The hornet is awesome, use it on a turian, or put stability mos on it and stop being a noob. The tempest is fantastic, and it;s way uber with marksman. The locust is fun and decent, but its crap for bosses. The hurricane is one of my least favorites, but thats because i dont like the extreme spray of bullets, but the thing is a monster. The GPSMG is fantastic,
best SMG?

The Hornet is fine, you just have to hipfire it. It's far better than the other guns you listed.

Hurricane and hornet outclass the others and are actually very good weapons, even when compared against the other classes.

the only SMG I actually like using is the Geth SMG. all the others seem to lack in accuracy or damage.... or both. if I want a rapid fire weapon I usually would rather use an AR.
I am forcing myself to use SMG's more now specially with vanguard classes since the lightweight materials are really handy to have.... still doesnt make me like them anymore lol

Hurricane + Turian Soldier...or Hurricane + Stability mod. Super high DPS

Another chime for Hurricane and Hornet. Only two SMG's I seem to like, especially on my Turians.

I'm not convinced it's the best, but the Geth SMG is good for a laugh on a Human Soldier. With both of the ammo capacity mods and Adrenaline Rush you can fire continuously -- that's roughly 1800 rounds on an X, I think (I've gone entire waves without taking my finger off the trigger). Lack of cover will get you killed, though.

Hurricane.
Wat?
Actually the Hurricane has the highest DPS among automatic weapons.
Hope I get it so I can test it with the Turian Soldier.
Hurricane's DPS assumes you can land sustained fire on something. No trivial matter with the enormous recoil and lack of a stability mod. Works good close up, but at mid to long it's ridiculous aiming that thing.

Hurricane, hip fired, with Turian specked for stability, extra ammo clip, AP ammo.
You will cut through Brutes and Banshees like butter.

I personally like the Locust X, nice damage with the Extended barrel. Can use either the heat sinks or clip capacity as other mod for maximum efficiency.

GPSMG. I tried that thing with the HS V and MagV. You can just hold your finger on the trigger. You'll go through one thermal round every 2-3 seconds and you've got 100 in a magazine. It's insane. It doesn't do much damage, but if you've got teammates down and someone needs to run out and heal, it's great for laying down suppressing fire.
And like someone said, if you're using it with an infiltrator you get the damage bonus coming out of cloak with the mag. It's not much but you can get some kills.

Don't use the SMGs... They are plain bad. 9/10 times Avenger or Pistol will be better :| I have a Lv 10 Shuriken and it is STILL abysmally bad.
I use a Turian Sentinal with a Tempest X (with both ammo mods both at level V)* on FBWGG runs. I am at the top of the score board in almost all the games I play including FBWGG. It has a much greater damage output than the Avenger and byuseing both ammo mods allows you to almost never run out. Only in very extreme situations have I ever had to use an ammo pack or run for reloads in the middle of a round. Granted, this is only my experience with the Tempest SMG, I have not used the others in any great extent. Yeah, the Shuriken sucks, but it's a begginers weapon, you can't base your opinion for all SMGs on the weakest one in the game. I have used my Tempest X with fantastic result and it has become one of my favorite weapons. It is my go to gun for classes that use powers extensivly as it is light enough to not reduce recharge speed but strong enough to keep me alive between power recharging and when powers just don't help. I highly reccomend it.
*I understand that this shows a "perfect condition" setup, but my point is simply that SMGs are not "...plain bad." You can't just expect the gun to do all the work for you, you have to apply your own skill and judgement both in preparation and combat.

Use the hurricane on my soldier as an 'oh ****' weapon or for grinding down Banshees with. It is a never ending clip with proper adrenaline rush refills. With the two ammo mods it is more or less a fire hose of bullets that will never run dry.

As a power class player on Gold, Tempest X is the default short-range weapon for my adepts and engineers. When braced against cover, its' recoil is managable for long-range shooting and at short range recoil is a non-issue even if fired from free standing position.
Its only significant weakess is poor anti-armor capabilities (on Gold the armor damage reduction nullifies much of the Tempest's bite) - as a secondary I carry either a Phalanx X or Carnifex X with barrel and piercing mod for anti-armor work.

Hurricane has statistically the highest damage (if my memory works), but since it's a pain to acquire you're better off with either a Hornet or the under-appreciated Tempest.

I've actually been messing around with the SMGs for a while now and they're REALLY not bad.
The Tempest matches my old Avenger for performance leaves my AR slot open for another weapon. And with twice the rounds as my Avenger it's about twice as useful, TBH. Very solid choice, not much muzzle climb.
The Locust offers excellent range and control, but she's got a short clip. Combined with the light damage, expect to need a clip per kill unless you're a good headshot person.
The Geth SMG... I'll admit, it's a favorite, but it's the most quirky of the lot. 100 round clip but needs to wind up and the least damage of any of them. Its a lighter GPR basically.
The Shuriken and Hornet I tend to avoid simply because the burst fire throws off my flow. Don't have the Hurricane, but what I've seen suggests it's nearly as OP as the Reegar.
Note: All my reports here are based not on some precious data-sheet, but on actual use in our shared simulated combat environment. Data-sheets are helpful, but will only tell you so much. Hope this was helpful

I don't understand the people that complain about the Hornet's recoil. It's very manageable, just compensate for it by slowly moving your aim down as you fire (oh, and for the love of god fire from cover). If you use it on a Turian with stability bonuses, you can even line up consistent headshots with it, which makes it do surprisingly good damage. It's my favorite SMG.
The Tempest is also surprisingly solid; not the beast it was in ME2, but solid.
The Hurricane is, naturally, very good.
The Shuriken is a joke and should not be used as a reference point for all SMGs. It's always been terrible, even in ME2 (dear god it's painful to be stuck with that thing until you recruit Tali), and it always will be terrible.
