Then again, going by the timer, it should unlock by 1:00 p.m CST, not noon PST like people are saying. I hope that's true, cuz then I can just take a late lunch and get about 30 minutes in before I have to go back to work.

Games normally unlock around 12PM Valve time
No, not that valve time, silly.

With the L4D2 Demo countdown, they waited 30 minutes before midnite before removing the fact the demo is going to be delayed yet another 16 hours so they could milk even more pre-orders...
They been doing the same with all other releases, getting tons of last minute orders and scewing us managed and organized people. Anything on Steam is off my XMAS list.

Why do I have the feeling I am not the only one checking steam now and again just in case...?
Definitely not the only one. I've been checking every 15-30 minutes, even though I know its not going to happen. I finished my preload right when it released, but earlier today I got a popup saying my DA:O download had completed. Which of course turned out to be nothing but some spiteful little gremlin in the system toying with me. Sadness.

Even us steam fans hate steams timeframes.

I've never quite understood people's love of Valve or that filthy DRM encrusted app Steam to be honest. What I find even more humorous is when someone writes a long rant about DRM and how evil it is, then goes on to say "Thats why I use steam" which is about as DRM as you can get in the first place.
Following that Valve time line its no wonder it took them 11 years to get TF2 done and will prolly take them 11 years to get HL2 Episode 3 done. "Episodic content will take us less time to do!" Um sure it will Gabe, have another cheeseburger.

Excuse me, what?
When it comes to preorders, they get the same amount of money if people buy it before, or after release, unless there's a pre-order sale going on. In that case they would want to release the game sooner
Your tinfoil hat is silly, and illogical.

We love Valve because they make good games.
We love steam, because D2D is even more DRM ridden, Gamersgate and Gamershell have rather limited selections, we don't have to worry about broken discs, the community features, and the fact that it's just convenient. In addition, the DRM's people normally rant about are proven to mess with your computer in ways it should not, or has limited activations. It also doesn't take up much more in system resources than a simple instant messenger, which it has built in, and can be used while playing your games to boot.
Aside from the odd (stupid)publisher deciding they want third party DRM in addition to Steam, and offline modes (rare) pants ****ting moments, steam's no worse than a disk check.
Overrall, it's a much, much better system than it was when it launched. It was god **** terrible then.
I don't get why people who don't like it feel the need to say so everytime it comes up. It's not like you see a someone denouncing D2D everytime it comes up in conversation.

Can't say I noticed any DRM in the couple game's I've purchased from D2D, then again I'm one of those old fashioned, perfer to actually have the physical media type of people to begin with. Its not hard to put a game cd in a CD case to protect it honestly.
Having to rely on an outside the game aplication's servers to be up to play something I paid for also doesn't seem to be all that convienient to me but hey whatever floats your boat I guess. (And I realize Steam has an "offline" mode, though last I heard you had to practically jump through flaming hoops to get it to work in said mode)
Though I think the main reason that I dislike aps like steam is you're still paying full price for something you don't even get a physical copy of. I could have sworn one of the main "selling points" Gabe used to toss around was "Games will be cheaper!" mmmm hmm, right, certainly doesn't seem to be the case though.
I'm sure its far better now than at launch no doubt, still, I have zero desire to rely on it.

I hope to hell the code is ready when the game starts, I don't want to get an email code on the 4th after I've played 1/3 of the game already.
