fun facts:
-weapon weight doesnt affect your squadmates power cooldown.
-squadmate has unlimited ammo *duh!*
-squadmates has an above average accuracy compare from enemies (even on Insanity)
-weapon recoil doesnt seem too affect much the the squadmates shooting condition.
-mods that are usless for squadmates : scope, stability damper, spare thermal clip, choke, ultralight materials, and heatsink.

Hail the almighty overpowered Particle Rifle! don't let the low damage fool you! the Particle Rifle's initial DPS (damage per shot) is very low, but goes up dramatically (3-5x) after 50 units of energy has been consumed. There is also the part that your squadmates are almost perfect accurate with this weapon even on moving targets with continous fire and also their AI also ignores smoke grenades (and sometimes even solid obstacles) so they will pinpoint enemies you can't see. The piercing upgrade is also very useful making enemies cover useless and most armored enemies become easy prey. So with the appropriate ammo power, weapon damage passives, and weapon mods this weapon on a squadmate hands will decimate most enemies even on Insanity difficulty.

Cons... there's a finite range after which no damage will occur and it doesn't perform well against enemies with strong shields or barriers (but will be no problem after a lil' bit of help with Overload, Warp, Energy Drain. etc.)

*i highly recommend for all your squadmates who can use an assaut rifle to stick with this weapon and drop their secondary, if you don't have the DLC then might as well stick around with the other assault rifle choices*

Garrus
Particle Rifle : Magazine Upgrade + Piercing Mod /or/ Extended Barrel
Armor Peircing Ammo : 4-Damage / 5-Headshot / 6-Damage /or/ Pierce
Turian Rebel :  4-Weapon Damage / 5-AR Damage / 6-Squad Bonus

Ashley
Particle Rifle : Magazine Upgrade + Piercing Mod /or/ Extended Barrel
Disruptor Ammo : 4-Damage / 5-Headshot / 6-Damage
Alliance Officer : 4-Weapon Damage / 5-Power Damage / 6-AR Damage
Marksman : 4-Firing Rate / 5-Duration / 6-Accuracy & Firing Rate

Vega
Particle Rifle : Magazine Upgrade + Piercing Mod /or/ Extended Barrel
Incendiary Ammo : 4-Damage / 5-Headshot / 6-Explosive Burst
Arms Master : 4-Weapon Damage / 5-Power Damage / 6-Squad Bonus
*the Explosive Burst occurs with a chance of 50% per 1 energy*

Javik
Particle Rifle : Magazine Upgrade + Piercing Mod /or/ Extended Barrel
*no need to get his Vengeful Ancient Rank 5 Weapon Damage at all*

The M-37 Falcon shoots 25mm grenades instead of your average bullets from a rifle class. The grenades have a good AOE (area of effect) blast radius damage and force stunning enemies. This weapon combined with a power ammo works perfectly well with an Incendiary will create an AOE burn effect, Disruptor stun effect, Cryo snap freeze effect, the Armor-Percing 'Armor Effectiveness Negatives' works also with the splash damage, and NO the grenades wont pierce on covers it will bounce and detonate like Frag Grenades. When fully upgraded and with the right mods and bonus passives the M-37 Falcon can be a versitile powerhouse on a squadmates hands (example is it can strip the sheild of a Cerberus Centurion in 2-3 shots and killing them next with 1 shot on Insanity difficulty *fully tested!*), with your squadmates are also accurate with this weapon and doesnt have to worry about it's weakness... reserve ammunition.

Cons... following an update which reduced the weapons fire rate from 125 to 50 (2.5x slower), the effectiveness of it against single hardened targets is drastically reduced. It is highly recommended to equip an alternate weapon to deal with enemies like Atlases, Geth Primes and Banshees.

*best used with Vega and Ashley*

M-37 Falcon : Extended Barrel + Magazine Upgrade /or/ Piercing Mod
*yes the Defense Ignored from the Percing Mod works with the AOE damage*
Incendiary Ammo : 4-Damage / 5-Headshot / 6-Damage
Disruptor Ammo : 4-Damage / 5-Headshot / 6-Damage

Since weight, accuracy, recoil doesn't seem to bother the squadmates effiency with this weapon this is mostly the 3rd or 2nd best choice for assault rifles for your squadmates. The M-76 Revenant excells in performance when its fully upgraded and when in the hands of Ashley because her Marksman power can overcome the the inaccuracy of the weapon and can deplete the whole clip in seconds. Still the M-76 Revenant has a faster rate of fire and does slighty more damage than most other Assault Rifles, this makes it very capable of shredding enemies at close to medium range.

