I recently installed ME1 again together with Bring down the Sky. Installation of both goes fine but then the problems start.

When I launch the game it is running so slow that it takes about 10 minutes to load the first BioWare splash screen, then it takes another couple minutes to get to the next one... and by then I shut it down through task manager (which also works really slow while the game is struggling to load anything).

I'm running Windows 7 64bit, latest graphics drivers and I haven't had the issue last time I ran the game (I did upgrade my video card to nVidia GeForce GT520 and doubled RAM since then but that's all hardware changes).

Any ideas?

The Geforce GT 520 is far more likely to have been a serious DOWNgrade than any kind of upgrade. It's very, VERY weak sauce!

Hey DalVel,

You might want to try some older graphics drivers instead. Also, are you running any anti-virus software or anything?

Another way to attempt a fix for this is by removing the .bik files for the Bioware and EA splash screens, just to see whether it relates to those files solely or not. You can find those in Mass Effect/BioGame/CookedPC/Movies (Mass_Effect_Logo_Movie.bik, ME_EAsig_720p_v2_raw.bik)

Just move them onto your desktop and try launching the game and see what happens.

From GeForce GT220 it's an UPgrade >.>

And I managed to fix the issue... apparently after restarting my computer... the game works fine now. I have no idea what was bogging down the game (as everything else ran fine)

You can ignore the name, and you can ignore any amount of RAM attached to it beyond 128 MBs.  The important factors determining performance are all weaker by far than the GT 220 was.
