FYI: RPG's that I think are great. The Gothic series despite the bugs. Demon's Souls. The king's Field series on the PS (especially the Ancient City). Final Fanatasy. Oblivion. Bioshock. Mass Effect. Dungeon Siege. Diablo. Resident Evil. Darkstone. Rune.

All of which I have played more than once and will probably play again.

Dragon Age isn't even in the same planet as these, let alone the ball park.

Oblivion:  Not a RPG.
Dungeon Siege:  Not a RPG.
Diablo:  Not a RPG.
Resident Evil:  Not a RPG.

The others I'm not familiar with, but I believe I'm seeing a pattern.  You should realize what an RPG is and is not.  Clearly you do not really like RPGs.  Knowing this will help you avoid any future unfortunate purchases.

Now oblivion was interesting, i played 10 hrs then stopped didnt even finish the major quest. It just did too much and none particularly well. Secondly how could you possibly not like the challenge of this game since you like demon souls. Even on normal i feel everyfew fights i just bareley escape from:alien:

Cant really understand why OP has to show up here and whine about something as silly as a computer game, seeing as he's so cool that he drives an american heap of junk to his special needs class every day.
I recently purchased Gears of War 2 for my XBox360 -- it was cheap and I thought I'd try a FPS on console - the experience left me disgusted within 10 minutes as the controls are crap compared to PC. Did I go to a GoW-forum to whine about it? No, because I've at least got some sense of decorum and just chalk that game up to experience to never even try FPS-type games on a console. Maybe the OP should try something similar and just go back to playing Diablo-esque Hack'nSlash games - I hear the Sacred and Divine Divinity-games are good..

American heap of junk? The only people who say that about the new vettes are people who hate them because they know they can't beat them on the drag strip, out-handle them on the road.or outrun them on the autobahn.

This is one of the better troll posts we have seen on this forum. The OP is clueless but he sure can craft a good troll.

"I drive a 2008 Corvette" lol If that isn't childish I don't know what is. Paying for DLC content is standard these days unfortunately. You either do it or you give up gaming. Also, everything you complained about is what makes this game great. If you don't like lots of conversation maybe you should stick with shooters. A really good RPG is supposed to have lots of dialogue, things to read, quests that have to be found instead of the game holding your hand everywhere you go. But it's pretty obvious that this isn't your preferred style of gaming.

Well my cartoon is appropriate as this thread doesn't really have a point or a topic.

My cartoon perfectly describes your first few posts. Stupid uneducated opinions being torn to shreds by everybody in this thread.

I don't know where the non-sequitor nonsense came from.

You are trolling, whether you realize it or not.

This thread reminds me of the tool that complained over and over about the tactics system. How does what type of car one drives determine whether or not said person is qualified to tell other people about games?

Demon's Souls is no where near as hard as they say. I played through it twice before picking up DAO. I have to admit I started as a magic user not melee in DAO and targeting things (no target command) is what I don't like. And since the magic user can't take much damage, targeting fast is necessary. I probably need to use the pause. It's just that the game isn't much fun to me. I play rpg's in the winter (have better things to do when it's warm out) and I am looking for escape into worlds and places and I can't go to in the real world. DAO doesn't provide that kind of realistic escape for me.

I like Oblivion but it is not a RPG.  I also have not finished the main quest, but will eventually.  Oblivion has a great countryside, but the scaling is really annoying (eventually every bandit on the road has epic armor), and they nerfed a lot of nice features of Morrowind (medium armor, spears, etc.) IMO because they had to simplify things for consoles.  I have called Oblivion "Morrowind for Dummies".  Both Morrowind and Oblivion have limited role-playing, mostly involving "career choices"--am I an ax-wielding berserker, sneaky archer, herbalist, or damage mage?

Dungeon Siege was also fun but had zero role-playing.  Some of Dragon Age's combat system is similar to Dungeon Siege II, and makes me want to pull that off the shelf and do another run-through.  But ultimately Dungeon Siege II gets boring because there is nothing to the game beyond combat and character configuration.

Given fourthrockers list of favourite" RPG's", and the subsequent nature of his posts(the revhead nature of them), I have the perfect RPG for him, it's called Forza Motorsport 3, you play the "role" of a race car driver, he'd love it.

I don't know why posts like this one cause such a backlash. At the end of the day the OP is just stating his opinion which he is entitled to. Some people love the game and some people don't...end of story.

