I didn't look at any info or leaks before ME3 was released, so I had no idea what to expect. The rest of the game was written so beautifully that I couldn't have imagined the ending would be... well... what it is. It's a scuff on an otherwise amazing game. It's an impossible scuff to ignore, though.

I played ME3 just like ME2. Carefully making sure everything was done so when I started final mission I would have the best chance at success. So I finished (green) and thought "Well I screwed something up, better have another go". I saw there was 16 endings, so clearly I got the bad one. Beat a second time (red), and... no words for it.

UGH.  In ME2 I made a bad pick with my squad on the suicide run and Tali died.  I was so grief striken, like Superman wanting to save Lois Lane, I went back in time to right my wrong.  With ME3, I accidentally picked synergy. I was confused about the choices, I thought I had to get close to the beam to shoot it.  Then it sucked me in.  I was so appalled by the circuits on the leaf, that I went back through the London mission again to see what I did wrong.  I paid more attention, then shot at the right platform.  The ending didn't have any idiotic circuits in leaves, but it was still more confusing because Kaidan and Garrus were magically on the Normandy crash landing on a planet that looks like Virmir.  What the heck was that?  I found that unlike ME2, I couldn't go back in time to get a better outcome.  LAME

When my Shepard was talking to Anderson at the end, I was thinking, "People thought THIS was a bad ending? What the hell? This is perfect."

And then the StarChild happened. :|

I have to admit i fall into that group too. Right up until those last 10 minutes i was sure things couldnt be that bad.
To me it's the most disappointing game ending since 'Soul Reaver'. It's not so much the events of the ending but the brevity of them and the fact its virtually identical regardless of your actions.

I was one who ignored all the spoilers and talk about the massively disappointing ending. Thought it was just overreaction or mass hysteria. I went back and got all 3 "endings" because I thought I made a mistake in my first choice. I've been in a state of semi-depression ever since.

Actually if anything, what I heard rumours about spurred me on to collect as many war assets as possible, to do multiplayer, to try and make sure I got the absolute best ending. lol

From hearing people saying they were bad before I finished, I just expected them to be sad. Like reallllly heart wrenching etc. Oh boy was I surprised.

Oh yes. God yes..

It was worse than I could possibly imagine. When you hear bad, you might think "Killing my Shepard" bad, but not "Destroying the entire IP" bad. Who the heck thinks a company is willing to commit franchise suicide for an ending? It's not even well done franchise suicide either, which just makes it worse!

"Aww, people are just exaggerating. I'm sure I'll love it."

And then I beat the game.

Yep.

I just couldn't bring myself to believe that the ending could be as bad as people were making out.

Annoyingly I bought a load of Spectre packs for multiplayer before finishing the game.  Really wish I hadn't now.

Like you heard that the endings were bad but you were somewhere in the middle of the game and you told yourself people are probably just a bunch of whiners.

I certainly did.

Man Oh man was I wrong.

I did too... with the same outcome -.-

I was more like "People will always whine about an ending..." I played it and all the way to after the credits I could keep my calm. Then there was that scene with the boy and his granddad or whatever. That was just... No. No. No. No.

The most insulting blow came after that. Buy more DLCs please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I didn't even know that there was any sort of issue with the ending before I played through.

I didn't read anything about anything until after I had beaten the game. Didn't think the ending was all that bad though. Guess that's the difference between making your own opinions as opposed to taking on a preconceived opinion and setting yourself up to be disappointed and/or whiny.

Lol also this. The ending is so jarring because of so many other scenes where they get it right.

Me. I just assumed people were upset that Shepard or a particular crewmate died (since many have strong bonds with their Shepard).

I honestly didn't expect the ending I received.

I really didn't know what to expect. I was hearing a lot about the endings ... then after I finished it all I was like " Is that it?" "that was the end of the trilogy?!??"

Up to and including Anderson's death I was on the edge of my seat, close to tears, gripped in a way that VERY FEW games have ever managed to accomplish.

And then it got weird.  And then it got stupid.

And then it ended.

And because there was no resolution to boil out the emotional build-up, guess where all that emotional energy went instead?

THE INTERNET!
