TC...i have voiced my beef about VS becoming a spectre since it became a popular assumtion that it happened during ME2...which proved false. you can do a search on BSN and pull any VS sepctre thread and my name will pop up.

one of the few ways it would have worked.....is the way they actually did it... It was a BS political stunt by Udina!

if they VS had showed up as a spectre in the start...and there was some BS backstory...i would have raged for days on end...but in this matter...BW handled it well!!

Ashley would be easy to manipulate into serving the alliance/council and fighting against Cerberus. Little would she know she was a pawn being used by them.

Also because shes hot and Udina probably wanted to stare at her lots. Get some dirty thoughts for the spank bank.

Here's what I think:

Udina needed someone who would side with him when he tried to stage a coup. Knowing that Shepard would probably show up and that Ashley was already distrusting of Shepard, he picked her to be his puppet. You see how far things got in the end. Shepard either convinces Ashley that Udina is a traitor or ends up killing her. Ashley was even willing to kill Shepard.

Udina's plan might have worked, but he forgot who he was dealing with.

Ashley was just a puppet, but she was too blinded by rage to see it. That's why I dropped her as my LI.

My shep dropped her when she started questioning his loyalty during the mars mission. You never do that as a soldier, it's unprofessional.

What did "I" do to earn it? It's been a long time since I played ME1, but aren't you being considered for the position even before Eden Prime? If so, then the only things I can say for sure is that I was in a gang, and I wasn't able to save ANYONE from a thresher maw (sole survivor).

Ashley on the other hand was a member of my squad for the entirety of ME1, so she did every single thing that I did, including kill Saren. Then she presumably had some adventures in ME2. Totally earned. (Plus she's exactly the sort of person that Cerberus would incorrectly think they could control, and Udina is in Cerberus' pocket.)

another one of my beefs from over a year ago...is if VS showed up and all was okie dokie between shep and them.... I WOULD HAVE MAD AS ALL HELL!!! I believed there was serious need for some frank and mature conversation...and im so glad BW gave us some...cuz things between VS and Shep (especially after their cameo in ME2) needed to be ironed out. I just wish there was more conversation regarding this in ME3....i wonder if there is more if you chose them as a LI in ME1

I thought Garrus turned down the Spectre program way back when, due to his dad. I think each race is responsible for selecting and prompting individual spectres from their species. The trurians seem to have a program all set up so Garrus would have to apply, be accepted, complete and then be confirmed by the council to become a Spectre. I don't think he really cares about this anymore. It sounds like he's getting fairly high up in the military command now and is pretty respected. As for Ashley she died in my first play though and I haven't done the one where she lives yet. Kaiden seemed to earn his, although the timing was convenient and political.

Yeah, that really turned me off to her in ME3. My Shep romanced her in 1 and Miranda in 2, and that whole beginning pretty much decided everything for me.

Not really unprofessional. She hasn't talked to Shepard in six months. These things NEEDED to come out into the open, doubts needed to be expressed, loyalties needed to be questioned. She's not a dumb grunt that blindly follows Shepard wherever he walks. He worked with the worst terrorist organisation in the galaxy, and that needed to be examined. If your Shepard isn't an absolute idiot, he can allay her fears and prove himself. In the military, lack of trust equals death, just as blind trust equals death. A leader needs to prove himself, again and again if necessary.

I think what rubs people the wrong way is that Ashley is very very blunt about it... while Kaidan... atleast sounds like his testing the waters when his asking you the question, he isn't trying to assume anything, he just has those nagging questions... Ashley comes off s thinknig your guilty and wanting you to prove your innocent

Because in my playthrough, she's carrying Shep's baby. I know this is true because Bioware has left it to me to use my imagination to determine how everything ends.

Depending on what you say to Garrus in ME1 he tries to become a specter before ME2, but he didn't like it.

It's not that he couldn't have been one, he didn't want to.

Yeah I guess it was political only. Just wow... it's amazing that someone like her ever became Spectre. That's politics for ya!

Does it really even matter I mean look how it ends. You think Spectre title is going to mean anything?

Well that's why Ash dies in all of my playthroughs. No way is she on the level of Shepard or Garrus, nor deserve it >:{

Kaidan at least, I can see being a Spectre a little easier.

But overall Udina just wanted his puppet.

Kaiden atleast has his command of the 1st Biotic commando unit and of course his longer service record with the alliance and Shepard to work with.

Garrus... Still needed some growing up to do by ME2... especailly after his depacle as ArchAngel
however by ME3

Kaidan and Garrus are easily the two most respectable members to pick for Specter status
-Hence why i love thier pre london talks the most... They talk to you as equals... not guys who need your opinion or presence to justify anything-

Ashley's rise through the ranks has always given a very bad implication given her attitude...

For them not to really look in at Garrus though obviously they were looking for another Human Spectre and not a Turian one. I don't think that they were looking for another spectre to fill a void in the spectre group but for a -Human- spectre for whatever reasons. Maybe to try and make up for kicking Shepard out in the first place when she was so obviously right all along, who knows.

Yup... Also, very unreasonable... the classic "shoot first, think later" soldier.

If you compare Ashley or even Kaidan with the powerful spectres we know; Saren (Turian biotic SOB), Tela Vasir (Asari Vanguard Crazy Bit**) and Shepard (Second deadliest SOB in space)... they are just rubbish.

Their spectre rank was just a ploy.. a rEApers ploy to corrupt the spectre rank just as they did with the N7 rank.

Actually, Kaidan was the commanding officer of the 1st Special Operations Biotic Division. And again, they've both been under Anderson's wing for three years, just like Shepard. BioWare should have included more backstory for both of them.

Her bluntly questioning Shepard was probably due to people requesting that she and Kaidan actually have different personalities (not like Horizon). And it works. Kaidan cautiously questions, Ash jumps in and asks, maintains a healthy sense of paranoia. It works very well with the story.

Yea the writer's try to hint at their further experiences on Mars when Liara remarks that they have "become very resourceful".

But it certainly takes resources to get demolished by a robot you kill in three shots. Too bad it's the only example they give, I have the feeling they were going to include more but problems of presentation prevented that from happening.

Working with Cerebrus was also probably a black mark on Garrus' record.

I was more annoyed at Kaidan/Ash's promotion.

Shepard takes down Saren, Sovereign, the geth and doesn't even recieve a post-moterm promotion.

I think its racist, Garrus had to do a 'program' for spectre, Sheperd and VS both got it given to them for free, the VS didnt even get a ceremony lol
