Who here thought the endings couldn't be that bad before you beat the game?

I avoided all the spoilers pre-release, but I had seen some mentions of the endings being terrible. Playing the game, which was so damn fantastic, I figured they were just people exaggerating.

Boy, was I wrong.

I was so very, very wrong. I couldn't have been more wrong. They were worse than anything I could have believed. The opening minute of the Angry Joe video review captures my own reaction perfectly.

Same here, i thought that was like in another games, poeple always split 50/50 and one side say its good ending, and other tell its horrible ending.

But this what i saw in ME3, That WAS eghmmm...... My worst nightmare are a lot better than this ending.

I heard about the ending being bad, but decided to see for myself. I really enjoyed the game, until I reached the ending. Shortly after that I realized the endings really were that bad...

Didn't have the luxury of reading the leak. I felt the game could do no wrong by the end. The shock probably just made it worse.

Me too. Tried another play through of just the end, and it was the same.

The only thing I am a bit more shocked at is the number of people who haven't played the game complaining about our observations.

But there is some good out of this. The donations to the kids charity, and the Marauder Shields artwork are two. :)

^This.  You have no idea how many anti-ending-hater threads I've seen that begin with the line "I haven't finished the game yet, but..."

"Crappy ending? In Mass Effect? Yeah right... I don't believe that. I'll just make sure to make all the right choices in ME3 to get the best ending possible.''

Based on Bioware previous gems, like Jade Empire, KOTOR 1, BG2:Throne of Bhaal, ME1 and 2, i expected Renegade/Paragon Endings or something in between.

What a shocker. I wish they simply went with Renegade/Paragon Endings.

This. It was like being betrayed by an old friend.

I saw a headline on Kotaku about the petition to change the ending, thought that it couldn't be that bad, and figured it was something minor everyone was upset about. Should have listened to Marauder Shields.

I caught wind of the leaks and spoilers before the game came out but I refused to believe them because the ending couldn't possibly be that bad. Plus it was just leaks and the game wasn't out yet.

... Then I actually played the game myself and saw the ending. I should have better prepared myself.

I try pretty hard to avoid spoilers heading into Bioware games. I heard rumors that some got the game early, and that the ending was horrific. I thought I was prepared for a bit of a letdown, but wow... I wasn't ready for the gut-wrenching disappointment I experienced upon seeing it myself.

Imagine what it was like for those of us in the first few days who hadn't even heard of the possibility that the endings were bad. At least people can steel themselves now.

I purposely avoided as much about ME3 beyond officially released trailers and such as I could. So I heard a few whispers about the leaked script on gaming mags on such (like the Doc's response to it) I went in completely void of any expectation.

I almost wish I had went out and read some responses. For me it was even worse. If I 'had' known to expect something.....wrong I probably would have been more prepared. I was dumbstruck by the absurdity of it.

I heard about some people complaining about the "shocking ending" and i never thought it would be that bad, so i happily played through all the ending... only to find... well, you guys now the result:

I had total faith in Bioware, ME has never let me down before.
If it wasn't for the ending i would have defended it as an almost flawless trilogy.

I thought it is was just trolling. People that hurried through with little readiness and wanted to have a laugh at the players like myself who put in long and methodical sessions but then I was hit with the ending. I mean hit with it! So I apologize to anyone I dismissed.

In my case, I was pleasantly surprised.

I was expecting the worst after hearing so many complaints and actually the synthesis ending was pretty damn good. Just finished it today.

Comguard2 wrote...

Tried another ending. Saw that it was only a different color.

What do you mean the other endings are only a different color?

So if you choose to control or destroy the reapers instead of synthesis, you still see Jeff and EDI escape to a new planet, and Jeff has synthetic circuitry from becoming a hybrid?

I was hoping for the best. I destroyed the Reapers which was my goal but the total and complete lack of closure for Shep and Co. was beyond worse than what I was expecting.

Even having read many of the spoilers didn't prepare me for this.

Me, I actively came on the boards to defend the autodialogue and the game as I played through it. I made a post at some point saying it was probably some fanboy who didn't get the exact wording or specific scene HE wanted in the ending.

Then I got to it..... need I say more?

I heard there was grumbling, but didn't take it seriously.

I never suspected that writers so talented as to create the Mass Effect games could ever produce an ending so awful.  It was unthinkable to me.  It's as if James Cameron or Peter Jackson made Troll 2.  They're better than that.

I heard it got bad reviews, but I chalked it up to not being on steam and day one DLC. Boy was I wrong.
