuts off a bit abruptly – I love running around in the strange dreamworld, so I would appreciate being left to do so at my leisure, particularly to hear the various voices and lines.
And along the lines of sound design; the sound of ME 3 is nothing short of brilliant. I’m a musician irl, and it’s fair to say that nothing takes me out of a moment like poor sound editing, and that I really appreciate the totally immersive power of exceptional sound editing. ME 3’s is consistently exceptional; off the top of my head there are so many times – scenes with the Catalyst, the dream sequences, curing the genophage, the ambient stuff on the Citadel – where the sound was haunting, unforgettable, cathartic, beautiful, epic, or some combination thereof. I noticed some really fascinating reuse of themes throughout as well – I mention it because while I imagine it went unnoticed by some people, there are those of us who really appreciate the scope of what the audio team has done. Perhaps there is a paper on the use musical motives in ME 3 in my future……
I’ve also seen some criticism of the Reaper fight on Rannoch…. To which my response, is, WHAT?? I adored it. I kept dying in it, and every time I leapt up and ran around my house telling whoever I ran into that I had been killed by a Reaper and it was so exciting. I loved every second of it. I especially loved the slow-mo bit when you’re finally about to kill him. And getting to renegade interrupt a Reaper?? Priceless.
My greatest happiness, though, was that the genophage storyline was resolved more brilliantly than I ever could have imagined. That moment where Eve speaks out about the future of the krogan, with that incredible music – for me, this was the most poignant moment in all three games. It reminds me of the conversation with Vigil in Mass Effect, another moment where the music, writing, overall thematic material come together to create this incredible sense of awe at what we are witnessing: the birth of hope, of a future and potential and possibilities, in the face of desperation and extinction. I still hadn’t played many video games when I played ME, and that it is the exact moment where I realized the narrative power video games could have. I can very specifically say it is the first moment that I experienced video games as art. I didn’t believe it would be possible to create anything better than that moment – but I was proven wrong by Eve’s speech.
And aside from containing that glorious moment, the genophage arc its entirety is a masterpiece. There is something wonderful about allowing Shepard, who seems to be followed around by destruction and death, to play a part in something that is a tangible act of creation. It’s also fantastic that, although Shepard has (heh heh) shepherded everyone to this point in time, it’s not her moment alone – she gets to watch her friends be leaders and heroes in their own right. It’s an emotional rollercoaster – fear, excitement, adrenaline, wonder at the discovery of the old city, pride for Mordin and Wrex, and the perfect mix of joy, grief, and peace in the final scenes. I know that this sequence unfolds differently for different players, but the way I experienced it the first time, it was such a privilege to be a part of it.
That’s how I feel about the Mass Effect series overall – it was a privilege to be a part of it. In addition to being a source of joy and fun in my life, Shepard’s character in particular has made a difference in how I live. As a young woman, I am a bit stronger, a bit more confident, and a little more persistent for having walked in Shepard’s shoes for a while. That is invaluable, and I am truly grateful.
I'm not sure if Bioware is still keeping tabs on these posts, but if you are - I hope this has helped, and I hope I have communicated a little of what your work has meant to me over these years.

Yeah, I know that if I import my ME3 character, I get a bunch of stuff, but why the **** would I want to be the EXACT same character as the EXACT same class with the EXACT same choices carried over?

this is just a quick suggestion, as xbox players require a gold subscribtion to play multiplayer, it can be a bit of hastle having to pay £15.00-£35.00 just to play co-op to get the highest possible EMS, so i think it would eb a good idea if in future DLC you could add new war assets which gives the same contribution as having 100% galactic readiness.
THIS. We need a like button on thes forums, 'cause I would 'like' the hell of this Idea:P.
I would love to see some new armor for characters and Shepard. I'm a sucker for N7 gear, so everything with N7 on it, I need:D
Also if it could be possible to have an option for Shepard to always have his helmet off in gameplay, like you can select for your squad member. I got the N7 Defender armor, but I hate the helmet. I'm a helmetless kind of guy, so it would be great for the option to not show the helmet wouldn't be restricted to just cutscenes.

