A bitter-sweet ending would be cool too, one that shows that even though you sacrificed it all, your life lives on in the lives you saved by destroying the reapers.
Or a realistic-tragic ending that reveals that the Reapers were unstoppible the whole time, and that there are somethings in life that really are impossible to defeat, so live while you can.
But this ending is not even an ending, this is just some Matrix-Deus Ex bullcrap.

Silliness aside, I truly wanted Shepard to catch a break, just this once. Even if the galaxy was a shadow of its former glory, s/he could have at least had a future with a little bit of brightness in it.

Plus: Give some sugar for ME2!fans. Seriously, sidelining a LI is bad enough (VS in ME2). Killing two LIs for fem!Shep (one dies, the other one moves on) is really mean ...

But.. Happy endings, why do people hate them so much? Why does Bioware hate them so much?

I've always thought that various endings should be available so that those who wanted their Shepards to go out in blaze of glory can do so and those who wanted their Shepards to finally enjoy life after the Reapers would also have that chance.
My perfect ending would have been Shepard flying off with his/her LI (and possibly some of the squad/crew) on the Normandy to continue protecting the galaxy. Of course this ending would have worked better had the Mass Relays not been destroyed.

I do care and I definitely want my fave LI and Shepard having some kind of future. Even if it's not rainbow-happy-end, they should stay together in the end.

Thank you! So very much, My heat has been broken as all my favorite LIs got sh!t on in ME3 (for the record again my favorite LI's are as fallows, Samara, Jack, Kelly, and than a tie between Ash and Liara in last place)
I was a huge fan of Thane, Thane was my Garrus. So the way he was treated P!ssed me off.
I'd also like to mention a few more bad treatments of ME2 LI's Jack can die if you don't go to Grissom Acadamy fast enough.
Kelly Chambers can die in 2 different ways I know about, first is if you don't have her changer her ID and looks Cerberus kills her. Next if you get upset with her for spying on you She commits Suicide.
Also I really want to know if Captain/Commander Bailey lives, the dude had a Son and Daughter on earth I'd kind of like to give him some closure to them if alive or dead, same with his ex-wife he lost track of, but had wanted to say some things to her (Never said if as to what sort of things he wanted to talk with her about, for all we know he was just too far away from earth and they got devorived and he could still love her). I'd kinda been hoping for some more about him since ME2 with his thing about "Thane isn't the only one who screwed up raising a kid".

I say "give ME2!LI" more stuff since they really got sidelined. Thane dies, Jack and Miranda -can- die, Jacob moved on. And out of the "big" romances, the VS got a quite short stick since lack of generic banter. The romances for both are great, it's just lack of content between romance scenes. Check out Garrus and his lines and compare against VS. You know what I mean?
And definitely needed: missions for your LI, regardless if it's ME1, ME2 or ME3 LI. Some special assignment that explores another side of your romance.

It's not just the romanced Sheps who need a happy/hopeful ending...unromanced Sheps need this too....his still young, still has a lot of life to live, find love in fanfic....Shep has sacrificed enough, he deserves a chance to live and be someone beyond his hero status, have his own time and chance to define himself for himself.
That too. Same of fem!Shep of course.
Just show Shepard with his/her (surviving) squadmates and important crewmates in the end. If Shep has a LI, show 'em kissing. Whatever. You know the deal ^^

That would work....in all honesty, I do wonder if all the feelings we are having about our Sheps with their lack of LI development, hopeless ending, etc.... is more to do with us just wanting to know there is a something beyond for our Sheps, we have lovingly built our Sheps over three games, be that male/female/custom/default/paragon/renegade (and all shades in between)/etc...so many of us have grown our Sheps into being something almost real for us, we feel our Sheps journeys, make their decisions as best we can, do the best we can with our Sheps...Shep in a way became more than a game for many of us, we genuinely care about our Sheps and just want our Sheps have that chance to just be....is that about right for you too?CptData wrote...

I can understand an ending with loss, but damnit I want some hope in there. I'd like the option for a happy ending because I feel Shep deserves it.

Bioware made liars of all of us. There there.

I'd like there to be an option for some kind of, if not "happy" ending one where at least Shepherd gets to stop the Reapers and have an option to lay down the gun for another to pick up and carry on with. The man (or woman) has accomplished more in three years than most do in an entire lifetime. He deserves to build that house on Rannoch with Tali (yes I romanced her).

Which is perfectly understandable, I want one too.
Why Bioware seems to be so.... set.. against any semblance of actual happiness, or the option for such, in the endings though, is up for speculation.

The ending kind of reminds me what you'd see in some HS story where the kid decided to write an "unhappy ending" just to be cool. In an attempt to engender debate or discussion they went with the sledgehammer without realizing nuance wins the day not heavy-handed gloom without closure or seeming consistency. Unusual for Bioware to make such a misstep.
DA 2?
lol it just means you fight madwoman or madman first. Choice? It never mattered.

Hah. You know I enjoyed DA2 for what it was. Not as good as DA:O but it had some nice ideas in it. But yeah the ending overall I liked there beause it did provide some idea of what happened to everyone and left it open for Hawke and his GF/BF.
