I felt like the entire Cortez story was wedged into already great content. Why?

I really hate it when people start spreading these rumors, like in DA2 where people just took it as fact that nice dialog forced you into bed with Anders.

I disliked how he kept mentioning his "husband". Like the devs just HAD to take every opportunity to show that they were 'tolerant' by having a ****** character.

Yeah he had a husband who he loved, who died horribly.
I wonder if it had been a wife, would you be saying the same.

I thought it was good they actually gave our shuttle pilot a identity. In Mass Effect 2 I had no idea who was driving the thing.

No I wouldn't, for obvious reasons.

The same argument could be used for all characters who are not directly central to the plot.

Personally I quite liked him. Having a shuttle pilot you can talk to makes much more sense than bringing a thief on a suicidal assault on a Reaper controlled armies base.

Honestly, I liked his presence. The typical Bioware format has always been that your squad-mates are important, ignore everyone else. I like seeing characters like Cortez, Dr. Chakwas, and Joker fleshed out.

I thought he was handled really well in that regard. Cortez never flaunts his sexuality as his defineing trait, and because of that he makes a great respectable character. The game downplays his sexuality and as a gay person myself I thought that was really awesome.

I really like Cortez and his story arc.

Agreed. Made me really happy to see that he was just a guy who also happened to be gay. The way they approached gay marriage was really cool to me. No one thought it was even a big deal, he had a husband just like everyone else who had a spouse. I also liked vega's approach to cortez being gay. Just like, who cares whatever it isn't even a thing that has any effect on their friendship.

Mind you they did that in Doctor Who too (casual mentions of gay marriage) and were accused of having a "gay agenda" :?

I'm not really sure what people mean when they say things like that.  What will this agenda do? Does it hurt people? I just don't understand how gay people hurt anyone.

This pretty much.

Otherwise, I was okay with it.  Plus for some reason Bioware likes to write its homosexual characters as easy sex-zealots.  Like Zevran in Dragon Age.

Paragon them ONCE and they're ready to jump your bones.

I thought Traynor was handled a little more subtly, personally.

Cortez and Vega were one of the highlights for me. Particularly their conversations in the armory.

I honestly had a hard time NOT going all the way with Cortez. He was way more charming than he had any right to be.

I really liked Steve. My only concern was choosing a Paragon interrupt would cause things to "pull a DA2" and suddenly being supportive transforms into me and Steve making out.

Nah. You don't even get to kiss Steve until you 1) tell him you're waiting for the right man, 2) agree to dance with him right after telling him you want a man, and 3) tell him you want to be more than friends while dancing.  THEN you get to kiss him.

So if anyone kisses Steve, they wanted it.  There is a very clear, three-dialogue choice barrier between ManShep and Steve's affection.

They shoved a lot of "gay" content into this game as well. Why must I be a renegade if i'm not gay btw? Lol.

Oh, okay.  I was looking for a more middle-of-the-road response.  Some of the dialog choices were a little confusing (though the actual dialog turned out okay).

Like when Cortez is depressed about losing his husband.  And your choices are basically: (A) Flirt with him or (B)  Tell him to deal with it.  Would've been niced to sympathize with him without trying to romanticize him as well.

Yeah but, the females in the game are handled like sex zealots too. And he was mentioning a dead loved one, not shoving it in our faces just to show he's homosexual.

And being that I'm a gay man I really didn't notice Traynor, I wasn't even aware she was a lesbian.

My point was would you consider it in your face?
Or would you accept that his wife was a part of his character and backstory?

Because that's all it is. His husband serves as a reminder of the people who were killed by the Collectors and the people affected by that.

I look forward to a time when having a black/asian/gay/lesbian character means having a black/asian/gay/lesbian character and not a "token".

Seriously, you think it's forced, it show you have more issues than they do. They can't win either way at the moment. They don't include the options they are homophobes, they include them and they are "forced".

And him saying "wife" instead of "Husband" probably wouldn't have felt forced to you?

This is pretty much the only reason I didn't take him as my LI. I just liked Kaiden more, but yeah I thought he was a good addition.
