Heard Salarian Engineer was pretty good, might give it a whirl. As far as build though, assuming I'd be playing gold, what should I do?

you don't need to allocate too many points in decoy, first 3 levels are good enough. Just don't forget to decoy in gold. It's a squad saver.

Went full decoy with duration, shock thing, and shields. Works great and let's you hold choke points like a charm

I went full decoy with shock/explode, full energy drain specced for damage, full power/weight/shields and ignored incinerate and I do fine.

We have reached consensus.

The Salarian Engie is best used against the geth, I find they tend to go for the decoy more than other enemies. I have my engineer's decoy set up as R4: Duration R5: Shock and R6: Shields and duration. You could have a bit of variation on 4 and 5 but the explosion evolution doesn't activate that often.

Energy drain is a must, I have mine set up for Radius, Drain and Shield boost. It has a dual function in both quickly punching through common geth/ Nemesis shields, and for enhancing your survivability.

Incinerate is your choice, and can be set up for either power spam or ignoring it and going heavy. Personally I spam it alot and use Radius, recharge speed and armor damage.

The remaining points put poth passives at rank 4: Damage and capacity and Durability for fitness.

Sorry for the long post, this is my personal setup, and it never hurts to experiment for yourself, but in gold runs I usually use this in combination with a light AR/ Heavy Pistol ect.

Dont know what your smoking but decoy is amazing vs anything if they see it first

We do not smoke. We Overclock.
That is quite a good point, but I find with geth I can pull one out in plain sight and all the pyros/Primes pop straight onto it.
Hardly manage to get it to work with reapers though, even if it's out before the start of a wave.

Idk if they tweaked something but brutes/banshees have been ignoring my Decoys waaay more frequently.

I have max ED, I went Radius, Drain, and Shield Boost.

Decoy, I took Shields (I would change this to Duration if I respecced, as its very rare anything actually 'hits/kills' the Decoy. Many attacks just miss it completely). Shock, and then Shields&Duration.

Incinerate I went with Damage, Burning Damage, and Armor Damage. Radius wouldn't be bad, but you already have ED for an aoe interrupt on Geth so I figured more dmg vs. Primes would be better. You could do Radius if you wanted to handle groups of Pyro's/etc though. I like the Burning Damage, but I'm not sure if it applies while Shields are up, so it might not be as effective as it could be.

I took 5 in Salarian Operative, skipping the weapon damage perk (I do get quite a few pistol kills, but I figured 3 points in Fitness for the health/shield perk would be nice).

If it matters, I just played and completed my very first Gold match against Geth with 3 randoms (another Sal Eng and 2 Quar Infiltrators heh). None of us had mics, I used 3 missiles and 3 medi-gels, but we had a full extraction and I came in top on the scoreboard with 77k points, 75 kills, 50 assists.

Edit: For the post above me, Brutes can one-shot Decoy if they charge it, but I noticed in my Reaper matches Brutes/Banshees will also sometimes just sit and stare at it for the full duration. If you're playing Reapers though you definitely want max Incinerate and probably have better class choices to begin with >_>.

Yep, the Geth are retarded. They will go right after the Decoy. Primes and Pyros both. You can sit there and shoot them at your leisure. Seriously, 4 salarian Engineers with Decoy could farm Geth like nothing. It would be hilarious.

For burning damage, I believe it's 40% of Incinerates initial damage over 8 seconds. I could see it stacking up if attacking something like an atlas or a prime, but those jobs are probably best left to the infiltrators. For the post 2 above me,Last time I used it I believe it did affect shields.

Edit: I think 4 would be a bit overkill though. On FB White me, another S Engie and 2 salarian Infi's dominated. Sitting in the building with 1 Infi and engie at the top and the other 2 at the bottom. Tried it once, now it's me and my friend's preferred farming setup. Still doesn't change the fact packs are based on luck though. :(