Cons... squadmates are mediocre accurate with this rifle from close-long range!

*best used with Ashley*

M-76 Revenant : Extended Barrel + Piercing Mod
Marksman : 4-Accuracy / 5-Duration / 6-Accuracy & Firing Rate

The N7 Hurricane main strength is its extremely high rate of fire (far higher than any submachine gun) that can deplete a whole clip (even with a Magazine Upgrade) in seconds and has a very high level of damage from its class (higher or on par with M-25 Hornet) which makes this SMG unmatched for close quarters combat. While squadmates are accurate with this weapon they also negates the weapons main weakness... reserve ammunition!

Cons... only available if you have the Collector's Edition, if you don't have it then go with the M-9 Tempest (they are almost the same except for ROF and damage)

*on my gameplay experience, Liara can strip an enemy sheild or barrier with 1 or 2 clips*

Liara
N7 Hurricane : High-Caliber Barrel + Magazine Upgrade
Warp Ammo : 5-Damage / 6-Headshot / 6-Damage /or/ Enhanced Warp
*no need to get her Pure Biotic Rank 5 Weapon Damage at all*

EDI
N7 Hurricane : High-Caliber Barrel + Magazine Upgrade
*no need to get her Unshackled AI Rank 5 Weapon Damage at all*

Tali and Vega are both shotgun surgeon with the M-11 Wraith, when fully upgraded and with the right mods it can be be pared with damage scale with the M-300 Claymore and M-98 Widow. This weapon also has a very quick reload time, especially when contrasted with other shotguns, making the 2 clip size irrelevant. Add it with the Incendiary Ammo Rank 6 Explosive Burst making each pellets have a 50% chance of AOE damage explosion. Comparing from the other shotguns your squadmates are accurate with this weapon on mid-range and doesn't have to worry about reserve ammunition.

Cons... 250k credits, if you can't afford it then go with the Geth Plasma Shotgun!

Tali
M-11 Wraith : High-Caliber Barrel + Shredder Mod
*no need to get her Quarian Machinist Rank 5 Weapon Damage at all*

Vega
M-11 Wraith : High-Caliber Barrel + Shredder Mod
Incendiary Ammo : 4-Damage / 5-Headshot / 6-Explosive Burst
Arms Master : 4-Weapon Damage / 5-Power Damage / 6-Squad Bonus
*the Explosive Burst occurs with a chance of 50% per pellet*

The only time that the Geth Plasma Shotgun becomes overpowered is when its fully charged on which btw your squadmates doesn't do at all but either way this weapon still have a staggering damage scale from its class. When fully upgraded and with the right mods can be pared with the M-300 Claymore and M-98 Widow on damage scale. This weapon also has a quick reload time second or third from M-11 Wraith. This weapon shots have a very basic tracking capability and will sometimes group and curve slightly toward their target, even at long-medium range. Other than else it has a good clip size.

Cons... squadmates can't use the charge feature of the weapon.

Geth Plasma Shotgun : High-Caliber Barrel + Shredder Mod

i find that side-arms and secondary for your squadmates are so useless, but if you still want a good selection choice then go with Carnifex or Paladin for Heavy Pistols, then M-98 Widow or Black Widow or Javelin for Sniper Rifles.

Carnifex : High-Caliber Barrel + Piercing Mod
Paladin : High-Caliber Barrel + Piercing Mod /or/ Magazine Upgrade
M-98 Widow : Extended Barrel + Piercing Mod
Black Widow : Extended Barrel + Piercing Mod
Javelin : Extended Barrel + Piercing Mod

I think the Revenant deserves at least a mention as a decent squadmate assault rifle ...
Piercing & Extended Barrel mods ...(can the squadmates make use of the scope mod?)

Give Garrus Widow and he'll cry tears of joy. And yeah Ashley and Vega with Rev are pretty decent.

Going out with Vega and Ash, both with Revenants was pretty fun sometimes.

Ash's quite good with a sniper build, her talents can really max her out in terms of accuracy and damage with a sniper rifle. Pair her up with Garrus + your own infiltrator and on some of the longer type maps everything is headshotted super fast.

