It's just a bit of a joke to be a Mass Effect fan now

I get what you mean, but for me, the series has no replay value now. It's a game based on decision making and roleplaying, both of which prove useless in the end. When you play ME1, ME2 or ME3 you're working towards an outcome by making carefully planned decisions that you already know don't matter anyway. It almost retroactively makes playing ME1 and ME2 not fun.
Exactly.
Edit: Mass Effect became every other game campaign, one you play through once and don't bother with again, because you already knkow the story. (Maybe you play it a few times for achievements, like many are doing for ME3, but that isn't the same)

The ending ruined the replay value for many people. Maybe not for you, but for lots of others. The reviews reflect that.

Like being a StarWars fan after the prequels, except that you don't even have the original series as a fall back.
That is why I think this is hitting some people so hard. It's not just a game, it's a little bit of yourself that should have been great fun to share with others, now isn't.
Ummm, not that I agree (that it is a joke to be an ME), but this whole "joke of an ME3 ending" is because of BSN. So, are you complaining because you were successful in trashing the ending so well?
EDIT:

Good for you. I'm in the middle of an ME3 replay with most of my squad dead as a result of ME2's sucide mission and I'm loving the little changes, different characters, and different options in the story. Sure, the ending will be the same, but the journey definately will not.

if you compare a videogame to a real woman im sorry that makes you look really sad beyond belief
Good job making yourself look like an idiot. I tip my hat to you.

I had no control whatsoever over the toxic mix of boredom and rage I felt during the last half hour of ME3. Sorry. This isn't my fault.
You can blame people for their actions, but you can't ask them to feel differently. Asking me to lie about my feelings towards the game for the sake of the game doesn't make much sense? Given that I've discovered I hate it, why I would I spare it that emotion to save it?

The BSN DRINKING GAME!
1. Ingredients:
You need A. alot of beer or other 4.5-7% alcoholic beverage, and
B. one or two bottles of Jägermeister depending on how resistant you are.
2. The Rules:
Everytime someone complains, take a sip of beer.
Everytime someone insults someone else, take one shot of Jägermeister.
You must keep to reading the Mass Effect 3 General Discussion and Story forums.
3. Drink responsibly!
Blatant jokes aside, it is quite sad that a very loud and offensive minority on these forums (who by now seems to have left by their own accord or been banned) were so up in arms immediately after release that that is all many of the outside people will see.

Born in 1982 and a life long Star Wars fan. The prequels did not destroy the franchise for me. Some great things still came out after like KoToR, Jedi Academy, SWG, and theres some books and comics in there.
Just like the Mass Effect franchise. It is more then the few minutes of this game.

Prettymuch. If you describe yourself as a fan of a company like Bioware, it's basically a declaration of your faith in that company's product and business practices. And if it turns out that your faith has been misplaced and you wind up feeling cheated... you feel absolutely *idiotic* for having held out faith for as long as you did. And boy do you not ever forget the guy who reeled you in. Not ever.
And then you spread the word.

Sorry, I might be getting too general and sematical here, didn't mean for it to be personal. No, you are entitled to your opinion, I gave up on trying to persuade people/things out of my control long time ago.
What I am saying, is that you should not be ignorant of the consequences of how you express youself. BSN can hate the ending, but they have turned to great lengths--including hyperbolic criticism and doing anything to tarnish the image of the game--to get it changed.
I am only stating that this effect will be to tarnish the image of Mass Effect and by extention, being a Mass Effect fan. So, you can hate the ending and the game, but don't be surprised when being a fan is "embarrasing" as a result of how BSN has expressed their hate of the endings.

This thread is a joke. ME3 is an awesome game, stop obsessing over one little aspect of it like a tool.
The majority sees itself as stating an opinion. The minority sees its opinion constantly being drowned out. The minority gets frustrated and angry.

"The community has been articulate, considerate, and for the most part extremely respectful and smart with how it is providing its feedback. And a large portion of those dissatisfied with the ME3 endings are cautioning others to keep the criticism constructive, to be respectful to the developers, and to remain civil in their arguments. I appreciate that a great deal, and I thank you and the rest of our community for that." --Stanley Woo (moderator)
Many people are civil in expressing their opinion.

Right. I get what you mean.
So far, however, the associated meme has been '... still a better ending than Mass Effect 3.' Not 'Mass Effect fans are spotty skinny obese basement dwelling whiney...' etc, you know the drill.
So I'll maintain my contention that the franchise has damaged itself, rather than the actions of the fans. Some of the reported actions have been *interesting*, but the places they're being reported are hardly top tier news. The Childs Play initiative is, frankly, beautiful. How angry are people about this? They're so mad that they gave $5 to charity, that's how mad they are!
That's more charming than cringe worthy.
Also, sadly, the BSN really is just the very tip of the iceberg as far as this goes. It's a nice thought, but you're drastically overstating the forum's influence in a way. What will be worrying Bioware are the metrics they can gather that establish the link between the vocal minority and the vast majority of players.
Or to put it another way, Star Wars fans are kinda weird, but kinda delightful. But *everyone* seems to have hated the prequels.

That's because you say things like "I still love mass effect". It doesn't sound like a confident statement, and it makes you look doubtful. If you just said, "Yeah, I love Mass Effect, great trilogy", maybe throw a "pity about the ending, though" in at the end, no one would sound like a "simpering moron".

I think that will play out in the coming weeks if BioWare continues to sit on their hands.
