This franchise is begging for an MMO.
I beg to differ, this franchise is begging for sequals and expansions. This franchise is about story driven narrative at its best, and it should stay that way.
Though I haven't completed the game yet, surely the Blight didn't emerge solely in Fereldan ? There are many opportunities for expansion of the story. This game could easily become a trilogy.

Does this mean we can start asking for that awesome Mage robe to be in the game? You know the one... the White haired elven chick on the Launcher splash screen, and the second to last poster in the poster section. That would be a worthy Mage robe!David Gaider wrote...

World of Warcraft came out years ago, and still uses roughly the same client engine. Only minor modifications have been made throughout the expansions. Could we expect to see something like that for DA:O?
What I mean to say is that you already have AddOns like Warden's Keep available to expand on the game, and there are even more on the horizon.
Will we possibly see full content packs on the scale of the original game release, which cover other sections of the map, or is that something that would come with a new game?
I'd love to be able to take my existing character(s) into new lands, with the level cap raised, rather than starting a new character from scratch. I'd like to see my plot flags carry over into expansions, and follow familiar NPCs further through their stories.

From what I can tell, the very northern part of the map would be the equatorial region. There's a dark green belt (The Donarks) that seems to be the Thedasian equivalent of our equatorial rainforests. In fact, it seems like they even have their own little Amazonian river up there as well. Also, I believe the Qunari are from the "far north" (on the map) as well, and as they're very dark skinned, it makes sense they live closer to the equator, where the sun would be stronger.
So, basically, as far as the "whole world" goes, we've only seen maximum half of it, probably around 1/4. IF it is round. No word on that, yet...

Nice map AND now at least we know how much potential content can be released. I just hope it's not bled out to us.

Funny, I looked at it, and thought 'Kal-Sharok's a lot nearer than I imagined'. Assuming the map is to scale, in a straight line, its only twice as far from Orzammar to Kal-Sharok, as Ostagar is to Orzammar. Going the land route, its not all that much further than that. In fact, its only a smidgeon further to Weisshaupt Fortress... Trust me to listen to Alistair. 'Oh we can't go there, its toooo faaaaar'... Git.
So on reflection, the maps not to scale.

I dunno.. Weisshaupt seems a lot further than I imagined. I was picturing it more in Orlais, but maybe the Grey Wardens of Orlais weren't stationed there like I originally thought and were rather gathered at Val Royeaux when preparing to march to Fereldon.
Any who, it is pretty hard to determine how far away things are because we are never really told how long it takes to travel between locations in Fereldon (other than knowing it takes a day by Lake Calenhad to go from Redcliffe to the Circle and it takes over 2 days to go from Redcliffe to Denerim).
This map is very enlightening though, so much of the world to explore! I am pretty excited, this puts a lot of codex things into perspective and will definitely help out the modders. I wonder if there are any Dalish still in the Dales? So many things to wonder about now.
Thanks so much for putting up this hi-res map

I would be really surprised if they did not have something like that in mind for future DLC and expansions.

Hardly. with the competition out there and involment that goes into a MMO DOA ONLINE would suck, I'd much rather see DOA expansions, and DOA 2 .. It a story based games, not a guild based noobs and running around saying im going to pawn you, /sigh so sick of hear DOA MMO coming,,,, it's not because Bioware is smarter then you@!
