How "replayable" is this game

I always complete an rpg and never play thru it a 2nd time. However this may be the game that has me playing thru it a 2nd time. Is there a ton of replayabilty in this game?

I know there are 6 different origins to start from but after the short 1-2 hour origin starts does the game become the same quest, story line and plot lines?

Why do people play thru an RPG a 2nd time? Generally the story is the same with some minor side plot changes, so why do people do it?

Is it best to play the 6 different origins right after each other and and then proceed to the main game? Will this give me a better feel for the different perspectives thru the game?

This will be one of the most replayable games ever. Each of the 6 origin stories alters the entire game. And there are several different endings depending on your actions.

not to mention 3 races and 3 classes as well as multiple specialization combinations.

Not to mention that your characters can carry over into the next play though, like Mass Effect.
Ahh, it appears I was mistaken!

Over all, definitely looking like it's going to be one of the most replayable RPG's of all time.

Also Not to mention that the modding community will hopefully be as good as the Neverwinter Nights one was, which gives the game an infinite amount of content.

Your choice of race, origin and to a somewhat lesser extent class sometimes drastically affects how people will react to you throughout the game. Gender can have some small influence too. Of course the main storyline will be the same. The details won't necessarily be. That doesn't even cover resolving situations differently. Like picking something else on the "good vs evil" scale.

Companions also alter gameplay significantly. There are 9 and you can only take 3 with you at a time. They have lots of dialogue and will act differently with each other and also react to events in the game. You can interact with the ones you leave at the camp too, but unlike KOTOR or ME, you won't get everything they have to say. Maybe you don't even get enough influence to hear all of their personal stories.

No, your character doesn't carry over into the next playthrough like Mass Effect. There is no New Game Plus with Dragon Age: Origins.

I do agree, however, that this is going to be a very replayable game by the looks of it.

"Um. No." what exactly?

There is little point is disagrement if you don't actually say anything while you do it.

*edit*

Oh, there isn't a New Game + option? I could have sworn I had read that there was somewhere. Oh well, I don't think it will make any major impact in this game's replayability, as it already has so much going for it.

Even without a New Game+ it really doesn't matter.

The fact that there is no level cap in the game means that as long as the community produces adventures for level 20+ (which is around the time the main game ends), then we can keep playing with the same heroes.

Wrong.  No New Game+.

This game, regardless of New Game+ is going to be very replayable.  At the very least I will play it six times in close succession, and then I will play one or two male characters to see Zevran's romance and Morrigan's... maybe even more after than but probably more spaced out.  Plus there is DLC planned for the next two years, and community mods.

I'm sorry.  I thought it was obvious since there was only one thing in your post that was totally made up and based on nothing at all.  That being that you can not use your character in additional play-throughs.

I'll give you ideas on how I replay a game.

1.  Doing different origins is one thing, though they have stated that once you get past the tower they merge together.
2.  Bring different party members for each origin and ONLY use them.
3.  Try using Coersion one playthrough and THreats the next (based off CUnning and STR IIRC)

I really wish there was a game like the old "So You Want to be A Hero" series.  IT was literally 3 different games in one.  THe mage, thief, and warrior all had the same game but all had to go about things differently.

Dont forget you can SOLO the whole game, if you feel the need for a serious challenge.

That is true, they say you can Solo it.

I must admit, I'm curious who the first person is going to be to solo the whole game on Nightmare.

GET THOSE KIDS OFF MY LAWN!

Oh yeah... probably about as replayable as a game can get.

If the exp scales with number of party members you currently have (like in the Neverwinter Nights series) then it might be perfectly doable to solo the game because you will get 4x the exp solo than you would with 4 total party members (including yourself).

However if the exp is the same whether you are using 1 party member or 4 (Mass Effect style), then you are at a severe disadvantage and it will be difficult

And we are talking about on easy/(normal maybe, big maybe) Nightmare with "NO MODS" will prolly be **** near impossiable.

If the re-playability was anything like it was in KOTOR 2, which I played through 7 times with each and every time did many things change throughout the game, I always saw something new that I didn't see in the previous ones.

This is going to be a game where if you only play it once, there will be a lot of content that you will miss out on.

Besides the effects of origins in the game (while not drastic, they do affect various interactions your have throughout the game), there are other replayability considerations:

1. The combination of followers you take with you. Different combinations will comment on different things, and their banter will change depending on who else you've got in your party. Morrigan and Dog's interactions with each other will be very different than Morrigan and Alistair's, for example, and even different from Leliana and Dog's.

2. There are sometimes very different ways to complete quests, so you might want to try "the other way" on a subsequent playthrough. These can be quite significantly different.

3. Further on follower interaction, you might want to try angering some of your followers some time, or try to make them your best friend, irrespective of a romance.

4. There are a lot of little things that are hard to find in the game, from side quests to items to certain NPCs to little bits of interesting lore. I doubt it's possible to find everything in a single playthrough.

5. We've mentioned random encounters before. Some of them are very rare and hard to get to, indeed.

6. Forget about origin stories! There are some interactions that depend on gender or class!

Replayability? Heck yeah! I was on the project for two years and there was stuff I wasn't able to see!

Nobody will be able to solo it on nightmare, i would believe, at least not without cheats or a trainer. Nightmare, according to the devs, has been made murderously hard.
