Why punish for disconnects?

The benefit of not allowing players to get xp and credit for quitting is to discourage quitting games. But since I am dropping out of maybe over half of the games I am in, or some bug happens like enemy is in a wall or is immortal where game can't continue, I lose a lot of credit and xp. I don't think this is a fair way to discourage people from quitting games. Simply allowing others to join mid-game should solve the issue of people leaving mid-game. Give an option so people can choose to join games mid-game, but not get any of the xp or credit from prior waves.

I fought a silver mission against Geth to wave 10. Only to be disconnected.

I never got to see any of the XP, Credit, or Readiness that I had earned.

I have had my PS3 crash (thanks for the stable game) or been disconnected by EA servers in round 10 or 11 at least 5 times at this point. 1 time on silver and the other 4 on gold. That works out to approximately 310,000 credits or about 5 spectre packs. Since each spectre pack is worth $1.99. I'll be expecting my $10 refund from EA in the mail soon.

Judging by the comments on this thread, bioware should hire any of the people here because apparently we have more sense than the people who implemented no xp and credit from disconnect.

Well people that got a disconnect ususally don't have to restart the game to get reconnected. Thing is that ****ing "disconnect and get nothing" thing makes me ragequit. I don't even know why. the game runs for 10 runds then i lost connection during round 11. Connection to the net was ok all the time just ME§ lost its connection to server

because then people would simply unplug their ethernet cord if they wanted to leave but not be punished

i've often only needed those few more credits (that wave 3 on bronze would easily cover) while i wouldn't leave i'm sure tehre would be loads who would

one sort of solution would be to pool all XP and credits lost due to "disconnects" and give them to the player at the end of the week

Well, I have a simple solution until they fix it, if it DCs me in the final round I simply quit the game altogether until I feel like trying again, I despise that it only DCs me when I've finally found a team I can actually get along with, people who go after teamwork rather than the CoD mentality of being on top of the scoreboard, that's the only time I get DCed, it's like the game doesn't want me to work alongside amicable people...

It would bring the worse behaviour if we kept xp and gold, trust me. As for now, players in random groups got an incentive to stay till the end.

Yeah, it sucks when we are disconnected at wave 11, but I deal with it as I know the alternative would be much much worse.

Another type of solution that I would absolutely love is dividing the leaving player's Experience and Credits among the remaining players.
I mean, it's lost anyway, right?  Might as well give them to somebody.

Lol Gordulan.
Kieran.me you got a point but you punish people that got a bug (it seems to happen on regular base (every 20 minutes) while other games or programs not even got any issues with the connection. So people with that bug don't get progress just to avoid others being ****s.

Oh and they don't even provide ways to fix that bug. didn't find any thread of this with even a mod writing something

yes i forgot about that!

when said person leaves or disconnects ALL their xp is wiped clean from the game which extremely unfair so yes it should be devided equaly and given to everyone OR simply added on at the end
instead of being limited to the 4 character slots allow it to increas and show a greyed out player with a line through (to show the left) but let everyone still get it

Honestly I kind of understand it but then it does not work in practice. The problem is level 5 players trying to stay in a Silver game and then leaving when they die over and over again. Then all the kills I have made are moot. I get the thoery but it does not work in practice. Last night I actually had a solo game in Silver. I only made it to level 5 though.

they should separate things, if you just wuite you should lose all those points but if you get dc from EA or the host leaves and the match get lost you should be able to keep your points.

at least until they fix this freeze, EA server dc they should make your points be added asap to your account, when they fix this problem they could make it like it is today if you leave you loss.

Same here.

What if I lose power and I am only 3 seconds away from being extracted? I get squat, that **** just ain't right.

The game should be able to tell the difference between quitting in the middle and being cut off from it.

We are investigating issues with disconnection, but as been pointed out if players were to keep all progress on disconnect there would be a lot of exploits.

Virginian you are correct there is a way to tell between quitting in the middle and being cut off; however there is no way to tell the difference between being disconnected 'naturally' and pulling the plug

I'd think it would be best to err on the side that doesn't punish legitimate players. Experience awards are not very important. It's the credits that matter most, and credit rewards scale up higher and higher as you continue through waves. I can't forsee any exploits that would make cash faster than just surviving through Wave 10 for the huge credit bonus.

Come to think of it, I really can't see how this could be exploited for more experience rewards either. I just don't see why we aren't awarded full benefits as they come, so that if a disconnect occurs, we aren't penalized for it (because they happen frequently enough, especially during times of the day when a lot of people are playing).

Why are people punished if playing with friends when they disconnect /crash on round 9 for example and then reconnect again straight away, they lose all XP and credits gained up until that point. Can you not implement a system that you give people 5 minutes to reconnect to the game before progress is wiped?

It sounds like if they just managed to fix the drop issue, it would be fine. That means the only way to leave would be actually quitting.

There is a reason for what they are doing believe it or not. Say your having the match of your life but the host is having a bad game and does not want to waste any more time. The host leaves with the credits they have collected and start a new game. Your amazing match is lost. I think most of the players who I have met play with honor but of course some do not. Often the ones have their mics on and don't seem to have a vocab outside of swear words.
