 What does it mean for the reapers to harvest organics. Does it place all personalities in a virtual "heaven" so they can carry on thus clearing room for more organics to have their turn at life?

I would assume this would make sense because this would maximize the "living space" out of the galaxy. If all intelligent life continues unopposed it might halt the advancement of other species.

Or do the lives harvested become part of the "reaper personality" giving it the advantages of the diverse races?
this would be hard to believe because the reaper would basically be assimilating individuals opposed to the reapers existence
