Not a myth. I speak for myself and no one else speaks for me.

Would like an ending that doesn't end in failure.

Destroy billions upon billions of lifeforms just so a few billion can live? Unacceptable to my Shepard who's made tough choices, but never succumb to failure. Did what was necessary to save majority, not minority. Would have found another way, fought Star Child if needed to make him see he was wrong and his entire philosophy was backwards and a lie he told himself.

I don't care if my Shepard dies, he knew the risks. I do care about the Mass Relays exploding and making my friends and allies sacrifices pointless in the end.

I'll hold the line, till BioWare delivers a better happier ending where success is an option.

Exactly. Hell, if they can make the current ending make sense, I would be more than happy..

why can't have a ending that makes sense and is happy as well, when did it become a bad thing to be happy?

I also want at least an option for a happy ending.

I don't know about others but I want the ending to be happy. Doesn't have to be all puppies & rainbows happy, but it should be happy enough that people aren't stranded on a planet where they will never see their friends and family ever again.

Replaying all I can think of when they talk about their family is that they are never going to see them again.

It needs to be an option, just like bittersweet and epic fail endings should be options. I play Bioware games for options.

I'm fine if the crew of the Normandy gets stranded but at least in a happy ending they will get rescued eventually they aren't cut off from everyone they know forever. This ending should have Shepard be the first person to step off the ship and the LI runs up Shep and tackles him/her to the ground.

Well, I think the 'best option still needs to be bittersweet.  Of course, I don't think what we currently have qualifies as bittersweet at all.  It's missing the second half of that formula.  Seriously, the only thing worse than the endings as they currently stand would be a complete Reaper victory where the cycle continues.  I don't consider one step above abject failure to be 'bittersweet'.

I think something like this could work for a 'best' ending:
-Shepard lives and is reunited w/ crew & LI
-Relays intact
-Earth is fubar
-galactic civilization is in ruins
-billions are dead

An ending where Shepard lives doesn't have to be all sunshine and roses.  The galaxy is still seriously messed up.
One thing I think could really add to the 'bittersweet' part is if they had a flashback to everyone you've lost through all three games.

I want a happy ending. Which makes sense. The two are not mutually exclusive.

Doesn't mean that I need rainbow farting unicorns, but at least an ending where the main characters survive and get on with the task of rebuilding the galaxy from an attempted genocide. That's bittersweet enough for me.

It's not really a myth. A lot of us DO want a happier ending option. Those who think that somehow "art" must be angsty and that we're a bunch of sappy whiners for wanting it can go jump in a lake for all I care.

Same here. Or, at least, I used to. I'ms till holding out hope that whatever they announce in April ends with a cutscene like the one on the Citadel after you kill Sovreign/Saren.

I think everyone wants an ending where Shep doesn't destroy the galaxy.... ****ing things up more than the antagonists is pretty bleak.

Because art is angsty, I guess.  And it's artistic to make three versions of the same thing and call it good.

What I want is the huge variety of endings that has been promised, ranging from horribly bleak to happy, depending on how you played the game and whether you managed to rally all the allies you can get and could muster all the war assets. If I do everything "right", then yeah, I want the choice to have a happy ending. No wait, I want real choice back in the ending, period.

I want happy, sad and sacrifice endings. So far I only got sad and sacrifiice. If someone want's sad and death endings they already have them, they only have to fill the holes in them.

But I don't like unnecesary drama in a sci-fi action game, I want the option for an epic win among the whole darkness, death and hopelessness. I want to say good bye to Shepard with the melancoly of not having more good times, not depressed because he's screwed no matter what and I can't do anything about it.

For example, I'd like an ending like ME1, that makes you think Shepard's dead and shows the face of your LI and the other squadmate sad because of it, and suddenly shepard's figure appears limping and the LI runs to him. Credits. It's easy to make many different not depressing options.

PS: I did cry at the end of ME1 when I saw the sad faces of the sqaddies, and
then saw Shepard come out of the rubble alive and smiling. I didn't feel
anything but helplessness (because it was all pointless, since Shepard
and his crew are doomed since ME1) with the ones in ME3. Let alone sadness.

I don't need a happy ending. I would be fine with varied sad endings that make sense and have closure.

It's not a myth. I want a happy ending. I want a good ending above all else. I want choice. I don't want the game mechanics that made the series a success all the way up to the ending of Mass Effect 3 to miraculously change at the end of the game. I don't wanna be forced into picking a crap ending. All three are 95% the same. BAH! You reawakened the angst. Bad OP...no doughnut.

I just want choices. I want a happy ending, I always want the ability to completely fail.

The current ending is so close to failure, its not worth it.

As the endings stand I have absolutely no desire to play any ME again, buy the comics, books, toys, etc.

As the endings stand they ruined the ME franchise for me.

I should not feel any of that after putting god knows how many hours & money into all 3 games, the books, the comics, and Cerberus edition Normandy replica.

I should feel good about the ending of Shepard's story, not disappointment, not disbelief, or anything like that.

Also I should feel that all the money I put into it should have payed off not that I gambled everything and lost it all.

I certainly don't mind a bitter sweet ending as long as i get to choose the aspects that are bitter and those that are sweet that suit my Shep. Currently we have a railroaded ending that leads to relay destruction and normandy stranding no matter what. Even Shep living is relegated to a easter egg only available if you play MP.

Well I think it's pretty safe to assume that it isn't in fact a myth. I too am one that would like the option for a happy ending. I think that the general consensus is that there should be multiple endings with different outcomes depending on choices made and paths taken.

I'm new here. Is there a thread or a website which states what the retakers specifically want for an ending? It doesn't have to be a manifesto or anything, but is there a consensus or at least majority of what exactly the demands are?
