If Bioware was based in the US I'm sure they would have forgotten about the rest of the world. Sure maybe the more well know cites would have gotten a one-liner nod but most likely the ending would have happened in a US city.

I was thinking this at the time. Only reason I came up with other than why not/lucky dip, is in 200 years how many easily recognisable landmarks would still exist within major cities that could be used in the game.

Also a sniper in the statue of liberty?
blow up the white house (think I have seen that somewhere...).
Im sure there are other places that would have also worked, but if they wanted it outside the US for worldwide appeal while maintaining an easily recognisable backdrop then London probably is one of the easiest choices.

p.s. I think the jammy dodgers might be a good point

All kidding aside, in game Anderson and Hackett said the Reapers were targeting major metropolitan areas.

As a game setting, I was pretty amused to be sniping from behind the red phone booths!

They wanted to watch the British version of the office and not the American one

I'd say it's because the first area of the game isn't London.

The question we should be asking is why Bioware used London in their early Mass Effect 3 promo trailers, and why the guy inside Big Ben (Major Coats?) only got the most minor story role in the game. I recall everyone desperately trying to figure out who voiced him and if he was going to be in your squad - he's not in your squad and he's not listed in the game's credits either...

While I'd have to watch the trailer with him in the clock tower again to tell you if it's the same VA.  I can say from the game that it is the voice actor for Male Hawke from DA2.   He just has a different accent than he did for DA2.

there a 4 very recognisable cities in the world, New York, Washington DC, pairs and London. seeing as people are getting a bit fed up of the world revolving around america, London or Paris were an obvious choice. personally I would have chosen Paris and made the Eiffel tower into something special, like a weapon

 Probably!
More Likely they wanted to choose a well known city that wasn't so overly used, New York and LA has seen enough destruction in games and movies :P.

Well, London is a cool and popular city also Admiral David Anderson birthplace, so no wonder he wants to protect it stronger.

Also as someone just pointed out why must games always be in the US?
Mass Effect did that differently the opening is in Vancover (Canada bioware's home) and the ending is in London (England)
