Why London?

London, honestly, would seem a much more "nuetral" area for a large Alliance HQ.

Still better than the ending of ME3, I'd say (old chap)melisma wrote...

The phone boxes were so exaggerated, I was half expecting a dude with a bowler hat and a monacle to turn up and say 'What ho, Shepard, old bean".

The thing I don't get is that Anderson mentions the Reapers planning something in London way before TIM rats out. So did the Reapers already know about the true nature of the Citadel, or were they planning on moving it there anyway? Maybe they were planning something else entirely? A little confused about that part. Not sure if it's just poor writing or it's meant to be vague.dmath2 wrote...

One of the many unanswered questions. What was special about London? Why were they beaming people up to the Citadel? They clearly could make husks on the fly. Why'd they even bring the dang Citadel to Earth in the first place, let alone create the London-to-Citadel express beam?
Anderson said he was born there and was returning. The bulk of the Reaper forces were besieging Earth, and Shep is notified (by Hackett, I think, but I could be wrong) that the Reapers have brought the Citadel there to guard it and try to stop Shep & co plugging the Crucible into it.

On a more serious note, I think it's because it's pretty recognisable while not overused in gaming.

I honestly don't get it. I was being flippant, yeah, but also serious. Flippant because he says the same thing to you twice, but serious because Bioware probably did want to add a location with a connection to a main character (since I think it was established in the books that he was born in London?)

I meant it was established in the books before they added it to ME3

Yeah, I don't get it either. Came completely out of left field on that one.

pmsl what can a birt say to that.
but why not London? it had to be some where in the end. and i think they used London to tie in the star of the game. i.e the UK video link we see a few seconds off, then it cuts out.

Indestructible phone booths. The Reapers thought it would work in their favor - they were wrong.
I don't know how many of you folks are from the UK, but I get highly amused when I see an American view of the UK such as this. I mean, how many of the 'British' accents actually sound British? And even better, when was the last time anyone in the UK actually saw a 'classic' red telephone box? They were all replaced years ago with transparent glass cubicles when British Telecom phased them out. The only ones left are the relics they forgot about, and those that remain as collector's items
well there is a red telephone box down the street from me and its deemed a "classic" by local residents so![]()
I haven't seen any in absolutely ages. There's no doubt there's still one or two hanging around, but in Mass Effect 3 it seems there's one on every corner. If we go by that logic, in the future mobile phones will be phased out and we'll all return to using payphones - at which point BT will bring back the classic red box...
It's not just Mass Effect that did this - a lot of material overexaggerates British culture. It's highly amusing
