FYI: RPG's that I think are great. The Gothic series despite the bugs. Demon's Souls. The king's Field series on the PS (especially the Ancient City). Final Fanatasy. Oblivion. Bioshock. Mass Effect. Dungeon Siege. Diablo. Resident Evil. Darkstone. Rune.

All of which I have played more than once and will probably play again.

Dragon Age isn't even in the same planet as these, let alone the ball park.

Gothic series?  CRAP.
Demon's Soul?  Is that even a RPG?
King's Field?  CRAP!
Final Fantasy?  CRAP!
Oblivion?  Average at best.
Bioshock?  NOT A RPG!
Mass Effect?  That is a good game.
Dungeon Siege?  CRAP!
Diablo?  CRAP!
Resident Evil?  Not a RPG.
Darkstone?  CRAP!
Rune?  CRAP!

Considiering that most of the games you listed are CRAP! I am glad that Dragon Age is nothing like them.

Basically, you only like Bioware games?

I vehemently disagree with the idea that all of those games are "CRAP!", but very few of them pass as pure-genre RPGs, and some are completely devoid even of RP elements.

While I loved Kings Field I would hardly say it was a great rpg....you were speaking of combat and this game had pretty terrible combat. All you did the entire game was swing the sword and the moment you swung you walked backwards to avoid the attack.....FOR EVERY SINGLE MONSTER. Liked Oblivion, but it got boring and repetitive later on. I would gain levels and had a harder time fighting enemies that were easier before! Combat was way better than Morrowind but still pretty lackluster......Never played Mass Effect. Plan to soon. Final Fantasy is always a great series. Diablo I would really have to disagree with. While a classic rpg it once again had an extremely over simplified combat. You just click on enemies over and over and over. The story seemed much too far in the background for an rpg. I have no idea why Resident Evil is up on this list since its not an rpg but a survival horror.....the recent installments turned it into an action game though. Havent played the others either. I'm still not sure why you placed the combat as part of your reasoning of it being a bad game. I would say thats one of the best parts of the game. Not sure why the moving from one location to another is a downside either. The game already clocks out to 60+ hours. Why would we need to extend this further? Get used to the dlc crap. I dont know where you have been in the last 2 years but this is pretty much the norm now. People were excited about the fact that DLC was available upon purchase of the game. However, if it was available upon purchase that means they have already coded it and it was readily available. Why wasnt it in the game? To make an extra buck. Sadly, this is how must games operate these days. Still, I love the game and will support any dlc that comes out from here on out.

Wow, this troll got 13 pages of responses. And I am now contributing...ugh.

The game never once "stopped" me and offered me additional content. I think it is better that they put a character in the game to mention the DLC to me rather than a pop-up every time I start the game. I feel like I got what I paid for and then some out of Dragon Age vanilla so the DLC is ok by me.

I also like Obsidian games as well. It doesn't matter to me who made a game. What matters to me is if the game is fun to play. Oblivion was fun to play on the console, but was not on the PC. Mass Effect was fun to play on both the PC and console. The other games were CRAP! because they were just not fun to play. Especially the Gothic series. If its not fun then its CRAP!

You have a very narrow taste, in that case. But, to each his own and so forth. Besides Final Fantasy, which I've never been able to get along with (but many others do, so there you go), I found ever game on that list fun.

That, however, doesn't make them RPGs, so on what grounds he bases the comparison between them and Dragon Age remains somewhat unclear. Unless, of course, he just doesn't find Dragon Age fun, which in turn would make it CRAP! in his eyes.

LOL... Gothic is better than Oblivion anyday! Perhaps you didn't like that you had to actually choose a faction and live with it... since you could not be the master of every single faction at the same time, like TES3 and 4... that is crap!

And you know, I've been here since before there was any reply to this thread and I refrained myself from being the first feeder but I think the OP guy actually like the game.

He just wanted to start a troll war. If you read all from beginning you may notice that too. And he is prolly a much better troll than a DA player thus he enjoyed every little bit of this... with his car, bike, jetairplane, personal rock&roll bank... and Winehouse for girlfriend...

