Hmm... think it's part political and part because she has earned it working for the alliance all those years when Shepard has been away. Like several people here has said, it was quite a bit of politics before Udina got his first human spectre in ME, Shepard.

Have to play a PT in which Ash is saved, wish I knew more about her.

I never really liked ashley after horizon. She was just promoted so udina had someone to use.

Edit: plus too xenophobic to be a decent spectre.

As oppossed to Saren who was openly hostile to humanity .... lol

For the life of me, I just cannot understand how people can be so dense and completely disregard Ashley's reasons for not trusting aliens. She explains what happened to her grandfather in detail. She also explains that she doesn't hate aliens and openly condemns the Terra Firma Party.

It's because of her secret biotic power...she can paralyze any enemy with her poetic rants. That and she has a better pair of breasts.

Sucked Udina's Citadel Tower, most likely.

When I got my spectre status in ME, I was thinking how great it was to be the first ever human spectre. My Shepard was a War Hero background, and progressively through the games I proved my worth.

So... now Ashley gets it. HUH? Same Ash who didn't trust Garrus or Wrex because they were aliens? Same Ash who got jumped by the Collectors on Horizon? Same Ash who got owned by a Cerberus cyborg?

At least Saren seemed elite, and even if people didn't respect him they feared him. Same with Shepard.

Garrus for some reason needed training to be a Spectre, despite being top class in combat and a tactical genius. He sniffed out Saren, and demonstrated his abilities by holding off all of Omega 3's gangs practically by himself, and is very charismatic when leading. When has Ashley ever demonstrated anything close to Garrus's abilities?

Anyway, not a huge deal. It's just I was surprised at how someone who is competent but has never demonstrated any brilliance got to be Spectre over someone like Garrus, who is both brilliant and a good leader. Garrus is the only guy I felt if Shepard had died, he might have been able to take over and stop the Reapers, even though he's too modest to ever admit it. :D

Udinna used his authority as a Council member to hand pick a human that would be his puppet/bodyguard during his coup of the Citadel.  He probably knew in the back of his head that Ashley/Kaidan didn't deserve it.  Even the VS initially doubts their worthiness of being a Spectre before finally accepting.  Garrus' father discouraged him from becoming one and he was too busy helping Shepard in actually fighting the Reapers instead of playing security on the Citadel.

Got a boob job and plastic surgery is all I can come up with. She's really under qualified for the position; but Udina wanted a minion and she got shot for her stupidity lmao.

Eh, I try to give her the benefit of the doubt. ME2 is the game where we see a lot of the original characters growing and developing. Garrus goes from an impressionable follower who's still trying to figure things out to a wisecracking leader with his own team. Tali comes into her own, earns a place among her people, becomes more fiery. Liara undergoes an almost complete transformation.

We don't really see what's been going on with Ashley or how she is changing off screen. She's promoted, but we aren't shown why. She makes a brief appearance on Horizon that does little to demonstrate her leadership growth, since she has no one to command except a town of resentful colonists. Then ME3 rolls around and Ashley says something clever on Mars and I guess we're supposed to take that as a sign that she's become more capable in her time away from us or something. Unfortunately they kind of drop the ball after that and stop demonstrating her abilities.

Williams is a social climber. She sleeps with Shepard to break her family curse and presto! She doesn't know him at all in ME2 despite the fact that he saved her life and she believes him to be a traitor and Cerberus lickspittle. In ME3 she's made Lt. Cmdr. and still thinks Shepard is a Cerberus lackey and ignores Anderson's request and urging for her to go and see Shepard. In this respect, she treats Shepard exactly like the Alliance treated her grand dad after the First Contact War. She translates that friction into gaining Spectre status courtesy of Udina and only goes back to Shepard after pulling a drunk to get her brain pickled enough so that she can stand getting back into bed with him again to climb a few more rungs up the ladder because the universe has moved him into position to be important again.

For the life of me I don't understand why people cannot see this broad for who she is and what her agenda is all about. She is only your friend when it benefits her and she only loves Shepard when she sees that his star is rising. Frankly, I'm surprised that she didn't put a bullet in Shepard's head on the Citadel in order to curry additional favor with Udina. The only reason that she didn't was likely because she figured she would get more mileage out of Shepard.

Williams is a gold digger and doesn't mind using her charms when she figures it is to her advantage to do so. But when she has no more use for you she will kick you to the curb and wipe the mud off her boots on you. That's why she got Spectre status because Udina saw her for what she really is.

Hmm... she is still a Spectre when one plays a FemShep. No romantic connection for her with Shepard in that case.
