I hate to say I told you so...

As there was a growing "we are gay and we want gay shepard!!" campaign since ME1, i consistently said the exact same thing.

Which was while I have nothing against gay people, shoehorning in gay relationships to a series that is already established, is just going to take time and energy away from characters we love.

So what do we get?  Playing chess with some girl who just got shoehorned into the game.  How many more of you (gay people included) would prefer to see Shepard playing Quarian chess with Tali?  Wait, is that 99% of the playerbase with their hands up?

Same, drinks with "Steve".  How many more of you would prefer to see Shepard propping up the bar with Garrus?  Is that even more of you?

This was a waste of time, put in to appease a small minority of whining fans.  As such we got LESS Ashley.  We got LESS jacob.  We got LESS miranda.

Sorry, but it's true.  "Steve" probably got more screen time than almost anybody, to appease the people with their "gays in space" banners, and thats a shame.  I think the Jacob and Thane fans would have rather the programming time spent on them.

One question:
Why aren't you making a complaint thread about the addition of Vega? Not only did he take up valuable time from the other more "worthy" characters you list here, but he also nabbed one of the party slots too. Surely that's much more of a crime than merely taking up space in the armoury?

And sorry but more screentime than anyone? Half the bleeding time i couldnt even see the guy in the armoury, just his disembodied voice sharing jests with Vega. And he never once joined my party for a mission.

While I'm not a fan of Treynor, personally, but Cortez was one of the best characters in ME3.
I also think having a gay relationship option in does not hurt anyone.
If you're as I am, and don't want to see a male gay romance scene, you tell him in Purgatory, that you like to watch the dancefloor with the lady-dancers.

I prefer minor but well developed characters to retconning existing characters. (Kaiden anyone?)

I actually always assumed him and Ash were Bi. They had these lines of dialogue in ME1 that felt like they were flirting, regardless of your gender. But, then for some reason Ash isn't Bi in ME3, but Kaiden is. Which is like "Double standard much?"

They were written as both being BI in 1 iirc.

There is a switch you could change in the editor that unlocked unique dialogue for romance scenes in sheps cabin for both of them regardless of sex.

They simply turned it off in the first game.

I bet you wouldn't have said that if they were both straight.

Sure I would.  They were both basic rubbish characters only put there to appease gay "fans".

I would replace Traynor time with Kasumi time and Steve time with.. well anybody.

This is simply not true.  A lot of people liked both characters, including me and at least half the people who have responded to this thread.

Sam and Steve were both great for me, loved them both. I'm sure I've got Sheps who would have partnered with them If I were planning on replaying the game.

BTW, on topic, the OP sounds like a complete homophobe.

"If they didn't waste dev time on those queer-boys I might have gotten to wax Miranda's ass better."

You could have just not talked to Steve right?

Sure I could have.  But then I'd miss out on a lot, because he got a lot of scenes.

I have nothing against him, but is there anyone, and I'm including gay people in on this, who wanted this time spent on Steve if they had an option of it being spent on another character already in the series?

Could you give examples of how other characters were shortchanged? I don't recall any major characeters being developed any less than they deserve.

Jacob - People who romanced Jacob were told they were dumped and thats the end of it.
Miranda - A few cameo's then a little reunion at the end, awful romance
Thane - Almost no reaction to his death
Ashley - Barely on screen.  Assume this goes for Kaidan too.
Grunt - Vega was taking his spot on the team

Thats just off the top of my head.  Pretty much all the ME2 cast could have benefitted from the amount of time Steve got.  And I'd rather have spent that time with any one of them, even Zaeed.

Bah, can't believe helping this, but... as a Jackolyte, I'm love-bound to.

Jack - emotionless romance given barely any options. If it came down to me picking Steve or Jack to have on board (and I really did like Steve; I liked him more than Vega, to be honest; "Loco?" *****, I'm your CO), well, bye Cortez. We went from the Paragon Jack romance full of tears and character progression and intimacy to.... whatever the hell I got to say to her on the phone before, ya know, dying.

It has nothing to do with gays. And yes, i have no idea why we got those useless crewmates like Steve, Chobot, that new you-have-messages-commander girl.

I want more Garrus i want more Tali, i want more Liara, i want more Kaiden god damn it.

Would the OP have the same complaints if Jack and Miranda had a hot shower scene together? I think not.

I wanted to kick the shuttle pilot off my ship when he threw the "Husband crap" in my face. Where is my option to turn off all homosexual interactions on MY Normandy.

Yeah, while we're at it, we should make a "no blacks" option at the beginning of the game, to avoid offending racists.

I've read posts from S/S people who say that the Liara relationship doesn't count, and was just a cop-out from Bioware.

Liara does count.

I thought Traynor was better done than Cortez. Either way though, while both felt tacked on, neither felt as out of place or "whaaaat?" inducing as Allers. Let's just say none of the characters we've met up to this point were gay/lesbian...we've met at least two reporters. My mind has been boggled by this much more than some hastily tacked on same-sex romance options.

Full on gay/lesbian? You are correct. We have had 2 Bi characters though. Chambers and Liara. Alternative lifestyles have been here since ME1.

A no hair option too, while we're at it. Wouldn't want to offend bald people.

I do agree with Traynor, her relationship seemed pointless and so did Chobots. I thought the Kaidan gay relationship seemed a bit weird.. I don't know why. Maybe it's because i'm used to seeing him with a woman. I do think it's a good thing they have S/S LI's in ME3 but they should've been more creative. I personally thought Vega was going to bisexual but that didn't happen.
FYI, i'm completely 100% for gays.. before anyone says anything.

Huh, didn't know that it was still in the code. I actually liked having Kaiden hit on me. It made for an interesting talk. Although I wish my Shep let him down a little nicer. Something like "I like you man, but not in that way" not "Lets just be professionals, Kay?"
