I felt like the entire Cortez story was wedged into already great content. Why?

None of the homosexual relationships in these games are ever anywhere near forced. You always have to pick really obvious dialogue.

Even with Anders, you have to choose all diplomatic choices for him to say anything in the first place, and then you had the option to tell him "no thanks, bro." which results in a few rivalry points for obvious reasons. Just because a character is bisexual/gay doesn't mean if they flirt first it is forced. If you don't want the rivalry points, you can even say the nice option and just choose not to go any further with anything.

With Cortez, he never even really makes a move at all. You have to click through more than one really obvious option.

So when people talk about how homosexal relationships are forced, or "pulling a DA 2", I'm just like... huh? :P

I was kinda sad that Cortez's character was so much more detailed than Traynor. Even so, they were both nice, but neither of them really impressive.

I liked him in that he was a guy that happened to be gay, not someone who based their entire persona around their sexuality like most portrayals of gay characters in video games.

I always wondered why they never showed who flew you down to all those missions in the shuttle. He was a nice addition. It's things like that that make me feel closer to the whole team, and not just the combat squaddies.

It's a very minor detail but I'm so glad they did give us a chance to become friends with the guy who piolts the shuttle that takes Shepard to missions. I also loved Cortez' friendship with Vega ( yeah I know it's popular to bash Vega on this board but I think h ewas okay ), some of the banter between the two was very good and it made both charcters seem more likeable.

I liked his inclusion. He put a human face on the war, what civilians were going through.

But when he is shown watching that really dramatic vid of his last conversation with his husband, did anyone else think initially that he was watching a soap opera? or was that just me?

Just you buddy, sorry. :P

I enjoyed Cortez, a well written and very balanced character. He does bang on a bit about his husband but that's because the poor son of a gun is still in the greiving process. Folks complaining about it obviously don't understand the emotional investment in the greiving process, and frankly I hope a lot of you don't experience it for a very long time.

Being able to help Cortez through his greiving process actually felt really good and seeing him finally let go of his demons, finally listening to his husbands advice and not using his memory as a rock was a genuinely touching moment.

It was very obvious they loved each other very much and that is what made Cortez's story so brilliant and so heart wrenching. Steve blamed himself for his husband's death because the last thing his husband did was call him and not for backup, or help but to send his loved one a last message.

"Gay agenda" or not, that's a pretty powerful story of love right there.

And that's why I liked Cortez. He was, to put no better word to it, an utterly human character.

I actually thought I was a soap opera, too. Given that I had more or less ignored Cortez and heard it over and over and over again as I tinkered with weapons.

I liked Cortez's inclusion, it went a great distance in humanizing the game. Honestly the fact that he was gay is completely irrelevant. I wonder whether or not people would be fussing over this if he had been mourning his wife instead.

Steve was a friend of mine, I helped him through his struggles and said I kept my eye on the ladies.

And damn it he survived that crash on Earth and made me wish Steve would've been around to fly me places in ME2.

He added to my experience.

I am gay, and fanservice is good for business. Fans wanted gay, they put in gay. It's the same exact reason why you could suddenly romance Garrus and Tali in the second game when you couldn't in the first. Now if they had just put the same logic into the endings...

Cortez was cool. And I'm glad his character arc wasn't cut off from a Femshep player.

Other then a having a male on male option, I think he mainly serves as someone James can be talking to when you come down to the shuttle bay, The same reason EDI is next joker, Garrus moves around the ship.

I liked his characters but I had the same thought about Steve as I did about trainor and James, why the hell are these new characters getting more talk/face time than all the old ones I like a a lot?

I mean jack is very different and you do not get much more than one convo with her. Tali has deserved a face for years; they redid every other character but tali gets a single ps pic. Liara's only got a couple convos after some specific contexts, otherwise she just talks to her robot. Jacob has only one convo.

I found Cortez to be a whiny bish.

The only reason why I talked to him after the first conversation was just incase there was any character missions like in previous Bioware games.

It was 6 months since his butt buddy died.  He shouldn't have been so mopey at that point.

Why would you create a thread about Cortez and not about another peripheral character, such as Diana Allers. She was completely useless, but nobody complains because she isn't a gay man.
