so far i have the hornet(VII), shuriken(IV), tempest(II), and locust(I)
i've only used the hornet so far because it's the first SMG i unlocked and it's f***ing terrible! you can't hit a thing with it for more then two staggered shots!
i wan't to be able to point, shoot and not have too much recoil
best SMG?

Don't use the SMGs... They are plain bad. 9/10 times Avenger or Pistol will be better :| I have a Lv 10 Shuriken and it is STILL abysmally bad.

None of them. All the SMGs are terrible. Even the pistols have a faster TTK than them. The lightweight materials also seems to be broken for some people as well. IE: It shows your weight reduced but your power recharge speed stays the same as when you didn't put the mod on.

The Carnifex *chuckles*
No seriously SMGs are awful unless you don't mind getting up close to an enemy... no wait still Carnifex.

Outside of bronze, it's hard to kill anything with them. Suggest going with the Avenger rifle if you want a light auto weapon. Otherwise, heavy pistols.

i'm playing an asari adept and want to give them a go, i'm not using it as a serious weapon

Just test them all out yourself. there are too many factors to rely on other people, because there's always a "this can be a good weapon IF".
For the revenant, it's a good gun IF you can learn to manually compensate for recoil.
For the incisor, same deal, manually compensate for recoil -> trip headshot
The player makes the most of the weapon, I sincerely doubt there's anything out there that can't find utility in a certain situation.

I loved the Hornet in Single Player. I wish I could unlock that in MP.
Then my Vindicator and Hornet Burst Fire combo will be complete.

Hornet for Turians, Tempest for everyone else.

The Hornet is actually pretty awesome. You just have to hipfire it. There is basically zero recoil when hip firing.

Hornet is the only one that gets good enough damage for it to compete with other options, and Turian is needed to get the best use out of it.

All right.
Since I'm one of the very few people that actually uses SMGs and doesn't have a "don't bother" attitude, I use the Hornet. It has outstanding DPS, but the muzzle climb is quite high if you can't control it (this is what gets many people). Trick is to just shoot it from the hip. You get much better results.
If you want little recoil, then use the Locust. However the damage is a bit lacking.

Shuriken X. Does more damage than the Hornet, has less recoil, less weight and more ammo.

Actually the Hurricane has the highest DPS among automatic weapons.
Hope I get it so I can test it with the Turian Soldier.

Per burst, but not per second.
However I am shocked by how much stock ammo it has.

Hurricane's DPS assumes you can land sustained fire on something. No trivial matter with the enormous recoil and lack of a stability mod. Works good close up, but at mid to long it's ridiculous aiming that thing.

I like using smg's on my quarian engineer and infiltrator since they have weight reduces bonuses towards them.
I find they are good for putting bullets at the enemy inbetween power spam. With the right mods an smg can put a stupid amount of bullets out for a long time. I don't think of them as go-to weapons, but as minor damage filler inbetween powers.

Just tested N7 smg on turian soldier, was only on bronze as I didn't want to ruin someone's game if it sucks too badly. With smg clip and dmg barrel it did really nasty dmg and recoil was ok if you were shooting from cover or hip firing (could not really aim down the sights but wasn't really needed).
I was able to kill centurions in second and room full of troopers with single mag, shooting atlas with marksman it was at half armor by the time buff ended and I was only one shooting at it, so yeah really massive dmg if you can control it, like lightweight revenant with more recoil and a bit more dmg.
(used rank 1 inferno ammo rank 2 dmg boost, maxed marksman rate of fire and maxed passives and mine)

Hornet, and don't scope in. EVER. Otherwise the recoil will screw you over.

Definetly Hornet, If you never aim down sights. I find that it's a great backup weapon for a turian if you are using a Saber

GPSMG can be ridiculously good on HSoldier or infiltrator if used properly.
Okay, now that your laughter has died down, go try it. HSoldier + GPSMG + Heatsink + AR = 300 bullets fired consistently at the GPSMG's high rate of fire. Strap on some amp powers and you'll be great. With Infiltrator, begin firing, then cloak as soon as it gets to full speed. You'll immediately uncloak but most of the magazine will get the damage bonus.

The hornet is pretty good if you use it right, I really dislike it because it is so damn clicky though.
The Hurricane is awesome if you have it.
The tempest is alright and the geth SMG as well if you don't mind being stationary while it gets going and starts doing damage.
If you are fighting armored units, use AP ammo consumable.

Tempest is what I did best with outside of Geth SMG on Geth. I haven't used SMGs for awhile, though.