Garrus is the only most appropriate squadmate who can use a sniper rifle, the drawback is... it takes forever for him to shoot and the 1/5 chance he can hit on close quarters with a SR, did i forgot to mention sometimes he misses with a SR even on mid-long range. I equip him with a Widow and Black Widow, and it took me to take out at least 4-5 enemies before he took a shot!

Revenant is THE 2ND BEST AR option for squadmates, give it to Ashley with an Magazine Upgrade with her Marksman all boosted for ROF, she can empty a whole clip (108rounds) in seconds, the fact that recoil and accuracy doesn't affect your squadmates with this gun, but the only thing that bother me is i barely see or notice that they get kills with this gun on harder difficulties, i will update soon my post for people who dont have the DLC.

scope, melee, weight reduction, stability mods are useless for your squadmates

Awesome info - thanks. The particle rifle is truly OP on squadmates - I couldn't believe how much better it was than anything else.

Yeah this is great. I've been meaning to try out the particle rifle on squaddies. Might have to get on that sooner rather than later.

I've found that while the particle rifle is good for focus firing on heavy enemies like the Brutes or Atlas, it really lowers the survivability of the squad members. Facing a few Ravagers, they get outgunned and shot down pretty quick while trying to keep their beams on target.

I'm thinking I'll switch the assault rifle users to the Argus for good damage while keeping them in cover more. Alternatively, the Falcon with an extended clip for some AoE fun, combined with a Scorpion on pistol-users so everything everywhere blows up.

Assault rifle: Particle Rifle. It's a laser gun that's better than any assault rifle.
Pistol: Paladin. They're not as good with a Scorpion, so I went for accuracy.
Sniper rifle: Widow. In honor of Legion and because it's an anti-tank weapon and Garrus wasn't affected by weight.
Shotgun: Geth Shotgun. That thing is murder heated into a plasma state, sealed by kickass in the form of a gun.
SMG: Tempest. The Hurricane was a bit too finnicky for my taste.

Out of curiosity, with SMGs why would you equip a tempest over a hornet? With weight not being a factor I simpy don't see the upside.

@Tumedus
DPS (damage per shot), the damage comparison from a fully upgraded Hurricane to Hornet is not that much a huge gap just a little, while Hurricane or Tempest are fully automatic when Hornet is just a 3round burst, tested this is how the consistency of squadmates with Hornet is like this... 1-3 burst shots while moving to cover, 1 burst shot while on cover, while with a fully auto smg they shot a half or full clip while moving or on cover depends on the ROF (rate of fire), so in terms of DPS... fully auto smg wins!

I prefer the Hurricane over the Hornet/Tempest.

How about the Scorpion for Squad Heavy Pistol?

Thats interesting. When I had tested it myself, the Hornet was the clear winner, but if their usage of it changes based on clip vs. auto that makes sense.

Thanks for the info.

Liara is a berserker with the N7 Hurricane, I've had her charge on ahead empty a ton of bullets onto enemies while I desperately try to cover her. That lady's crazy! Take cover, dang it!

I think I'll switch her over to a pistol so she stops doing that.

Are you sure magazine upgrade effects squadmates? I had the feeling they treat ammo differently.

Yup. Stick incendiary or Cryo on the particle rifle and see the expected results. Can't see why Warp would be any different. I'll try it out with Liara (squad warp ammo) and Prothy later to see what effect it has (particle rifle eats people up by default)

yes magazine upgrade effects squadmates, the thermal clip upgrade doesn't!

@mohammadfairuz
yes power ammo does effects particle rifle, except the rank 5 thermal clip capacity cuz the whole 100round of the weapon is its magazine capacity, even the incendiary rank 6 explosive burst works with the weapon! try it with a fully upgraded cyro ammo... you will be like Mr.Freeze from batman!

Love the break downs.

Another bonus to the Prothean Rifle is that you and your squad now look like you're Ghostbusters! When someone asks if you're a god, you say YES!

Have you played with the Chakram Launcher, btw? I'm not a numbers cruncher, but in my experience equipping AR capable squad mates with Chakram results in enemy decimation.

I'm thinking of using Prothy (Particle Rifle) and James (Chakram) for some missions...should be interesting how quickly everything ends up dead. Not sure if squadmates ever fire more than one chakram at a time though, so may not be overly efficient weapon.

Falcon > Chakram
through my playthrough and experience, squadmates sometimes a hit or miss with Chakram not really fully accurate at all, and the only time Chakram shines is when its fully chraged which i dont see the squadmates do at all, while Falcon... well check my review on Falcon... AOE damage, nuff' said!
