I am wondering the same thing. What holds me back are the clunky combat system and this image of the franchise trying too hard to be mature but ending up being the opposite.

But it could be just my ignorance.

it's not ignorance. considering how I loved the first the witcher, the 2nd one kinda disppointed me (though it's not a dissappointment in DA2's level). They tried very hard to make the theme very mature and complex (even sacrificed Geralt's distinct neutral allignment ), but as a result, it's still not as deep as the first game.

Where is the difference between the normal version and the enhanced?

The enhanced version of the first Witcher corrected the horrible voice acting. What is this enhanced version doing for an already great game?

But wait... if I have TW2 I'll get it for free, right? I like those Poles. They understand.

- two new quests in Act 3, 4 hours I believe
- Cinematic intro
- outro cutscenes depending on choices
- new animation in the game
And Im probably missing stuff

And I disagree with the opinion that TW1 is deeper than the second.
It might be deeper when it came to Geralt discovering his identity, but in terms of setting, plot and overall story, TW2 has the first one beat desicively imo.

My GotY 2011.. EE might even be my GotY 2012! =)

TW2 Enhanced Edition

Enhanced graphics
Enhanced controls
Enhanced camera system
More detailed tutorial
More complex leveling system
4 hours of new content
New characters
New Locations
New Quests
Almost 40 minutes of new cinematics
Changes done based on fan feedback from the original PC players
Keeping it a niche game at the expense of alienating casual and the majority of console players
All built on an in house engine.

All this completely free for TW2 PC owners and it is release features of the X-box version. (plus all the DLCs and game expanding patches released so far).

What themes take place in the story? Are the main enemy supernatural or an actual Human enemy? Is it an end of the world scenario?

Think of Dragon Age 2, politics is a big thing in DA2.

The main enemies are well people there is another enemy/group but it doesn't get as much screen time in Witcher 2 as it did in the first but it's talked about a few times called "The Wild Hunt" and we mostly just learn about it and it's origin to an extent. Like I said Geralt may kill monsters but it's the people of who are the true monsters.

Lol the politics in DA2 are nothing compared to the politics of Witcher 2. If you want a really great, well written and long answer I recommend reading KnightofPhoenix's blog posts here.

Politics in TW2 are developed much, much better than in DA2, even though they also deal with mages to an extent.  Quite realistic and nuanced.

Enemies are both supernatural and human.  You have bandits, opposition soldiers, etc., but witchers are monster fighters primarily so there are wraiths, insectoids, zombie type creatures, etc.

The story is about a brewing war between various kingdoms, and how in the midst of this, kings start being assassinated.  This trailer gives a flavor, in addition to being kickass on its own merits.

The themes of the series as a whole (meaning the books, not just the games), I think it's similar to Frankenstein in that you have a world that is modernizing and looking towards science to take the place of the old world of magic and monsters, but what is emerging is that it's really humans who are the greatest monsters through their cruelty, greed, and prejudice.  It has a late medieval feel, with some Eastern European folklore in the mix.

First, lol at the last sentence.

TW2's plot is almost entirely political. No supernatural enemies other than the monsters who are not important to the plot. And it's politics done right (hence the lol at the DA2 comparison, no offense. DA2's handling of politics is atrociously bad). It's complex, intricate and done in a very mature and realistic way.

And thanks Ringo (skelter?) for linking my blog posts.

This trailer here gives you a fair idea of what kind of story TW2 has.

Wait did someone say politics are a big thing in DA2? I laughed so hard. On everything else pretty much what Knight stated.

That said, they've improved it considerably since release. It's still twitchy, but you won't spend the first ten minutes dying over and over again because you haven't figured out how to time your attacks and blocks.

Well, I guess I can speak for myself when I say I'm glad I got to experience the Witcher 2 in all it's unrefined glory when it first came out..

I think I died at least 15 times in the prologue, and about 10 times trying to kill the Kayran.  Till I played the Witcher 2, it had been a long time since a game has made me utter such a long list of profanities Image IPB

That in and of itself was worth the price of admission..

Of course the combat is now much more refined after a few patches, and will be even better once the enhanced edition patch comes out.....which is all good, because console players are less likely to be as forgiving since this is CDPR's first venture on consoles.

The Witcher 2 was a sad story for me.

I was a huge fan of the first one, and intended to buy TW2 immediately. But I didnt and then I saw it at a friend and the beginning seemed pretty sh!tty somehow.

Then I wanted to replay the first but somehow it was bugged on my new PC so I couldnt, and without a chance to import my Geralt I never played TW2 in the end......

This game has intrigued the hell out of me. I really love RPG's and this seems like a great game to add to my collection.

It's too bad I am a mac user and can not play the first one.

This game is definitely on my buy list though, can't wait to experience this game.

Sounds like the difficulty I want to play on(and I normally stick to easier/normal difficulties).

It's friggin' hard without the Dark Gear, you need a lot of savescumming and time invested in the minigames to earn the cash needed to craft it if you don't want to be punished for a while (especially with no knowledge of the fighting system beforehand).

Get to the first town, rob the armwrestlers blind (I don't know how hard it will be on a controller, pretty easy on PC if you are used to playing games with really high mouse sensitivity), craft the gear, enjoy not seeing anything in caves :wizard:

Alright, alright. Easier difficulty first.

If it has any replayability, I'll go Dark.

The Witcher 2 is amazing.

Some people complain about the ending (the game seems to end out of the blue) but its nowhere near the ME3 disappointment, and it worked for me (I love TW2 ending).

The real issue with the game is that its too short. The third act is VERY short, compared to act 1 and act 2.

Oh, and on 360 there's a 100 point achievement to beat the game on Dark Mode.

Well, I MIGHT go for that.

That's where the new content is being placed, I believe.

The game is shorter than TW1, but it is also at least two games in one because of the branching stories.

Yea the new content is in Act 3 and it seemingly will tie up some loose ends.

Plus, we get to see Baron Kimbolt, who looks like a badass

Whats got the best story? Mass Effect 3 or Witcher 2?

I am really curious about Witcher 2 and i have pre-ordered it.

Whats the main threat in Witcher 2? A supernatural or demon force?

Mass Effect 3? LOL. Just read the wiki or dozens of reviews. TW2 trumps ME in the narrative dept. very easily.

You don't compare a space opera with galactic war as plot to a dark fantasy with kingdom politics in focus.

Mass Effect is a space opera and Witcher 2 is not. Also like I said the main "threat" is not supernatural at all.

Comparing DA2 to TW2 is one thing, but ME3 really shouldn't be compared to TW2.

I enjoy playing both. If you are asking which game you should buy then I would go with TW2, not because of in-game quality or anything like but rather that the company you brought the product from won't treat you likw a cash cow ready to be milked, and they will offer REAL patch support.
