ME1 - Liara (who is treated as a woman, since, well, look at her)
ME2- Kelly Chambers gives lap dances regardless of gender, no man does that.

Can't agree here. I like the Multiplayer.
But the second statement is definitely true. Gays have to endure enough hate in RL thanks to people like the OP.
I'm glad Bioware thought of them in ME3.
I also like MP. Also, I endure very very little hate IRL. Cause the majority of my country isn't stuck in the nineteenth century.
And where is that? Because if your reference was about America, I would have to respectfully disagree. We, as a country, have been making great strides against bigots over the years. I think, within another 20 years, being Gay or Bi won't even be a topic. No one will care.

I hate to say I told you so...
As there was a growing "we are gay and we want gay shepard!!" campaign since ME1, i consistently said the exact same thing.
Which was while I have nothing against gay people, shoehorning in gay relationships to a series that is already established, is just going to take time and energy away from characters we love.
So what do we get? Playing chess with some girl who just got shoehorned into the game. How many more of you (gay people included) would prefer to see Shepard playing Quarian chess with Tali? Wait, is that 99% of the playerbase with their hands up?
Same, drinks with "Steve". How many more of you would prefer to see Shepard propping up the bar with Garrus? Is that even more of you?
This was a waste of time, put in to appease a small minority of whining fans. As such we got LESS Ashley. We got LESS jacob. We got LESS miranda.
Sorry, but it's true. "Steve" probably got more screen time than almost anybody, to appease the people with their "gays in space" banners, and thats a shame. I think the Jacob and Thane fans would have rather the programming time spent on them.
The same could be said for James and Allers. In fact the same could be said about the new characters in Mass Effect 2. Why did they waste time with Jacob, instead of putting in Kaidan or Wrex? You are purposely picking on the gay characters, why is that?

I didn't romance Steve yet I enjoyed his storyline. He enriched my experience of the game.
Chobot on the other hand...There's a questionable investment of development resources.
The hate for chobot is no different than the hate for steve, it's all hate. The only difference is the label you put on it.

Personally I think Bioware is focusing too much on romances in general, but might just be because I don't really think having romances in a setting where everything is on the line is a really good idea.
I think they handeld Steve well enough i.e. making it natural instead of "forced".
People need to let off steam....and gunpowder therapy isn't always appropriate

Because children were such a major part of the ME series and ALL the "straight" Shepard romances were geared toward procreation.

OP change Traynor and Cortaz to multiplayer and kinect and I think 75% of the people on here would agree with your points.

personally i think it's great that ME has taken any action on the issue. if the game is about anything it's about three choices that didn't matter in the ending. gay/straight/bi right? or is it green blue or red? hmmm i'm getting my grievances confused aren't i?
ok i'm done being sarcastic. i think the sexuality options for me3 were great and i'm glad kaidan came out of the closet. aside from the ending of ME3 the games really presented a message of unity/tolerance one way or another. ashley has her xenophobia, garrus vs tali in me 1, krogans vs salarians for the genophage, krogans vs turians, geth vs quarians, organics vs synthetics.... you get the point. it's just another layer of promoting tolerance and should be taken as such in my opinion. but it is just my opinion.

Oh it wasn't a reference to another country, just to mine. I dunno how the situation is over in America.

I wish what you say is true...however I have a feeling it will turn into another token minority thing. It's been how many years since Civil Rights act and we're still harping on the race issue? And it's not that it's all bad. Personally, I find:Harbinger of Hope wrote...

"Nation Elects First Black President" as offensive as any negative sterotype.

Yeah, anything they did with any character that wasn't Liara was a waste. She should have been the only squad member.

I feel like they should have spent more time fleshing out these characters, or dropped the whole thing to give us a better ending.

Should've retained the ME2 squaddies and programmed them to fit everyones fantasies rather than intsert uninteresting characters
Well... in Jack's backstory she clearly says she had bisexual relationships... a bit strange that she was not open for romance with Femshep on ME2.
But I loved Cortez and Traynor, they were interesting characters.