The Negative:
-What the hell with the Jersey Shorification of Mass Effect, the whole James "ese", "loco", are you gonna tell me people speak like that 300 hundred years since now? please... What will it be next time, M.E. : U.S.A. ?
-Google pictures plagiarism, for God's sake, have some "artistic integrity" like Bioware once had, I don't know who's the genius over there who thinks that copying Google pics is ok, but if the guy lacks of proper imagination then he shouldn't be working in that section...
-Character animations, love how the females walk like machos in this game...and so does the rest of the characters...
-STILL LACK OF PROPER OPEN WORLD AREAS TO EXPLORE like the planets in the first ME game? come on new Bioware staff... what about other cities, planets to shop/side-quests?
ME3 Citatel is just a bunch of straight foward corridors, and the shops are just a bunch of terminals? Is that the best Bioware can do now?
-No proper companions armor customisation, lazy Bioware is lazy...
-Overall art design feels more like the future is set in our current time, I see people still use the same material for cooking, 3 HUNDRED YEARS LATER...
-Still hate the ammo stuff, I wish the dude that thought it was a good idea to include that mechanism in ME was fired, thank God there's the Particle Rifle, which copies the same animation of the first ME game weapons, haha...
-The whole Prothean retcon, at least they tried to make it coherent...
-Auto-dialog and forcing us to make our Shepard look like a "baaaaaadasssssss", just look at FAIL Leng ffs...
-The endings, the last minute HateChild, and the whole Reapers retcon, Like Zaeed Massani would say: "Should have stayed with the original Dark Matter plot instead, I **** you not."
-Multiplayer Horde mode, I wish I hadn't linked those Gears of War videos in these forums years ago...
-Day 1 10$ DLC even for those who pre-order the regular edition game? I'm glad I waited for a LARGE price drop, from now on, no more Bioware full price buys or pre-orders.
Now for the Positive:
-Overall, the game is at least much more enjoyable to play than the horror called Mass Effect 2.
-PART of the main story and side quests are really good, I'm glad to see that Bioware tried to go more like Mass Effect 1 quality storytelling rather than punkass ME2 craptelling, even the characters like Jack and Grunt were much more enjoyable to interact with.
And it looks like Bioware tried to apologize by at least making Liara and some other returning characters more coherent and positive this time.
-The Citadel felt more alive this time.
-... Can't think of anything else... oh yes, now planet scanning is somehow bearable!

I've read so many postings on the subject of the ending and/or ME3 in and/of itself, that I have nothing further to contribute.
My suggestion is for any of the future ME games/novels.
Mainly, story arcs: I recently spent $120.00 on COD MW3. I paid this amount of money for an ELITE subscription service as well as any DLC releases over the next year. As far as ME3 is concerned, there were umpteen different story arcs that needed to be addressed heading into this game. I wouldn't have thought twice about shelling out the extra cash for the extra game development/writing/content. Remember, many fans had already spent twice the retail price of ME3 to get additional content for a mindless MP shooter game. This game has a rich story, filled with tough decisions, a romance that felt real, and an end goal that was truly epic.
Hence, my suggestion for future games is to stick to what made this game successful in the first place. The characters are important. The story is important. The CHOICES are important. Bioware, in my opinion, you have some of the most passionate and loyal fans any game developer could hope for. If there are additional development and writing costs to the third game of a trilogy (which I'm sure there are) then charge a little bit more for the game. I know this is a little bit selfish, but I'd much rather see the third game of a trilogy cater more to the fans who have followed the entire series, than to just anyone out there. It seems if you have forgotten all the sci-fi "techies" that put ME on the map, and then tried to make this game as main-stream as possible.
Just work with the fans of THIS genre. We're not perfect, but we'll buy the games we like. If you want to cater to a diffent audience, then make a diffent game. I shouldn't have to force myself to replay this game. I have and I'm glad I did, but the endings, the way they are now don't even come close to meeting my expectations for this epic finale.

Through out the series, Bioware has succeeded in making us care about the characters. They succeeded in letting up emmerse ourselves and live vicariously through Commander Shepard.
This is why the ending is traumatic for many of us.
Please, understand this.
"Shindler's List" was an award winning movie, but I doutb many people subjected themselves through repeated veiwings.
Conversely, people went to see "Raider's of the Lost Ark", over and over again. As they did "Star Wars".
The point I'm making is that only a masochist wants to subject themselves to unhappiness repeatedly.

this girl is a phenominal writer and i believe bioware should take a look at her work. most ash w. fans will agree that there wasnt enough banter/scenes for ash and would like more in possible dlc. i know this might be a long shot but who knows maybe you guys will be impressed enough to use her work in future dlc.
ps. thank you for an amazing series

THE ENDINGS:
The only changes I suggest is show all of my war assets in the final battle, including cutscenes with all squadmates that are still alive past and present. Clarify very clearly that intergalactic travel, trade, government, and cooperation is still viable. Harbinger has a bigger role, there is closure with Harbinger and a conversation with him. Have the Geth and EDI survive with a high enough EMS score in Destroy ending. Show Shepard reuniting with his crew if he's still alive, and have an epilogue showing the consequences of all our choices. Also fix the flashback to show whoever your romance is, not just Liara and the VS
The rest of the game:
Liara romance fixes: if you re-kindled your romance in LotSB fix the dialog error that makes Liara think it's been years since you were together in her first conversation. Also reword the "Just friends" line on the citadel if you've been loyal to Liara for 3 games.
Tali romance fixes: give her a date on the citadel like the rest. and make an in game model of her face for her romance scene and extend it a tiny bit.
Jack romance fix: give a it little more content 1 or 2 more conversations and a satisfying romance scene
Miranda romance fix: same as Jack (Give satisfying romance scene)
Samara romance fix: Give them anything. A kiss a hug something. you threw them under the bus.
Thane Romance: Give them a date on the citadel or a couple more interactions.
Jacob romance fix: Give renegade option to kick him in the balls for cheating on you.
All romances: Make it so you can call them up to your room during down time like in ME2
Grunt: Make him the 2nd DLC squadmate. If he survives the Rachni mission he is reassigned to the Normandy. Put him in the Life Support or Hanger with James. There are not enough ME2 squadmates and this would make the squad an even number with 8 and we'd have the Krogan squadmate we've always had throughout Mass Effect.
Fix the bug with Tali's banter and Ken and Gabby's banter that only activates if you are good friends with Ash. Kaidan fans miss out on awesome banter with this bug. THIS NEEDS TO BE FIXED!!!
Sync up the auto and lip animations in some scenes
add more side missions in DLC.
Make a SP DLC that allows us to go on Palaven's surface and save Kal'Reeger
Make Retake Omega DLC that includes the NPC'S: Aria T'Loak, Patriarch, Capt. Gavorn, Feron, Tazzik.
Make Retake Illium DLC.
Make at least 4 or 5 single player DLC's Examples: LotSB, Arrival, Kasumi stolen Memory, Zaeed: Price of Revenge, Overlord.
Doubt this will happen but make it possible to save Legion. Make a side quest or something that can help him survive.......I know this probably won't happen but Legion dying is the most heartbreaking thing of the trilogy and I need my brobot back......If there is a way to save him make Legion the thrid DLC squadmate
(Bolded comments are the most important and what I think needs to happen)

