8.5/10. They messed up the most basic part of RPGs: the mission system. In Mass Effect 2 we have a main mission list and a side mission list with progress markers for each mission. In Mass Effect 3 we get only the mission titles all grouped together with a VERY vague explanation as to our objective. The only way to make sure you've done a mission is to explore a relay system till you get 100% and then go to the Citadel, search your map for someone who wasn't there before then go to that person and give them whatever item you've forgotten about. Also, I get missions just by overhearing them?? That's dumb. It happened occasionally in ME 2, but most of the time we saw there was a person to talk to, asked them a few probing questions like a normal conversation, and ended up saying, "yeah, I can do that." In ME 3 you overhear them, give them the thing and they're just like, "Wait what? Ummm okayyyy. Thanks?" Totally awkward.

The Center morality choice is missing for some reason...

The Quarians go to war anyway...

Your crew. OMG your crew. Do you get personal moment with them? Yes. But not nearly what we had in ME 2. And they don't even want to talk to you most of the time. They're just like, "Hey Shep," and that's it I thought the crew number was shortened so that we could get MORE time with them, not less. ME 2 fit more character interaction in per character even though the squad was twice as big.

That said, the combat and the limited character interactions you do get are amazing.

Opening Post editted with a link and comments about Dr Ray Muzyka's response to the Ending Controversy. I recommend going back and reading it.

The game could have easily been the best of the trilogy.

It's been a blast so far - I've not finished it. In fact, I have no intention of finishing it. I really don't want to ruin an otherwise excellent experience. It's bad enough reading about it.

I don't understand how people are giving it 10/10. I think people are so distracted by the ending they think ME3 is otherwise flawless.

Without the ending?

Well, give it some patches, as well as some uh...software that makes it NOT require origin for singleplayer, and id give it a 9/10. While I believe the original Mass Effect rates the highest because of its originality and more futuristic ideals, Mass Effect 2 comes in very close, the only major weakness being its length. I think over time, Mass Effect 3 will be on par with 2 if it has a good ending and such.

For me it had to many other flaws as well. (quest system/journal are just awful, some animations, glitches, you get stuck somewhere, side missions where you just need to scan planets instead of going down and actually play through a mission,

I don't like number scores, and the game is far from perfect, but it was still really, really enjoyable up until the ending.

10/10.

With the ending...9.8/10

No matter how unsatisfied I was with the closing moments, I cant deny what a blast I had with my 45 hours through this game, and im still having a ton of fun on my current insane play through.

I guess for me I just over look the few minor glitches that popped up.  Were some of the conversations glitchy?  Yes, but it was rare.  Did I have one quest glitch up and I had to restart it a few times?  Yes, but I got past it.  Should the Journal have defaulted to the Top?  Heck, yes, but it isn't a game breaker.

Overall I thought the combat was solid, the enemy AI was great, and the story prior to the ending was outstanding.  I loved Mordin singing as he made sure the Genophage cure worked, even at the cost of his own life.  I love Thane stepping in and sacrificing himself, and then praying for my soul on his own death bed.  I loved making peace between the Geth and the Quarians.  I loved watching Thessia fall (that's the kind of sad that's good game play).

Honestly the only thing I hated in the game prior to the ending was Kai-Leng.  I cannot stand putting a player in a fight in a game that they aren't allowed to win no matter what they do.  If you need it for the story, then just give me a cut-scene.  Don't make me fight a fight you won't let me win.

9.8/10 a few minor complaints with dialogue and the journal system was a step backwards.

It was a good game. Not decent, not great - which I've always taken to be a solid 7/10.

There's too many issues to label it great, but it's still pretty good in most other areas. Twenty hours of mostly good content is not a bad way to spend €35, I think.

Some of these issues include: a lot of no-choice conversation, limited choices in conversation, generally outdated texture quality, wonky animations for female Shepard, a useless Journal, lack of new squadmates compared to the wide range of ME2, cameo-appearances by ME2 squadmates that were mostly fluff, no real way to see your War Assets in combat, eaves-drop fetch quests, etc.

10/10 easy without the ending, the game was awesome until the end with no doubt.

The ending was 1/10 - without that rate being rage or hyperbol, it really is the worst ending in gaming history to date.

IF YOU READ THIS MUZYKA, WE LOVED THE GAME - JUST NOT THE ENDING </3 :( This is really important to realise. You should be proud of ME3, but the ending in all honesty is terrible.

9/10

It was the single greatest piece of interactive storytelling I had ever experienced. I laughed, I cried, I screamed with emotions I never new a videogame could inspire in me.  All it needed was a conclusion that followed through with everything that had led up to it....and it would be a perfect score.

And then the ending just flat out DESTROYED any sort of catharsis which could have been achieved, and retroactively negated all of the highpoints in the story for me like mordin's redemption and the peace between the Quarian and the Geth....as well as the romance plot with your character.
