Because the Reapers need the Magical Sword Excalibur to empower the Catalyst to resurrect King Arthur so that the Human Reaper gets the King that was foretold would return.

Made me laugh.

Still a better ending?

In seriousness, this.

Sadly, not only did we not get a cameo from the Doctor, but Helena G. Wells didn't get to shoot a Reaper down with her Tesla either.

Why is it London in the ending? I'm curious because video games are rarely set in the UK :3

Because it would be ridiculous to join Christophe Vasser's boat in Lyon. :3

Also... Anderson was born there... *silence*

Indestructible phone booths. The Reapers thought it would work in their favor - they were wrong.

I don't know how many of you folks are from the UK, but I get highly amused when I see an American view of the UK such as this. I mean, how many of the 'British' accents actually sound British? And even better, when was the last time anyone in the UK actually saw a 'classic' red telephone box? They were all replaced years ago with transparent glass cubicles when British Telecom phased them out. The only ones left are the relics they forgot about, and those that remain as collector's items :)

On a serious note, as a Brit it was nice to have the ending in London.

I get bored with everything revolving around America.

The reapers coming down during the "trial" scene kind of reminded me of old Godzilla movies. Something just seems "off" about the scale of the reapers and the buildings in that scene. Like toy models filmed at an angle to appear larger.

Not complaining since I live in London, but I thought they could've done a lot more with the actual levels set there. I know it was meant to be a scene of death and destruction, but it all just felt pretty dull. Oh and there was one other thing that bothered me. During the game, Anderson tells Shepard that the Reapers are planning something in London. This was way before we find out the Citadel is the Catalyst (ish) and the Reapers move it to Earth. So did the Reapers always intend to take the Citadel to Earth and set up a transporter beam in London? Because the way TIM makes it sound, they only acted when he told them of its true nature. I'm a little confused as to how that all played out.

If you remember form the beginning of the game, London s one of the first, if not the first place to get hit. Could be because of that.

I haven't seen any in absolutely ages. There's no doubt there's still one or two hanging around, but in Mass Effect 3 it seems there's one on every corner. If we go by that logic, in the future mobile phones will be phased out and we'll all return to using payphones - at which point BT will bring back the classic red box...

It's not just Mass Effect that did this - a lot of material overexaggerates British culture. It's highly amusing :)

Because if I had to go through New York again for the millionth time I'd have smashed my face into my desk.

I've been to New York, it's nice and all but... variety is the spice of life.

Personally I'd have preferred Berlin or Rome, real examples of proper civilization instead of some silly clock.

<3 ya Brits.

Given all the pre-launch comparisons to WW2, I figured London was a logical choice. The last stand/holding out to the bitter end deal fits in with the whole Churchill 'We shall never surrender" speech, and probably had a lot to do thematically with the 76 straight nights the ****'s bombed the city. At least that's what leaps to mind when I think about why they based the final fight in London. That whole deal during WW2 stands out as one of the truely inspiring examples of how resilient and determined people can be in the face of overwhelming destruction.

One of the many unanswered questions. What was special about London? Why were they beaming people up to the Citadel? They clearly could make husks on the fly. Why'd they even bring the dang Citadel to Earth in the first place, let alone create the London-to-Citadel express beam?

Anderson said he was born there and was returning.  The bulk of the Reaper forces were besieging Earth, and Shep is notified (by Hackett, I think, but I could be wrong) that the Reapers have brought the Citadel there to guard it and try to stop Shep & co plugging the Crucible into it.

The phone boxes were so exaggerated, I was half expecting a dude with a bowler hat and a monacle to turn up and say 'What ho, Shepard, old bean".
