Couldnt have said it better myself, but unfortunately I'd never get that ending; control ftw.Hyrule_Gal wrote...
I don't want to see my femshep baking dextro pies in a cottage or anything but getting pulled out some rubble by your LI for an epic hug would be enough for me. And ending showing that you both made it is all I want, dialogue isn't even needed.
do you care about your LI's and Shepard's future together? -URGENT-

I expected there to be one purely because there's always been a "happy ending" or "good option" in Bioware games. I guess I just presumed that was Biowares "thing" that they done with all their games lol.
They've never had a happy ending, because they've never had an ending. All of the DA games still have another blight/more darkspawn on the horizon, and until ME3 all the ME games "ended" with the Reapers still being out there. And I don't need to remind you how BG2 and NWN2 ended either. (Though the latter isn't technically Bioware.)

See, this is why I don't like using the term "happy ending" because people presume I'm talking about hearts and flowers. What I meant was usually Bioware give us an option where your character can derive some joy out of life other than just the victory of battle, such as being reunited with their friends or love interest etc. Like in Dragon Age: Origins if you romanced Alistair. Sure there were still Darkspawn out there and yes both your Warden and Alistair will eventually prematurely die due to the joining ritual BUT you knew they would go out there and fight darkspawn together after the credits roll and the game came to it's conclusion.
Anyway my point is foolishly or not I did expect there to be a half decent ending for Shepard.

THe very first installment of Mass Effect ends with SHepard Looking like a Badass Mofo defeating the reapers without losing any of his main character allies (at least not in the last mission). Mass Effect may have a dark tint..but it's a conventional story where the hero wins out...or doesn't, but there's nothing dooming you to a sad ending. You survived a SUICIDE MISSION on ME2...thats about as bleak as it gets and you can easily survive without losing anyone. Why shoudl this game be different:?Xrissie wrote...
Happy endings would ruin the whole atmopshere of the game, tbh. You're in a galactic war to save all organic life, millions are dying and millions more will die... and then you have a bambi's mom moment? No, thanks bro.
This is not a tragic story people...shepard has almost no character flaws...had nothing to do with bringing about the problem he is set to fix etc...he has no signs of a tragic character and it's laughable people are dooming him to a tragic ending.

Thank you! As a theater professor and director, it drives me nuts when people say "Shep's a tragic hero." No, he's not. If you knew the definition of "tragic hero" then you'd know that wasn't true.
Shep is a HERO, not a tragic one. There's tragedy all around him, but he (or she) isn't tragic ... more examples of a little learning being a dangerous thing.

My vesion of a happy ending would be my Shepard and LI reuniting on a devastated battlefield. While there is death and destruction all around, the fact that the two of them lived and are together would instill the sense of hope that ran through the ME universe. They may make it. They may not. One might live and one might die. But I would be very satisfied if the final scene would be of the two starting to clear the rubble...together.
^ This is exactly what I want.
Yes, it's a story about war and all kinds of bad things happen, but I don't believe Shepard has to die, nor did I ever expect them to at any point. I don't personally need something sappy and Disney-esque (but I believe it should be one of a variety of possible endings). I just want to know that there's still hope for them; it's going to be a lot of hard work to clean things up and get back to "normal" but they're in it together and that's all there is to it. Fade to black, the end.

If they want a bleak ending in there then make it so the easiest one to get is the bleak one, but don't make it the only one
