What has Ashley Williams ever done to get the status of Spectre over Garrus?

Hey, I added to it. Posted Image

Anyway, I have a question regarding Spectre status and posting here means I don't have to make a new thread. In ME2, I can decline Spectre reinstatement. Does that have any effect at all in ME3?

Surviving eden prime with no back up and horizon with no back up was impressive.

Ashley/Kaiden's appointment always smacked of pro-human effort by Udina to me. There were many stronger candidates.

Seriously? Then what the hell was the point of that option in ME2?

It was most likely done to allow the 'player' the chance to role play their character and have the game actually take notice of the choice.
Unfortunately, railroading emotional responses was the norm in ME3 and this left little room for the 'player' to role play outside of the narrow gauge rail system they used.
BW told their story.  And in their Shepards story, he/she was a spectre.

Ingame it's implied that another human spectre is appointed to try and appease humanity while earth is being obliterated.

It's unlikely that the VS actually earned his/her spectre title.

This.

ANd shepard carried her reputation lol...

It was cool in ME2. But in retrospect, that decisions has now been rendered useless because of ME3.

When I got my spectre status in ME, I was thinking how great it was to be the first ever human spectre. My Shepard was a War Hero background, and progressively through the games I proved my worth.

So... now Ashley gets it. HUH? Same Ash who didn't trust Garrus or Wrex because they were aliens? Same Ash who got jumped by the Collectors on Horizon? Same Ash who got owned by a Cerberus cyborg?

Ash? She made it to Spectre status to be a stooge for Udina and paid the price.

Seriously, I hated what they did to her in ME2 and 3. They will have my eternal hate for that. Cerberus this, Cerberus that, Cerberus this, Cerberus that... on and on and on and on. Shut up!!! Why BW? Why? Kaidan didn't do that.

Well, sole survivor Shepard gets Spectre status in a similar way. Shepard survives a thresher maw? He has clearly shown he has the determination to be a spectre! Ashley survives a Geth invasion, collector invasion AND was part of the team that single handedly saved the heart of galactic government? Meh.

That and humans can lower the standard now that they are on the council, and spectres equal status, so naturally Udina would want as many as he could push through.

Being an N7 doesn't count anymore, apparently.

Wait, a Thresher Maw?

I thought heros usually have their deeds exaggerated, not understated.

Ashley survives a Geth invasion,

Thanks to Shepard.

collector invasion

Thanks to Shepard.

A mission to which Ashley contributed little to.

Well, there's lowering standards and there's lowering standards.

Shes busty vs his rocket face? Really I don't know I figure the brass think after denying her upward momentum in the ranks for years they owe her something but I agree she jumped ranks way to much so does Kaiden but she also only survives Eden Prime because she ran into shep and as far as the citadel went she was on my ship so nothing there. Jacob also has about as much experience if not more then her he even saved the council yet he's not a spector? Garrus has loads of experience in the military but then decides the spector evaluation period is a waste of time. Garrus makes better sense to me for a spector then VS does hes more believable then they are for spector ship.

It doesn't help that they aren't even given a spector buddy to make it official they're even skipped on that protocol when VS is up for a promotion it seems any and every protocol is tossed out the window because its them similar to how when shep walks into a court room they stop proceedings and he wins by default. Not realistic, shows pandering, and is bad writing.

And considering the original script called for VS to get a spector buddy they just wrote them out and or it was suppose to be Turain girl and she was repurposed for Omega instead.

Yeah I agree pretty much all the origional arguments listed in "" is concerned everyone on your ship should be up for spector status alot of them survived some big truama but unlike Ash they did it on their own w/o his help Jack, Samura, Tali (before the SB meetup), Jacob, Miranda, ect save grunt who was tank breed.

Everyone in ME takes part in the battle if you pick them other then that they're sitting on you ship so if sitting on ship counts as they get spector points why isn't joker top on that list?

I agree that maybe since Udina is the new counciler he "might have" lowered the standards but why only Ash why doesn't the news say and the humans made 10 spectors this month ground breaking! Or does the council have a one spector per 30years? We don't know I also agree with justa they lowered the standards for human spectors to accpt either VS.

Uh, the reason Ashley (or Kaidan) is made a Spectre is pretty much spelled out in the game - Udina wants a human Spectre as part of his general plotting (never mind how stupid said plotting is), the other Councilors want to look like they care about humanity (without actually doing anything substantive to help Earth), the Bioware writers wanted some "personal drama" in the story. The reason why Ashley/Kaidan gets picked is strictly plot-related (and both basically would rather be on the Normandy anyway).

All that aside, this thread was necroed from almost a year ago.

Let's see.

Ashley needed help against a huge geth invasion, a sudden collector abduction, and a high-tech cyborg.

Garrus needed help because he hid in a dead end with three gangs after him, didn't bother securing the basement, got into a melee with a pair of krogan, and let a gunship flank him.

I'm gonna go with Ash, thanks.

In ME2 Garrus talked about training for Spectre status, but left due to the politicing. And so archangel was born.

With regards to Ash, both she and Kaiden were considered quite skilled soldiers in their own right, and besides the parts they played in stopping Saren in ME1 did good things for the Alliance in the two years before me2.

Absolutely nothing.

She was promoted for... reasons.

Very bad reasons. I construe it to taking credit for Shepard's achievements.

She hasn't earned anything she has.

Bioware probably wanted to make a squadie from ME1 or ME2 a spectre. Besides Liara(who's already the shadow broker), the VS is the only one guaranteed to be alive.

Shepard only got to be a Spectre cause he had a nightmare full of indecipherable images and got evidence that could have been fabricated from a member of the one non Batarian race that no-one trusts that Saren was evil and trying to bring back the Reapers because of reasons.
Goddess, Mass Effect 1 had a ton of leaps of logic
