Just watched it. I won't reveal anything about the plot except for the fact that there sure are some annoying plotholes. Overall I thought it was a really good movie though. Most of all I guess I liked Noomi Rapace and Michael Fassbender. Both did a great job.

Great visuals. I just hope this movie is more than a rehash of Alien.

I wouldn't call it that.

Rehash of Alien? Not in the least. It's set in the same universe, but not really the same.

Just watched, cannot remember the last time i have felt so disappointed in a film. This film was garbage.

- Characters you really don't care about, not interesting with no connection to audience, Meredith Vickers was supposed to be the "evil ship commander" but you end up apathetic to all of them. There's a corny revelation that you see coming a mile off.

- Theme's of the film were so muddled and un-focussed. A quick glance of religion and "mans" place in the universe. The latter of which the film doesn't even attempt to answer.

- Plot was ridiculously boring and unoriginal. and could have been squashed into 60 mins and should have been. The alien impregnation and the "corporate drone" were straight rips from Alien. At one point in the film after being in hyper-sleep for 3 years the crew members ask "So why are we here".....come on, worst exposition line i've heard....a crew member doesn't sign 6 years of their life away without any idea of why they are signing onto the mission.

Overall the film even without being linked with Alien is a total snorefest. And this is from an Alien fanboy! I'd usually think i misunderstood the film but the plot is so flat and one dimensional that it's impossible for me to think this is the case

Ignore the reviews on RT because they are complete tripe, clearly smokin' on Ridley's rod. I'm telling you, the character's in this film are completely drab and flat....apart from Noomi Rapace who did a decent job

EDIT: Visuals were awesome though

So the movie's bad, huh? Still get to see Rapace in white underwear covered in blood. That's worth ten bucks.

One thing I'm curious about, are they actually going to see any Aliens? I doubt it, since in the first one only Ripley knew they existed at all.

I could be wrong but it looked like Noomi was already infected with a chest burster in the shot where she was getting sick in front of a mirror.

Also, how would they know that they made a big mistake in visiting their homeworld unless they realized there were Aliens present with bad intentions.

I'm more than certain a few people will get affected. In the trailer one of them has acid seeping out of their helmets, and someone is seen with some disfiguration to their face attacking one of the researchers. if their keeping the lore in tact, they can't make it back to Earth and tell them about the Aliens. I'm also curious about the stone temple with the human face. Predators I can see buidling such a thing since it's been established that they have a culture and social dynamic within their species. Aliens have been treated as little more than animals.

I'm just too excited to see this thing already.

Pretty sure that it is not aliens. I think it is some kind of artificial disease type thing made to kill/alter/infect humans once they were advanced enough to find/reach the ship. I don't think that there are predators in this movie either...

Hmmmm. It's got a 9.0 on imdb. Only around 1,000 reviews so far. Still, it's something.

It's a movie after all. There's a limited amount of ground it can cover. I'm not expecting as deep a story as I have read in books or watched over the years on tv. I'll enjoy it for what it is.

I never judge my results of film relative to TV and Books, i don't know why anyone would. Relative to other films the plot covers little ground, heavily clichéd, suspenseless, and generally flat. The only enjoyment i got from this film was the visuals which were pretty awesome often (unfortunately i had to watch in 3D).

I do however hope the majority who were excited to see this film genuinely enjoy the film. I didn't, just my opinion. Following critics for me is a big no-no, most are wrong on about 50% of things. but again that's personal preference

Like I said, it has plot holes and that's a bit of a shame. But I still think it's good.

Maybe it's because I didn't expect some sort of masterpiece. You generally get disappointed that way.

When you talk about the plot and compare it to other movies, I wish I knew which ones you mean, because I watch a lot of them, and they are usually a lot worse.

That's the difference I think. I wasn't expecting anything special. I didn't get anything special either. I was entertained for the duration of the movie. Very few movies really get beyond that point with me, but that's alright.

I wasn't comparing, i was stating that my reviewing of the film was done so in the normal framework of cinema understanding as a whole. The narrative was weak, so was the script, and most of the characters....but i guess i should've seen that coming with Damon Lindelof wrting it. There's no doubt Ridley knows how to direct a scene but that was the only saving grace, the plot was thin, the movie didn't have an identity, it seemed it wasn't sure if it wanted to ask questions of man's existence or be the typical "lets put the aliens" thriller, it ended up achieving neither, confused in a way. Compared to Ridley's other sci-fi work such as ALien and Blade Runner it is very underwhelming.

Perhaps i was expecting too much, alas i left unsatisfied, i am glad you enjoyed though.

It's hard to make another Bladerunner or Alien. I'm sure the movie's just fine, but people expect a lot from a household name. Think about how people would react if Christopher Nolan decided to do a romance drama with George Clooney and Julianne Moore.

...he wouldn't. And i'm sure you cannot comment on such things if you have not seen it. Another Blade Runner or Alien was not expected, like i said earlier without comparing those it's still weak. If you're the type of person who likes Transformers you may like this

I was due to go tonight but after hearing from mates who saw it this afternoon I think I'll save my money. The general opinion seems to be that its a boring film latching on to the Alien name for publicity that asks more questions than it answers.

I think he has the aptitude for it, combine that with the fact that he's burned out on superhero movies, it's not inconceivable. The thing with being a big name producer or director, people expect more from them. This clouds their judgement sometimes and undermines their work because they expect more from it than they would from anyone else.

Thing with Ridley is that he seems to pick a lot of crappy scripts nowadays. His command of the camera is still as masterful as ever, and his direction of the actors in Prometheus also seem to have been spot on. Purely cinematically, it's masterfully executed.

But, the script... It's pretty bad. Goes off in way too many directions without handling all the threads in a good manner. It could've used a lot of trimming down and focusing. Monster design is also disappointing unfortunately.

Again, I think Ridley is fantastic as a director and has all the potential to create great films still, *if* he picks the right scripts. American Gangster for example was pretty much out of left field for him when considering what he's done earlier, and it is in my opinion a real masterpiece. And it has a very good script.

Prometheus is what I would call an alright film, excels in some areas (good acting, visually great, and for once a pretty good and non-gimmicky use of 3D) and fails in others (again, script...). But, when one goes in to see with Alien in mind (and while they are different, they are definitely connected in a pretty strong manner) is becomes pretty disappointing.

Indeed it has everything to do with expectations.

I went there with two other people. The two of us expected basically nothing, and we thought it was OK. The third was a major Alien fan and didn't like it.

I thought it was amazing and that anyone who complained expects too much, he has another two "Prometheus'" to go so, it's not finished.

Yeah, I don't give a damn about critics either. But the 9.0 is from user reviews (which I trust). Still it's probably biased right now since only a small selection has seen it. I'll find out soon enough.
