I heard about the endings before I finished the game, I actually played some multiplayer so I would not finish it right away, finished the game a couple days ago..............

and I'm still depressed, a Mass Effect game should not make you feel like that, Terrible ending to the best video game series in our generation, I guess Casey thought they were being edgy, but I felt the ending was cheap, there should have been at least 4 different endings depending on what choices you made in previous games, not just different colors. I think they rushed the ending considering Martin Sheen just finished his voice work in december.

Actually, I missed all the fuss beforehand. I stay away from BSN 3 weeks before any major release to avoid spoilers. And then I finished the game within 48 hours of it's release (paid time off is so useful sometimes), and then I was like "that's it? really? WTF!!?!??"

But, I am sure I would have played the game anyway had I heard of it. I like to judge things for myself (example, I love sandbox Spider-man games, and reviewers generally give them like a 6 or something), and so would have decided to see for myself. Oh well.

Yeah, I never thought it would be like it was. I had heard rumours about the three choices, Shepard dying, and the Mass Relays being destroyed, but I assumed Bioware's presentation would make it a fitting ending. I mean I'm a big Babylon 5 fan and one of my favourite things about the Mass Effect series is that it seemed to take a lot of story cues from B5. B5's ending was somewhat bittersweet. The war was one and the younger races of the galaxy were finally free to chart their own future (sound familiar?), but it all came at a high cost. Major characters died, enemies were still waiting the shadows to extract their revenge, etc. But at the end of it all, you felt like the heroes achieved something. Boy, was I wrong with Mass Effect 3. The ending was so incoherent and filled with plot holes. It rushed by with a big WTH. It didn't feel satisfying at all. You should be sad at a good conclusion because the story is over and there is no more, but I felt a completely different sad.

<- This one!

I took my time playing, didn't rush. I hated the beginning (bad voice acting, plot made no sense since I hadn't played Arrival) but as the game went on I fell in LOVE. I thought it was a masterpiece.

I avoided the community (and thus spoilers) like the plague but whenever it was mentioned anywhere all I saw was "FIX THE ENDING" and I just could not understand. I thought the game was amazing.

And then it happened. Why did it have to happen :(

I would've bet my entire year's salary that there was no way they could produce an ending that would make me not EVER want to play ME again.

And I would've lost.

I went in with low expectations. I always cared more about the characters and felt that the reapers were just the backdrop. Considering the "closure" we got, nothing could have prepared me for how bad the ending was.

Me. I thought people were just exaggerating about how bleak it was and the lack of choices.

I avoided all media coverage of Mass Effect 3 (Skyrim Helped me there), so I went in knowing one thing, Earth gets invaded by Reapers.

Still, with no real expectations, the Ending was the most disappointing moment in gaming in the last 10 years. I mean, how do you go from the Garrus Love Interest specific "Goodbye" scene before the push into No-Man's Land, to... That???

When my Shepard was talking to Anderson at the end, I was thinking, "People thought THIS was a bad ending? What the hell? This is perfect."

And then the StarChild happened. :|

The Anderson moment I was in tears.  It was like a "Saving Private Ryan" moment.  "You did good, kid.  You did good." ala "Make it count."

When Hackett paged Shepard and she says, "What do you need me to do?" I was awestruck.  Atta girl.

Then...yeah.  Starchild. >.<

I still don't understand why Shepard didn't ask the Catalyst why the hell it took the shape of the boy on earth, at least one little word, it could have at least said they could not explain it because the ending was rushed

I kept hearing the endings were bad and your choices didn't matter and I thought "Nonsense, they're exagerrating. This game is a blast, there's no way the ending can be that bad."

And then...

this.

I blazed through the game in few days after release.
I just sat there, dazed for a few seconds when the credits started to roll.
I kept sitting there, expecting a post-credits epilogue.
Got the dumb grandpa/kid.
Get message saying to buy DLC!
Bitter laughter.
Came on Forums.

I'd seen the spoilers, but part of me was unwilling to believe it. I mean, DA2 had flaws, but there was no way that anyone would even think of ending ME the way those spoilers said it did. 'So what if the game has been data-mined' I thought. 'Surely there will be more context to it than this? Ingame cinematics perhaps? Maybe there's a secret ending that hasn't been discovered yet?'

Then I started playing the game and it was great. So I became more hopeful. And then Bioware broke my heart. Never felt such disappointment over any fictional work, be it a game or a book or a movie.

I sadly believed that there was no way the ending could be that bad. I bought two copies and the day one dlc.

*Raises hand*  I still think there's a chance for redemption if the indoctrination theories play out and Bioware's been holding back a 'real' ending for us.

However, as it stands, yes, I could not prepare myself for the bafflement that was the ending we got.  I had seen the outrage, but suspected it was just people being rabble-rousing lunatics, as is always the case with the end of a grand journey.  Then I saw it.  At that moment, it all clicked, and I murmured a silent apology to all those I had dismissed as squeaky wheels.

Yeah...nothing can really prepare you for the endings as they stand.  I'm definitely not as upset as many are, but it's still pretty mind-boggling that Bioware green lighted this as the ending to their flagship franchise.

I managed to avoid anything remotely spoilery about the entire game before I started - all I heard was that the endings were rumoured to be "not good", but I figured I'd see for myself before judging or reading anything about them. *sigh*

First thing I did when I finished the game was look on here to see if I picked a wrong option somewhere - needless to say, I wasn't impressed when I found the game ended the same no matter what I did...

I was even planning my next playthrough, right up to the point where Shep passed out in front of the console. 10 minutes later, I had no desire to play the game ever again.

I had absolutely no warning or preparation. I beat the game relatively soon after I got it, and I hadn't heard anything about the ending. Needless to say, it hit me pretty hard. I was immediately here, searching for answers among the others who had completed the game.

Like you heard that the endings were bad but you were somewhere in the middle of the game and you told yourself people are probably just a bunch of whiners.

I certainly did.

Man Oh man was I wrong.

My thoughts and experience exactly. I just thought the game was getting trolled but WOW I was so wrong. Worst ending to a game ever IMO - even worse than jumk rush jobs like Halo 2.

I thought there would have to be some redeeming quality. There would have to be. This is a BioWare game, after all.

But there wasn't.

I also freely admit I had nightmares about the Mass Effect 3 ending.

Not specifically the ending but rather the disappointment I felt in the ending.

I had avoided all talk of ME3 and the internet talk in general (I HATE spoilers), so I hadn't a clue.  The rest of the game was that brilliant that the ending knocked the stuffing out of me.  :(
