Greetings Mass Effect Compatriots,
My usual online nickname is Jinkguns or Jink; if you prefer the short form. I was a casual fan of Mass Effect until
Monday when I joined the ranks of those who "completed" Mass Effect 3. The character development, the background and the story of the Mass Effect universe is something that I have grown to really care for. Frankly the endings were a huge disappointment to me and I believe was not originally BioWare's intended ending, as the recent articles on the ME1 & ME2 production outlines prior to the plot leak suggest.
What I'd like to do, in a very humble capacity, is to request a conversation regarding an overall strategy. An organized response. If this conversation is taking place elsewhere, than I sincerely apologize and request to be pointed to that thread, IRC channel or voice chat server. While I may have simply allowed my anger and disappointment to subside, and returned to my every day life, this community has inspired me to go a little further and fight for a better tomorrow. I have been inspired by your petitions, the Child's Play fund raising program (nearly $12,000 so far!) and the countless comments being posted in response to Mass Effect 3 articles across the internet.
In my opinion, while there may be many who liked the original endings, I believe the vast majority of us would like BioWare to issue a patch or DLC to replace them. I have seen many different rewrites from the community that were factors better than the endings presented to us in the gold (1.00) version. I also believe that BioWare had an original set of endings in mind, and that due to various factors, including potentially publisher deadlines, they were forced to abandon the endings that Mass Effect, the fans and the characters truly deserve. The Mass Effect cannon galaxy as it stands lay in rubble and what remains are the broken dreams of the many characters we've become attached to.
The relays are nothing more than atomized clouds. The Normandy is MIA. Shepard is supposedly KIA, Anderson is KIA, two others of the Normandy's squad is assumed KIA, potentially the debris of the Citadel rains down an apocalypse on what remains of the Earth. The survivors of the mighty fleets of the Alliance, the Krogan, the Geth, the Quarians, the Asari and the Salarians are stranded.
The home-worlds whose economies and agriculture have been obliterated are cut off from the surviving colony worlds so desperately needed to feed, clothe and rebuild. The technology base and infrastructure at the heart of the current cycle is on the edge of collapse. Is this what we fought for? Is this what our companions sacrificed for? Is this what we intended for our loved ones? No.
Shepard taught us that a small group of people can overcome the improbable odds, that we can change destiny itself and we can set our differences aside for the common good. Not just for ourselves but for those to come in the following weeks and for our children whom we may one day share this great story! This is the heart of Mass Effect.
BioWare has put together an amazing game. They've created amazing characters. Sure, they've made small mistakes here and there, made decisions that some of us don't agree with, but all in all, Mass Effect is an amazing experience. It is something worth fighting for? Yes!
You've shown me that I am not alone!
There are many more serious problems out there worth fighting for; the hungry, the homeless, the victims of warfare and corruption, but where do we start? Hope. Without hope we have nothing. Hope comes from many different places; family, friends, the kindness of strangers... and the stories we pass down.
Stories that span our entire history. Shephard is one of Homers, our Hercules, this is how we express our ideals, and through games, through the manifestation of the dreams of the writers, the artists, the fans, the sweat of the QA testers, the marketers and the financiers we can experience that story. This is about fighting to secure a little piece of that story... our legacy.
Is it silly to invest so much time and energy into something like this? No. Not at all. We save a little bit of ourselves. We save a little bit of BioWare and EA. And somewhere, a misfortune child gets a Christmas present and gets to play in the same Mass Effect universe; gets to be the hero of the galaxy if even only for a little while and won't be disappointed by the ending. If that happens we've done our job.
We've become our Shepard, and maybe we take what we've learned, how to organize, how to fight, the friendships we make along the way and we move on to address problems the greater problems facing civilization in this century. Our century.
How do we do this?
Friends, in my opinion we need to transform our confusion, our anger and our disappointment into a constructive force. We must work together with BioWare and EA. We must develop friendships to the video Gaming News & Review Industry. Lets build a framework to save Mass Effect, to increase the reputation of gamers around the world, to generate publicity for the franchise, give BioWare a shot to tell the final chapter of Shepard that they really wanted to tell and lets build a business case to present to Electronic Arts. We may have to make
sacrifices. Shepard taught us that.
Electronic Arts and BioWare are not the enemies. Rage, hatred and personal attacks will not resolve this situation. Forcing their backs to the wall to protect their livelihood and art will not build a stronger community. They are the creators. As the fans and the players, we also are equal partners, we have a say. We fund Electronic Arts & BioWare. In return they share their blood, sweat and tears to craft a story that gives us entertainment and makes our day a little brighter.
It seems from the various petitions that we've begun to have a conscientious around our goals:

How do we attain them?
* Build relationships with EA, BioWare & The Video Game News & Review Industry
- We bring individuals, one by one to our side,
- Presenting well thought out, respectful commentary & dialogue that the majority of the community can agree with
- Calm upset Mass Effect 3 players down, they should know they are not alone and a plan is in the works
* Present the solution as BioWare's & Electronic Art's solution
- An "update" was always in their plan, we are just generating attention!
Allow me to show you the results of a discussion in the comments of a Mass Effect 3 article that I had with Michael Futter, Managing Editor of RipTen. Mr. Futter has not been supportive of our cause but through respectful and mature dialogue was open to listening and discussing some of our points. I believe I was able to counter his response fairly well a following reply. (My real name in the comments is Brandon F.)

One day Mass Effect 3 Ver. 1.00 will simply be the result of a concussion or marketing strategy. We can win this!
What are your thoughts? Your ideas? Lets create a strategy and move forward! Time is on our side. Today marks only 7 days from the release of the game! More join our ranks every day!
Good Hunting.

There's a ton in this post, I don't believe there's any sort of concerted effort to develop a unified strategy, in fact we were specifically warned away from electing leaders or anything like that in the PR thread by atghunter. It gives EA/BW a target to tear down instead of facing the uniform masses.
I'm not sure how you propose to create a strategy. Will you aggregate what people say in this thread into some sort of master list? We may have issues actually unifying on a solid core of ideas, because there is a lot of varied wants from the movement. Some just want more explanation, some, like me, want endings that actually take your choices into account, and have a more broad spectrum.
Also, just a side note, that guy on RipTen REALLY seems to want games to be considered art. I would really just like to be entertained by them and not have my heart broken.
