When i hit the "Create an expotable area" button and do stuff  like define the boundaries, set the minimap, create the layout name I get this error, not sure why, I only used legal characters a.k.a I called it "wild"

E: 21:45:44 - Layout Name Invalid: Area Layout Name must not contain any of the following characters:
\\/:*?"| Area Layout Name must be 1 to 7 characters long. Area Layout Name must use only valid game resource characters.

Area layout is the level file the area is using. A blank area defaults to something like
< Layout Name >
, which violates the rules. You have to either clear it, making a blank area, or assign an exported level layout (or one you will export i guess).

I followed the same steps you did, and didn't get any errors.

You must press the button +, which is on the top- That will popup a window with the level properties where you MUST assign a name for the area layout you're going to export, also be sure to set the starting point for the walkmesh pathfinding and that is set correctly to the area you want to export.

Tell you that because working with many different instances of the same level can make you a mess.

After making a level, one of the first things you should do is create an exportable area (that plus sign symbol on the tool bar) and give it a name, even before molding the terrain. This does not create an area yet, but sets the parameters for when you want to post your level as an area layout (.arl), which will be accessible when you start working on an area. The exportable area name need not be the same as the level name, particularly if you are going to have more than one exportable area from that level.

level (.lvl) ---> one or more area layouts (.arl, i.e. "baked" level with pathfinding and lightmapping set) ---> area (.are)

Yeah, it's totally confusing, but you'll get used to it.
