Do the gifts you purchase at Huerta Memorial Hospital actually do anything?

(I'm talking about the Flowers, Box of Chocolates, etc.)

I assumed you give them to your squadmates or something (or LI?), but I haven't been able to use them at all, nor have I seen them ever since I purchased them

You can give them to the vermire survivor when they wake up in the hospital.

You give them to Ashley/Kaidan when they are in the hospital. You give them to him/her when they wake up, and it basically helps you achieve a romance with them.

Like everything else in the game - they don't matter.

Although, I bought the gifts, and in one scene with Ash, Shepard says, "I got this for you", and hands her a book or something... although it's never said if it's something from the gift terminal, or something else.

I have no idea about the Flowers and Chocolates and stuff. I know you give the Book from Tennyson to Ashley, and there's a bottle of rum you can give to Kaidan.

The only book you can give Ash is the Tennyson one. All of the other gifts do nothing.

I think you only have the option to pick up liquor for Kaidan.

I mean I presumed the Tennyson was for Ash, but all the other stuff I thought would be gifts for other squad mates...apparently I wasted a lot of creds.

I gave a bottle of whiskey to Kaidan in the hospital that I bought from the terminal. I assumed later it was the same whiskey you two drink if you continued the romance until the end.

However, I only had the whiskey show up. Well that and the medi-gel upgrades. Thats it.

Kaidan only has one gift - for Ashley, you have to choose the right gift to get maximum 'trust' for her. Get the book of poetry, which is a reference to Mass Effect 1.

You give one of them to Ashley the second time you visit her (once she wakes up). Someone said in another thread that they thought it was the last one you purchased, assuming you bought a bunch of them. Once that scene plays out, the gifts disappear from the shop.

I bought the flowers and one of the books, but didn't have any option to give them to anybody, including Ashley.

I was kind of hoping I could put the flowers and chocolate in Ash's room while she was still unconscious. When that didnt happen I thought, "Well maybe I can go put them in her quarters in the Normandy. No?" After that I realised I had wasted my creds.


At least one of the gifts were useful.

I like how the gifts change if its kaiden in the hospital he gets drinks if its ash its poems, chocolate, and flowers. I think it may change if she becomes a spector or not I'm going to give her a new item and see if she likes it more I bought her the collection of poems at the end of the list she became a spector.

No, you give her the book from Tennyson, as she enjoys poetry.  In the first mass effect game, I believe she outes Ulysses or some Whitman poem.

As soon as you buy them and give one to the VS they disapear from the game.

I thought the gifts were rather nice. Seeing as my shep only saved Ashley, I only know the significance of her gifts. You give her a book by Lord Alfred Tennyson, might be "In memoriam", as I believe she quotes him in the first game, or Whitman, or some other famous poem. Rather apropos for the situation if you ask me..

The bottle you automatically give to Kaidan when he's in the hospital bed when he wakes up, if you bought it before then.

Key word here, is that it's automatic, you don't actually have an option to give it, it just happenes if you get it before the scene you're meant to give it in.

VS = Virmire Survivor. The chocolates should definitely have been for Tali/Garrus but I couldn't find the scene where they get it.

I bought Ashley flowers and Shephard still gave her the book as a present.

Why is there even a -ing choice here then?? For Kaidan the only option is whiskey.
