Imagine yourself before you finished the game.  Let's say, you took a break right after firing the second missile launcher at the Reaper Destroyer in London, and that's all you knew about the game.  What would you have rated Mass Effect 3 at that point out of 10, with 10 being Perfect?

For me, I would have given this game a 9 at that point.  I would have liked a little more "RPG" in my shooter, and there were a few minor graphical hiccups in conversations, but up to that point in the game I was having an absolute blast.  I helped some old friends out, even a few to have "good deaths", and I worked my butt off the bring the largest fleet in 50,000 years to bear on my enemy.

Personally, the scene where the fleet arrives and the space battle began was freak'n epic.  I quite enjoyed the street fighting to get to the "end", too.

NOW, rate just the Ending.  There's only one Ending.  Now matter how they try to spin it, it really is just the one.

0/10.  The ending honestly ruined the entire series.  I don't have to go into the details.  They've been covered.  Had they just ended it at the TIM encounter, and then given you an ending crafted from your choices, with a DA:O wrap up for your friends and the galaxy as a whole, I would have walked away happy.  Hell, I'd have imported my next ME2 save and immediately started playing again.  But, I just can't now.  I HATE this ending that much.

EDIT:
http://blog.bioware....012/03/21/4108/

Dr. Ray Muzyka, one of the co-founders of Mass Effect has officially responded to the Ending Controversy.  As is clear in the responses to this topic, I can wholeheartedly agree with him, as apparently most of you do, that the game prior to the ending was exceptional.  Yes, there are a few minor graphical hiccups, a bug or two in some quests, and the Mission Journal should default to the top, but the story prior to the ending and the game play was fantastic.  I do thank Bioware for that.

It also sounds like, from his comments, that we'll get some more info in a few weeks about what they intend to do in the short term.  Dr. Muzyka does not outright say it, but it sounds like they are, at the very least, looking at making an Epilogue which will answer all of the "but, what happened" questions.  So, HOLD THE LINE, and we'll see what happens.

1/10 ending. The green color (my favoirte) was really awesome.

Also welcome to the party. You're in for a wild ride.

I have other topics on here.  I was just curious if most of you, like me, really loved the rest of the game until the ending ruined it.

10/10, loved the entire ride.

Then I got punched in the face by the worst ending Ive ever seen

Edit: actually yeah, 9/10, due to multiplayer being required for the "best" ending and Talis Face

9.5/10 it's a great game but some minor bugs and flaws make it impossible to call it absolutely perfect. With the ending I reduce it to an 8. To me 5 minutes out of 100+hours of a trilogy does not ruin everything.

8/10 without ending. The quest structure for sidequests is very annoying.

Trust me when I say that a major reason that the game seems as good as it does is that the terribad of the ending is blanking out a lot of other stuff.

Not saying it's not a great game, just not as perfect as you're thinking.

9.9/10 for the ending.
10/10 for the trilogy as a whole.
Am I doing it wrong?

I wouldn't go 10/10 but minus the ending, it's a damn good game. probably a 7 or 8.

Some things that contributed to a lower score are
- Tali hackjob
- lack of war assets in final battle
- lack of worlds to explore (no Palaven, no Hanar homeworld, no Elcor homeworld, ect.)
- lack of squadmates

Other than that (and the ending) it was excellent.

The cover system was a little off at times and the quest journal didn't work right but otherwise it was fantastic.

It fades a bit starting with the Thessia mission set because they are less personal than the Tuchanka and Rannoch mission sets, but it was still really good...until I met god...

The game before charging the beam - 9.7/10

The ending - 2/10. It only gets that high because at least it IS an ending, however terrible.

Rate a narrative-based game without the ending? Would you like me to bake a cake without the sugar, too?
