So if they did release a new ending, wouldn't you be outraged?

Yes, I would. Here's the issue as I see it...they have 3 options at this point:
1) Release as paid DLC. The issue here is that the ending wasn't sufficient, and they had to put in extra. The fact that they would charge us for a proper ending is absurd...particularly since all indications point to the fact that this was not the intended ending. Why on Earth would they craft the game in such detail (except a few plot holes...*cough*Sovereign endangering himself 3 years before the Reapers could have just flown in*cough*)
2) Release as free DLC. The issue I have here is that this would likely happen IF they had originally intended for said DLC to be the real ending. This would mean they cut content out, most likely to get a rise out of the community and their fans. Anyone buying the game and not playing it online (approx 20% of the population doesn't even have a regular internet connection), would be stuck with the crappy ending, all because BioWare wanted to make a publicity stunt. What happens when I go back in 10 years and want to play through the game again? I'm stuck with the crappy ending, because the XBL service has been replaced...or EA has taken the server down...or I can't even get the best ending because nobody is playing multiplayer anymore!
3) They leave it as it is. That's right, leave in the 16 endings that are all identical and make no sense (Yay Joker randomly running from the Battle for Earth with the squadmates you had with you planetside!) A finely crafted experience that takes over 100 hours per playthrough (across all 3 games), ending with the alien from Contact. Bioware should have sent a poet!

The way I see it, 2 is the MOST desirable, but still offensive. Regardless of what comes of this, BioWare should be extremely ashamed. This is either a cheap marketing tactic, or pure idiocy on their part. Been a huge fan for the past 9 years, but after this horror show, the complete raping of Dragon Age, and, to be honest, my huge disappointment in ME2...I think I'm done supporting this company.

It wouldn't upset me.  For one, I don't think the bad endings were malicious on their part.   I think it was A) bad decision making and B) an attempt to still maintain some surprise/control after the plot leak.  I can forgive simple oversight and I'd even be willing to pay for a fix.  I don't expect Bioware to work for free.  And if people did like the endings we have or thought the idea of overwriting them is dumb for whatever reason, they can just ignore the DLC and keep the on disc ending.  I don't see a problem really.

Look, we can be mad about the ending and then want DLC, or we can be fine with the ending and be mad about the DLC. We can't be mad at both.

The exception being that we had to pay for the DLC and it was terrible.

No, everybody make stupid mistakes, sometimes it just happens. If they fix it, why should I be "outraged"?

I'm outraged now, because the series I love was turned into joke, told by some stargeezer.

Why can't you be mad at both, exactly? Bioware either knew this was going to upset people, or they didn't...either way they made a HUGE mistake. Just because they release a fix doesn't mean it's not worth getting mad about. Free DLC would show that they are redeemable...but that doesn't mean I feel like I can trust them anymore.

This is a disaster of their own creating, and their steadfast refusal to acknowledge it is pretty offensive. They need to issue an apology ASAP, even if this is what they intended all along.

I will go from angry, to a very happy person (if they do it right) in an instant. Followed by replaying the trilogy 2-3 times this year alone.

This is coming from a guy who only replays games (single player) once every 3 or so years if lucky.

Well, the new ending could suck too. But with the amount of feedback we've given them, it would be much harder to screw it up :)

Ya know... one thing I'm getting tired of seeing from the 'Yes' camp is them painting everyone in the 'No' camp as wanting a happy ending, like the Penny Arcade suggested. Would'ja knock that crap off already? It's gotten plenty old. Very few feel the need for such an ending. The endings we got felt like they were inspired from the first two Deus Ex games to me (damn I'm old). I felt they complimented those games nicely... but not here.

This assertion that we're trying to dictate art shows how little some in the 'Yes' camp has been paying attention. Haven't developers been quoted saying there was to be a longer dialogue with the AI at the end, explaining the lore in a bit more detail, but got scrubbed? Wasn't there dialogue between Anderson and Shepard at the end that got cut down? The original endings don't need to be replaced (so you can keep them canon), just the rest of the content and ideas that were on the table could be fleshed out and re-introduced. I trust Bioware in that some involved had better ideas laid out but were summarily discarded. I'm under the impression that the ending options were originally more expansive but became castrated. In fact I think castrated is very fitting since Shepard went from a man who wouldn't let fear compromise who he was to a man who lost his package in that transport beam (unless you played Femshep then I dunno what to say).

So in summary...

No. I just want a Mass Effect ending to replace this re-painted Deus Ex ending.

ultimately, we need to pick our battles, we can either demand a better ending through DLC and be happy if they do, or we can be mad that they never fix it. But, being angry over the fact that they fixed it would just show that you can't be pleased at all. I don't want Bioware thinking that its a lose/lose situation. I want them to know that if they fix this, we all win!

Nope, especially if it added on to where these (current) endings left us.
