Besides facial tattoos, there is no way for another clan of Dalish elves to know who you are, Unless your clan had met them before.

Because of course there will be absolutely no physical or cultural or linguistic signifiers to differentiate the two groups? People can always spot a tourist from a mile away, wherever they are.

I have NO idea what everyone is talking about when it comes to the Dalish. I played as a Dalish elf on my first playthrough, and the Dalish elves in the Brecilian forest recognized me as one of their own. They regarded my party with a lot of trust, and treated me very politely.

Aside from that, I found many NPCs treated me no differently than they would treat an elven slave, being naive humans and all. My party members recognized me as being specifically Dalish, however.

So to answer the OPs question...it's a bug, I think?

same.

and as for the the 3rd post as "owned" , what a bellend comment in response to a previous post that, from my experience of playing a dalish elf, is absolute nonsense.

if you don't know the answer, god sake, don't put  "owned"!  just don't put anything.

3rd comment has been reported as spam.

I do hope this is a bug (I only read the first page).

But I believe I understand the OP's concerns. If you are a Dalish elf you should have responses befitting such as opposed to responses the convey you are a city elf raised in an alienage. I cannot imagine why you would be denied those responses intentionally, so hopefully by responding to this I'll bump the thread up and get the attention of the devs so this can be addressed and/or fixed.

Yes, as others have stated, it's fairly obvious if you've played the Dalish Origin that it's a bug. This shouldn't happen. The game repeatedly recognizes my character as Dalish, never once have I been mistaken for a city boy.
Edit: I do think it's likely this is due to a mod though, has this happened to anyone who doesn't have any mods installed?

No non-Bioware content installed, and a certain bard asked about life in the alienage. Come to think of it, Morrigan asked me about my mother, too. In both cases I had no chance to mention my years apart from my family, locked away in the Tower. Something seems wrong about that.

Mage origin assumes you are a city elf.

-MINOR SPOILERS- 360 version

The only time I ever ran into this problem was when Leliana asked my mage about the alienage hardships and these were (roughly) the options I could reply with:

1) It was a little tough.

2) I had my family so we were happy.

3) What do you think?

I had NO option to say "I've got no idea" and that bothered the hell out of me. Because previously, talking to an elf in the Circle of Magi tower, I told him that "I don't remember where I came from" to where he replies "They must have taken you when you were really young". The tower should be all I know and that should be a dialog option.

well somehow dwarf commoners seem to know a lot about the surface world for someone without acces to a library that possibly cant even read and has never been to the surface. Would have been nice if they at least showed the arrival at the surface through a cutscene, since it would be a rather special and important moment in the character's life.

I've completed the game once with a Dalish and once with an elven mage, both times no problems - everyone recognized my characters for what they were. Now I've started a City Elf - and, guess what? Everyone starting with King Cailan keep telling me that my character is a human from Redcliffe ! And on the quest for the Urn when The Gauntlet gives a vision of character's past, I see some shemlen geezer claiming to be my character's father.  And when I return to Alienage before the Landsmeet, Shianni and others my character knew from her origin simply do not recognize her. They say something along "You are not from this parts, I see..." Now, that is weird.
I have some mods installed, but none of them alter races/origins/storyline, and all of those mods were present in my previous games as well. Weird.../../../images/forum/emoticons/blushing.png
