So, a friend and I were discussing Riordan and the ending and we realized that the missing vials of Archdemon blood that he mentions were stolen/vanished from the Warden's vault never reappeared. The writers wouldn't have had him mention them if they didn't intend for them to show up sometime later, so what happened? Were they just written out, or is something going on here?

I smell a DLC.

I assume they just threw that in there so the players wouldn't go "I want to turn Ser Cauthrien into a Grey Warden. Why can't I?"

Well, bit of a spoke in the wheel, they turn Logain into a Grey Warden after the Landsmeet if you choose; as I'd already heard from Riordan on the blood issue I gather it's secured when you take over Denerim from the Logain-Howe regime, before Logain's joining and the trip to Redcliffe.

My first playthrough, I went with the Loghain option and I was actually a little bothered by the blood just turning up like that, with no explanation of where it was found. Obviously, we're supposed to assume that Loghain had it and turned it over to Riordan, or something similar, but it would've been nice to have an explanation.

Pfft, who needs the old blood. It's at least 400 years old and used up. You're about to come into a fresh batch.
