So everybody thinks my Dalish elf is a city elf.

Pretty much the topic title.  All NPCs in the game are giving dialog as if I were a city elf, but I'm dalish.

The game has forgotton my origin.  It says Dalish on my character sheet, but when all the NPCs ask my about the alienage, or the dalish still call me an outsider and refer to me as a city elf, my character just rolls with it and talks about her life in the alienage.

I just sat through this elf telling the story of the dales that my character told during the origin.

I'm saying it's a bug, not commenting on the inconciderate nature of shems.

Hell, at one point I even have the dialog option of 'I'm no Dalish elf, or can't you tell?'.  At this point I've played too much to start over or try to fix it, but it's fairly annoying.

I think the Dalish would know.  And even if they didn't, I'd think my character would correct them.  I can understand various NPCs not knowing, but when Leliana asks about my life in the alienage I don't think it makes much sense for me to answer about it when I'm from a forest.

A Dalish elf controlled by the player was born with a disease called fish face, it only occurs in one out of every single elf in Ferelden, very hard to mistake.

Only the elves in the Brecilian Outskirts (different clan but Dalish) should recognize you right off. Humans (Leliana) and dwarves most likely won't know the difference; to them you're a knife-ear, doesn't matter where you came from. At least your party members try to be polite, but you'll have to educate them on the matter.

That's just the way it is in Ferelden (according to lore).

I guess I didn't know there was a dalish elf origin. As a mage, I don't get a choice :/

You're really, really not getting this.

Ok, I'll edit the first post to make this clear.

Other Dalish elves won't know you are Dalish unless they are from the same clan.

I haven't noticed or read anywhere that elves can 'tell' where other elves came from. It would be very important to the lore if I do say so myself and a very complicated skill... knowing where someone has been and when just from looking at them.

I'm not insulting you, I do see your point as I have came across some minor exploits myself... I would make it so that the main character's Dalish counterparts makes a stand in who he or she is... Although, being Dalish does have it's flaws, avoiding mostly everyone isn't really what I would say 'everyone' would do as most NPC Dalish do. Your character is unique, I understand this but, in my mind the game tries to focus more on the NPCs backgrounds than your own, this we must live with... although I say this because I am an elf mage... not much background to go on... I don't have much say on being Dalish :P I really would love to be a Dalish mage. (In my mind I am)

You've missed the point and you're wrong.

#1: It's not only that NPCs don't know, it's that my character gets dialog options about the alienage, and asked to be told about the dales etc. etc. etc.  I'm not talking about me not feeling like a special flower.  The game is broken.

#2: Dalish would know Daelish.  Their face tatoos are different.  The Dalish tatoos represent their gods.

You'd need a "google maps" tatoo on Your forehead to tell other elves that You're a dalish forest elf ;p , just BEND those party members to Your powerful Will and they will understand :)

I think it would be important for your main character as a Dalish should be 'allowed' a dialog to exchange 'lore' with other elves.

Dalish were brought up to do that, so why don't we? :(

I have NO idea what everyone is talking about when it comes to the Dalish. I played as a Dalish elf on my first playthrough, and the Dalish elves in the Brecilian forest recognized me as one of their own. They regarded my party with a lot of trust, and treated me very politely.

Aside from that, I found many NPCs treated me no differently than they would treat an elven slave, being naive humans and all. My party members recognized me as being specifically Dalish, however.

So to answer the OPs question...it's a bug, I think?

Fair enough, I don't know much about Dalish... wish I did (probably will with my next character) It's fair to say that I didn't miss the point though... I agreed that you should have more of a 'say' on who you are.

I wouldn't say it was a bug. It would be a bug if they implimented it and it didn't react... although who's to say that isn't the case...

Some of the people here don't see to realize he's saying the game is giving him City Elf background and dialogue options when he played through the Dalish Elf Origin. It's not hard to understand, it's a game bug. As another user stated they were given Dalish elf dialogue options and the Dalish elves in the main campaign recognized him/her as a Dalish.

My next playthrough will be a Dalish elf warrior so I'll let you know how it goes and see if it's truly a bug or not.

Some people also don't seem to realise that there might not even be a 'Dalish Elf background and dialogue' I'm assuming we're trying to come to terms with a 'vote' to see if anyone actually get's someone turning around and saying "Omfg Dalish elf" instead of "Enchantment?"

It may be a game bug where there should be people noticing but I wouldn't put my bets on it... yeah other Dalish will realise and that's probably about it... I'm guessing you'll get 5% of your dialog usage from your Dalish background... other than that you're stuck with being a false Alienage elf...

I 'HOPE' it's a bug I really do, I'm not saying I am right I just wouldn't set my mind on something being a 'bug' that happens constantly, bugs aren't that linear.

Dude.  Seriously.  You neeed to just go murder your elementary teachers, they failed you.  My character would not talk about life in the alienage or not know the story of the dales, or say 'I'm not dalish'.  It.  Is.  A. Bug.

Relax. He's probably just a troll or someone running a pirated copy of the game, possibly both. If he wants to believe that Bioware really was so lazy they just said "Hey guys, let's put in a City Elf and Dalish Elf background but let's just make every single background/dialogue option for them EXACTLY the same!".

Not to mention, he's completely ignoring this users statement:
