I'm also curious about the stone temple with the human face. Predators I can see buidling such a thing since it's been established that they have a culture and social dynamic within their species. Aliens have been treated as little more than animals.

Yep, very intriguing why they would have a statue resembling a human face.

Also interesting that there were visits by ancient "not-saying-it-was-aliens....but-it-was-aliens" in Earth's distant past.

Well clearly it has something to do with the enigmatic "Space Jockeys" and that observation chair from the trailer and the first movie. I mean it's not like Aliens were intelligent enough to create a society like the Predators, so those temples we've seen have to have come from someone or somewhere else. I have to watch Weaver's movies again to see if there's anything in the movies that explains it further.

Are you sure about that?

On those ancient artifacts it looked like they had traveled to Earth in the past and were treated as gods.

Surely they must have mastered interstellar travel and be knowledgeable enough about Earth's constellations to be able to show us humans where to go for the buffet.

Hmm... I think I'm assuming too much based on their appearance and behavior. See Predators use weapons, technology, they make and keep trophies, traps and hunt like humans do. They even have rites of passage and different levels  of office in their society. Aliens seemed to react more like animals. They're somewhere or brought somewhere, and disturbed so they attack. Their bodies also look so inhuman that it's hard to imagine them making things and piloting ships. I hope all this stuff gets answered, but I'm afraid Aliens might be reduced to some other creature's blood hounds. I hope that isn't the case and thier explination is more interesting than that.

I'm certain the Xenomorphs are intelligent, they're just more alien to us than the Predators. Predators are actually pretty human in their behaviour, and even though they're more advanced than us, they seem to be simillar somewhat to when humans were more primative.

Anyway, after the terrible AVP movies I think we should try and keep the Xenomorpths and Predators as far away from each other as possible,

I cant wait for this movie!

Spoilers...

Scott officially stated the Xenomorphs as we know them from Alien & sequels will NOT appear in Prometheus. That's pretty much the one thing we know for certain about the flick. Scott said in an interview that he felt the monster, while great, has been overused and lost its impact.

Although the movie takes place in the same universe, will explain the xenomorphs' origins and will feature creepy human-hunting monsters.

But there was something similar to a xeno at the end of the trailer, atleast judging by the lower body. Still, I like the new worm-parasite thingies.

The xenomorph aliens were on the order of beasts. Clever, cunnings beasts who learned quickly and adapted to their surroundings, but still beasts. They never mastered any sort of technology or space travel. The original derelict ship their eggs were found on in the 1979 film was piloted by a different being (often referred to as the Space Jockey). If you recall, Ripley mentions to Ash in the movie that their on-ship computer managed to translate part of the original distress signal that made them land on the planetoid and that it was actually a warning instead of a distress call, hence the Space Jockey warning other space-farers about its ship's dangerous cargo.

I hope it doesn't go into too much detail explaining the xenomorph origins though, I'm always afraid of another case of the midi-chlorians ruining the mystique. I tend to like them as is, no real explanation other than that they are an abomination that exists. The unknown and mysterious is more frightening and dark, I say!

Also as an amusing side note, the first Alien film takes place in the Zeta Reticuli binary star system, less than 40 light years away from the sun. For a sense of scale, if the Milky Way galaxy was reduced to a mile in diameter then the star system is only about two feet away from Earth. Zeta Reticuli also entered popular culture in the 60s when Betty and Barney Hill claimed to have been abducted by aliens in a UFO from the Zeta Reticuli system. Neat!

See, I figured as much. I have the director's cut the released in the 80's, and I remember that there was no explanation other than them being beasts. Which begs the question, who's their masters? Who's responsible for the Temples? Who are the Space Jockeys? Who's been contacting the humans over time? Why is there a human face in their temple?

Very Excited for this.

Can't wait for this... There's been a huge shortage of good science fiction films lately.

Color me demystified:(
Since forever, I have thought Bishop actually  says " Cyberdyne Systems" , which would have been a very obvious connection with devs of largely succesfull cyborg line we know as Terminators.
But yeaaah, rather than being something that in some subtle fashion ties the two worlds together, it was a mere easter egg then after all.BAH. Apparently Cameron originally did have creating a bit of a connection in mind but had it switched at last moment, fearing some sort of legal hazzle from one direction or another.

Btw, it is very interesting watching Director's Cuts of  Aliens and Terminator 2 back to back. Virtually every single finished scene that ended up being cut from theater version of Aliens found a new home in Terminator 2.
I'm speaking of things like way a given scene is constructed, camera angles, how and where camera and actors move in relation to one another..sometimes even dialogue. It's very uncanny.

David looks and sounds quite a bit like David Bowie. Then again I see David Bowie in most places.
I'm loving their virals.

Alien  has been violated for long enough, this movie needs  to be good.

I think I'm one of the few poeple that actually liked Alien3, but Prometheus is looking like it will be good. Saw the trailer at the theater this past weekend and I'm pretty stoked for the movie. I'm liking the cast too, so that certainly helps.

Oh I says it is more than just few, specially since most people who like watching these movies have seen the director's cut by now. I always considered the theater version pretty dysfunctional but visually impressive flick. Plus the whole" rapist monks getting eaten by space demon" thing made a ballsy and fun enough move thematically. Director's cut fixes most of the dysfunctional parts well enough and makes it a very good movie in traditional and literal sense of the definition!

I had Alien 4 and those insulting AvP movies in mind when speaking of violation:l
(ALIEN vs PREDATOR..seriously..how is it possible to **** this concept up so badlyin two so different ways)

Looking forward to it, and actually excited about all the new material coming out for this franchise. "Franchise" doesn't even fit the concept.

What I'm not looking forward to, is having yet more concerns about the grimness of space exploration.