A lot of good suggestions in this post; while I'm happy with Legion's role and demise in ME3, at least a few of the old squad mates should have come back. Grunt, Miranda and Samara all seemed like good possibilities given their respective circumstances in the game, and Jack should have come back by virtue of her redesign alone.
The opportunities for single player DLC in ME3 are overwhelming.
Many people were disappointed with the role the Rachni played in ME3. So I suggest a 2-3 mission DLC pack, called 'The Return of the Rachni' which would trigger directly after that mission in the main campaign. If the player rescues the Queen, she would actually appear in the Normandy cargo bay (freaking out Vega and Cortez) and we would have to reunite her with the forces she's been building up, perhaps securing her new hive from Reaper or Cerberus forces in the in the process. Afterwards the Rachni would appear in the War Assets and final battle cut-scenes as an separate faction with fleets and armies to offer. Another mission might require you to bring some Asari commandoes onside to serve as co-ordinators between Rachni and Alliance forces on the battlefield. Bugs are always bad guys in games like these, it might be nice to fight for them for a change and it’s great opportunity to develop the Rachni as Race with culture and artistry beyond the usual ‘hole in the ground’ insect hive.
Beyond that, Omega and Illium DLCs would be excellent, as would single player DLC quests that turn fetch quests into actual side quests would be awesome. The player might actual visit that Asari library, and worlds like Irune and Dekuuna.

More Rachni missions would be brilliant. and I love the idea about the Asari Library and Irnune and Dekuuna.

They explain at greater length the issues I mentioned above. The guy is very articulate and witty; please just suck up your pride and scrap the majority of the ending as it stands now (replace it entirely). The central problem of the ending is not that it is depressing (we loved every sad moment before this), and it is not simply a problem of confusion. The ending breaks from the established narrative cohesion of the trilogy. This cannot be fixed by adding more content to explain the poor narrative at the end. Why add more content to explain how a bad thing, is in fact less bad? Considering how amazing other story lines were delivered and ended in ME3 (genophage, Quarian/Geth etc.), the ending is surprisingly bad. Look at what you did right Bioware, and particularly WHY it was done so well--then ask yourself if the ending and any additional content to it, is of the same narrative consistency.

I really hope that Bioware is considering all options to prepare the Extended-Cut DLC. All the game is awesome, but the ending ruins completly the replayability of the 3 games for me. Sad but true.
I respect their artistic integrity on ME3 endings (even if I am not really happy with them), but their artististic vision has to be in line with the scenario and the story.
To summarize quickly, as explained before, StarChild (in the form of the child whose death has traumatized Shepard) explained to Shep that war between organics and synthetics is inevitable, that synthetics always face their creator, and the cycle (harvest organic species evolved) was his solution to avoid chaos.
Realizing that his solution does not work any more, he proposed to Shepard to find a new solution:
a) Either the control (blue): Shepard becomes a reaper and could control them = peace preserved, Shepard "dies";
c) Or the Synthesis (green): creation of a DNA half-organic, semi-synthetic = peace preserved, Shepard dies (the worst solution in my opinion, because every race is losing its own identity).
But as MY Shepard proved that peace is possible between organics and synthetics (remember Rannoch), so the war can be avoided, he should be able to challenge the point of view and the existing solutions proposed by StarChild, which are now "stone age" solutions, and could request a new one (and new color) : the destruction of the reapers, and only the reapers (paragon). And why not a happy ending ?
As someone said : What's wrong with a happy ending? Real life sucks enough as it is, I play Bioware games to escape reality, and a happy ending for those of us who played a pure Paragon and completed all the necessary missions across all three games isn't too much to ask, is it?
And obviously I dont understand how my partners have been teleported from Earth to Normandy after Habringer's attack. My feelings : the ending seems to be sloppy, unrelated to the seriousness and quality which Bioware have shown so far.
Please Bioware, consider all options !
PS : sorry for my poor english.

I mention this partly because dialogue and discussion with in-game characters has always been something i've loved about Bioware games, and it seemed a bit lacking at this point.
