I'm all for ensuring they keep to agreements with stores, and not unlocking at midnight etc. Have to wonder why the unlock for the UK is 6pm (some 9 hours after the stores are selling) though. Hopefully the timer is just wrong, and the UK unlock will be sometime in the morning/dinner at the latest. Only time I've used steam for a pre-order before I wasn't able to be in the UK until the evening, so not sure if this is a standard thing. Anyone from the UK pre-ordered from steam before? And when is the usual unlock time?
Steam unlock?

The Advantage of Digital Distribution is not that you get it before anyone else.
It is that if you should never lose your DVDs or lack access to it (since you can just download them).
Aside from that, it is about the same. Some stores even deliver to the buyer on the same day, others have mid-night releases. Both of which negates any time advantage for digital distribution.

I'm pretty sure they have an agreement to compete fairly with retail stores.
Actually in the UK at least it's not fair competition with high street retailers.
If I bought on the high street it would be in my hand by 9.10am and could be installed by 11am with me plaing it before 12pm.
I pre-ordered of steam so it will not be able to play until after 5pm, what combination of Valve, EA, retailers are to blame for this I neither know, nor care. It's simply the last time I will pre-order a new game from steam period, it doesn't make sense, it's slower than nipping down the shops on release day even if you pre-load.
I notice the count down timer has vanished on the UK steam store page, this is either incompetence because the US release has happened or maybe dare I hope they are reconsidering making UK gamers wait an extra 8 hours past the high street release.

Of course it does, they're ducks!krabman wrote...
I harbor a suspicion that the go to work make coffee, line up ducks, unlock theory may very well hold water.

I just checked steam, on my client, Dragon Age has gone from "Unreleased" to "Not Installed" (Work Computer).
So it should be unlocked now. Good luck on those who are lucky enough to play it.

Personally I have no issue with a 10am release, question is whether that can be tied to time zone. For instance, in the UK our unlock time is showing as 7pm, some 10 hours after the 9am opening of the shops. I've never pre-ordered from steam, and I'm assuming that unlock time is incorrect, anyone from the UK know the time steam usually unlock games in the UK?

I hate you Steam... I hate you so much.
Couldn't decrypt past 73%. Just stuck there.
So I redownload the entire thing.
16% and the download just decides to stop.
If I was Minsc I would punch the crap out of everything in sight right now.

Does any one have the Digital Deluxe version? Bergen's Honor and The Final Reason are not on the list of available DLCs to purchase, nor was there a code provided! Is this false advertising?

I am bit alarmed at all the validation issues im seeing from steam users. Combined with the late releases for the UK which is annoying in the extreme, i am wondering if going the steam route might have been a big mistake.

Luckily you guys have a few days for STEAM to clear out the kinks. I remember Bioshock didn't run on 64bit OSes on steam in day one and everyone was crying foul until they released a patch the day after.

so 11:25 +12 = 23:25
so it will be out about 11:30pm on the 6th on steam, as I say allow for unencryption and installation and you won't be playing before the 7th. Technically they can still get away with staying it's released on the 6th but its shoddy to say the least.
