Any hope of sneaking that fix in with the EC? I do so love those two!
I really hope they do. Because Ash is always on bomb-duty for me, and I never get to hear ANY of the engineering dialogue T.T

To my great sadness and embarrassment, it looks like there is a bug here that got introduced just before ship. It looks like the test for "is it time for ambient dialog in engineering" accidentally got switched to "are you good friends with Ashley". How did this bug happen? I have no idea, and need to do some detective work. This doesn't just block Ken and Gabby banter, but I think this blocks some Tali and Garrus banter in engineering too. As it stands now to see that banter, I believe you'll need to get Ashley in your party and take her on missions and/or give Ashley lots of attention by speaking to her and giving her the gift in the hospital. If you have Kaidan in your game, obviously this can't be done, and that sucks.
Though the fix is easy, the difficult part is getting the fix into a patch of some sort. Getting content fixes into patches is much harder than you'd think. It's a giant process. I'll try to get that fix through, but sadly, the odds of getting this type of fix into a patch is very low. It just kills me that so many of the people who care about Ken and Gabby (those of you reading this forum) didn't get to see that content. I tested the heck out of it too for weeks before ship. You just don't now how sorry I am.
I know you could have just stayed quiet on the whole thing and avoided the fan whinging, so posting is really appreciated.
As a completionist with the entire trilogy (and to date has done and found everything in +80 hour games), I used to go down to Engineering too all the time to hear their amusing banter in Mass Effect 2. And while I know the odds are against it because of the risk of new bugs being caused, here's another hand up in support of a fix addition for this issue into a patch for players who have Kaiden in their game.
Thanks again for the explaination Dusty.

So, has bioware fixed the bug yet? I really want to see their banter
When Dusty reported the bug in the first place, he said:

And if you look at the patch descriptions for 1.02 and 1.03, there's no mention of them.
Maybe it'll get in the EC? But I wouldn't hold my breath.

wow. Nice work, but I fear that this may destroy all conversations with Ash. How much could be affected by this change?
If Ashley is alive, unless you don't have her friendship high enough, you don't need to implement this workaround, so that shouldn't be an issue.
If you're asking because Ashley's friendship isn't high enough to trigger the banters...that I don't know how to respond to and would probably relate to the question downthread about what precisely those plot flags are. Best I can do is look up the flag values in my Ashley friendship playthrough to see what each of them are.

Additionally, if you force the second number to be inordinatly high, it forces her to be the second (if non-LI ) crewmember in the ending scene. This leads me to believe each crewmember has a mission variable that can determin them to be you're "favorite." I, like many with the From Ashes DLC have the issue (if Javik is fully spoken too) always having him be the second crew member. My guess says that is because his two variables, espeically his conversation one (given the shere number of times you can talk to him) can be much higher than any other characters. I've tested that by recruiting him early, never using him, but talking to him fully and still he comes out over any other squaddie. If anyone has his mission count int# can they supply it?

I don't recall Liara's flippy monitors noted in 1.03 patch notes, but they're definitely fixed for me (PC).Alix71 wrote...

I read somewhere that you only should try the fix if Ashley doesn't join Shepard (for whatever reason) as it can glitch Ashley's dialog (what little there seems to be of it).Kickiluxxx wrote...
Is it alright if I have Ashley and I add 10330 before she joins my party?

It turns out that the Ken/Gabby bug couldn't be fixed in a code patch, but hopefully it can be fixed in downloadable content. I can't make any promises, but I'm hopeful that it will get fixed in the Extended Cut, and if not that, then in a later DLC.

Dusty, I love you! I was literally just wondering about this, I am so glad you care about this game as much as we do. Ashley is the most boring character to have on the ship, but I like the engineers so much that I feel obligated to keep Ash around. I repeat, I love you!

Tested and yes. 10330 has no ill-effects as it is just a mission count (i.e. 10330 = 3 means you've had her on 3 missions as a squadmate, so setting it to 8 just means eight missions.).
10314 is her "relationship" (friendship or otherwise) count and altering that one DOES screw up her dialog. 10330 has no effect on her, only on forcing the dialog banter in Engineering. The only thing I haven't tested yet on this fix is having Ash, keeping her alive (with 10330 set to 8 from Mars on) but not being friendly. My guess says having Ash as a squadmate alot may force "friendlier" dialog (especially at the coupe attempt) but I doubt it.

Stand outside Gamble's office, and give him the look. "Every time a player enters engineering and Ken and Gabby have nothing to say, kittens die. Kittens, Mike! We're murdering kittens! This has to stop!"

Are you guys aware of the similar bug that occurs if you're in a ME1 romance with Ashley? If you're in a ME1 romance with Ashley the engineering dialogue won't trigger either.
You see? This is what happens when you rush games.