Just to let all the losers know that I drive a 50,000 dollar car,  (as well as a 20,000 dollar bike) yes very sad indeed lol. What is truly sad is the intelligent responses and the fact that everyone has so little experience with rpg's that they think this game is good (not to mention so little experience with the english language)

Alright puppies time for a lesson. This person is, quite obviously, very young not too far past suckling on Ma's "fun place". Posts from pre-pubescents, to me, just scream out of the screen either that or this individual has suffers from some form of mental disability.

Lets look as some points raised. He states the gamers here are to young to know what RPG's are based on a "world map" system. Now correct me if I'm wrong, but my earliest RPG's (Console/PC) never had a overview world anyway and I have been playing for quite some time now. Then goes on to boast about his/hers/it's material goods, now, no body does this, not in any kind of seriousness, only a child/teenager does this kind of thing and it's never true as the majority of mature people don't really talk about what they own or how much money they have due to pesky social rules and norms.

You/it state language proficiency. Now... the posts you have "written" ( I say that in the loosest terms of the word) are that I would expect to see from someone at low GCSE level, its rather awful to say the least.

Pleas vent elsewhere as Bioware have been making top, award winning games for quite sometime now. People, Troll fuel is bad.

I wonder what sort of personality disorder one must suffer from to feel compelled to brag about one's car (whether real or not) on a CRPG message board.

The same one that causes any of us to be here at all.

Interesting diagnosis, but I'm fairly certain the mental health community has not recognized being a nerd as a mental disorder quite yet. Maybe it will make it into the DSM V.

I'm hoping that the new manual will include diagnostic criteria for a hybrid (using Million's descriptors) infantile-disingenuous histrionic personality disorder. It would be nice for the psychiatric community to finally recognize chronic trollism and provide helpful therapeutic and pharmacological solutions. The common folk remedy of using flames to purge the disease unfortunately only aggravates the problem. As a proponent of better living through biochemistry, I'm hopeful that researchers will discover some sort of drug regimen to help sufferers control their disruptive posting habits.

Some days, though, I think trolls really just need frontal lobotomies accompanied by shock therapy.

BAH!, archaic practices. Lets just try something new and highly unethical?, I propose limbic system removal. Job done.

I just have to ask ... If the OP dislikes the game so much and apparently doesn't care for other's opinions, then why post here at all? I mean, he seems to be relatively smart, one would think he would realize posting such comments on a forum like this would engender such negative responses. I can only conclude that that is exactly what he was going for, and despite his protestations to the contrary, he is indeed a "troll". No other explanation is feasible.

This is the worst RPG I have played in a while, since one I played a couple years ago which is virtually identical (and never finished because it sucked too). None of the reviews mention the fact that this game uses the totally unfun system of not actually traveling in the world but clicking on a location on the map and traveling there automatically with a stop in the middle when you are attacked. The big difference in this game is that it uses this method to stop you everywhere and try and sell you more content. I am sorry, but when I buy a game I expect to get the whole game with the admission price, call me crazy. Then add to that that the combat systems sucks and the quest system doesn't work and 95% of the game is listenening to conversation. Most quests give you absolutely no idea where to go. Some say go to the place marked on the map but there isn't a place marked on the map. some quests have mini-map pointers which works but most don't, even in a city. Worse, the places on the map aren't named the same as the quest so it's impossible to find anything except by trial and error. Mostly I am mad because reviews don't actually tell you anything about a game or gameplay so i wasted my money on this steaming heap and I don't even get a complete or working game. I have been playing rpg's since before most of you were born and this kind of rpg wouldn't even rate a 1 on a scale of 10. It is incomplete, unplayable and it sucks. It wouldn't be so bad if the quest system worked and the combat system didn't suck but if they did this kind of game isn't fun.

That's odd, my quests aren't bugging if I don't have to check out the codex to see the details O.o"

i think thats what they meant, meaning they are crap as far as being an rpg goes.
several of those games are very enjoyable, in their own right, but if you try to put them in the same catagory as pure rpgs, like dragon age, then yes, they do seem like a steaming pile in comparison.
