On a serious note, as a Brit it was nice to have the ending in London.

I get bored with everything revolving around America.

This. :D

I felt it was awesome how we got to visit London of all places! It is really rare to have anything set in England.

Because it's not NY, and too much happens in NY.

Because not every game set in the future has to have the US as the Earth.

Nice change of pace really.
I had hoped it would have more significance though, other than " 'cause we say so"

It's the only place the Reapers can get a good cup of tea and a pack of jammy dodgers.

+1 ME3 starts in Canada, ends in UK

Isn't the start based around a Seattle/Vacouver super city?  The U.S. and Canada are basically one country in ME aren't they?

Does it really matter? Earth is a grey wasteland by the end.

I'd say it's because the first area of the game isn't London.

The question we should be asking is why Bioware used London in their early Mass Effect 3 promo trailers, and why the guy inside Big Ben (Major Coats?) only got the most minor story role in the game. I recall everyone desperately trying to figure out who voiced him and if he was going to be in your squad - he's not in your squad and he's not listed in the game's credits either...

Reapers only harvest advanced and intellegent, so the usa wouldnt be the choice.

I laughed and I'm American.

Personally, I would have loved to be in Mombasa.  A throwback to Halo (yes, I know it's New Mombasa in Halo, but I'm not sure if there is a New Mombasa in the Mass Effect universe).  Also, the equator of the Earth bulges out, so it would be a shorter distance into space.

Why not Tokyo? Or New York?

They'd be more original!

Lima, Dodoma or Vientiane. Now THAT would be original!

because the other major cities have been destroyed all too often in media, it was the UK's turn for a change

Don't the Daleks destroy London every Christmas?  XP I mean there's two seasons. Dalak Attack and rebuild after Dalek attack.

Also I'm pretty sure it's because Big Ben was easiests to blow up in cut and paste ending shots. ;p

No, they're the North American United States. Although it's possible Seattle and Vancouver have merged into one of the "sprawling megatropolises" mentioned in the Codex or what have you, you were definitely on the British Columbia/Vancouver side at the start of the game.

Although the countries did merge into one "super country", the name indicates they kept their provinces, and probably territorial lines, still intact except where unfeasable.

One of the many unanswered questions. What was special about London? Why were they beaming people up to the Citadel? They clearly could make husks on the fly. Why'd they even bring the dang Citadel to Earth in the first place, let alone create the London-to-Citadel express beam?

First, they had begun full scale harvesting operations and were bringing humans up to to create a new reaper.
Second, they brought the Citadel to earth because earth was their main base of operations, and with the majority of the reapers being there they could easily fortify their position and defend the Citadel.

Dunno why I even posted that, its all explained in the game. :P

Secret fact: it looks like it takes place in London, but it's really Cardiff.