I heart DAO. This is one of THE finest RPG's I have played with and that's without considering the fantastic toolset BioWare put out for it. Is it on the level of Xenogears and FFVII? I think with some more DLC and once community MODS start rolling out I think it will be, this is my opinion but I am on cloud 9 whenever I wander Ferelden.

Besides, everybody knows trolls can't stand against an army of Dwarves. Glee.

Absolutely, pausing is a must.  The battle changes in a fraction of a second, your mouse just can't move fast enough to order all of the actions necessary for your party in a tough encounter.

This is the worst RPG I have played in a while, since one I played a couple years ago which is virtually identical (and never finished because it sucked too). None of the reviews mention the fact that this game uses the totally unfun system of not actually traveling in the world but clicking on a location on the map and traveling there automatically with a stop in the middle when you are attacked. The big difference in this game is that it uses this method to stop you everywhere and try and sell you more content. I am sorry, but when I buy a game I expect to get the whole game with the admission price, call me crazy. Then add to that that the combat systems sucks and the quest system doesn't work and 95% of the game is listenening to conversation. Most quests give you absolutely no idea where to go. Some say go to the place marked on the map but there isn't a place marked on the map. some quests have mini-map pointers which works but most don't, even in a city. Worse, the places on the map aren't named the same as the quest so it's impossible to find anything except by trial and error. Mostly I am mad because reviews don't actually tell you anything about a game or gameplay so i wasted my money on this steaming heap and I don't even get a complete or working game. I have been playing rpg's since before most of you were born and this kind of rpg wouldn't even rate a 1 on a scale of 10. It is incomplete, unplayable and it sucks. It wouldn't be so bad if the quest system worked and the combat system didn't suck but if they did this kind of game isn't fun.

problem with this guy is he was expecting a different type of rpg, not the 3rd person top down clicky kind that is not an open sandbox.

I don't think he is a troll at all, and has valid points, his grammar and sentence structure sucks though lol.

"I never said it was hard, I said it was bad."

Without really saying why....

Why is the control system bad? Seems to work fine on my PC, and its based on a long established mechanic for party based combat...

Why is the quest system bad? You haven't really said...

You stomp and shout about 95% of the game being dialogue, yet of course its not. As I mentioned, theres sections of the game where you go hours without conversation. And again, its a CRPG, whats wrong with dialogue?

And finally...no-one cares how big you say your winky is. You can't prove it without posting a pic, and that would be WRONG and EEEWW and probably get you booted from the forums, just in the same way I can't prove that I look like Brad Pitt and have a Harem. (okay, I don't, but its ridiculously easy for people to claim stuff on the net. it doesn't make you special)

I want to know why your sitting here for what..over an hour, writing replies...instead of out burning up the streets with your fast exspensive car , which lm sure has 3 sexy models waiting for you.

Just curious.

I only know of two people who solicit dlc, one in camp and one roving trader. For a game that lasts 60 hours (first playthrough for me was around 40 second playthrough has been around 50) two encounters really aren't that 'in your face!'

As for the quests, I play on console (360) and if you go into the journal there's usually an accompanying codex as well as a directional phrase usually near the end of the paragraph that tells you where to search to get the marker to pop up. Furthermore you can select active quests to highlight what your doing. Which quests gave you trouble?

The combat system in this shouldn't be too terribly different from your experience with mass effect only this game is more skill intensive, requiring you to use the radial menu more often. Still, from a hypothetical standpoint we can probably all agree this game offers a high level of tactical play.

And there is lots of dialogue, but it's all voiced and well voiced. Not to mention it tells a really solid story. I can tell you, ride this game out and you will see there are several scenes in this that will have you eating your hat. Either it'll be really cool or really f'ed up.

Good luck.

@ the OP.

Definetely use the pause, and please try to tone down the difficulty. You can set the game to 'easy' if you like. It should get better this way.

From your lists of rpgs I can tell you may not have played any Bioware games before. Unlike Oblivion, most of them are story-driven and have a lot of conversations in them. Bioware rpgs are also about using the party a lot. And keeping mages out of harms way, sending your fighter (tank) to take the damage...

If you don't like targeting things, try using the tactics system.

Anyone who knows anything about cars knows (and has known for quite some time) that american ones are a huge heaps of junk. Trying to make up for crap handling by sticking more horses under the bonnet is a trademark of yank-tanks. Gas-guzzling and cornering like an aircraft-carrier are others.

... incidentally, it's quite neat to troll a troll....  wonder if there's a word for it... retrolling perhaps.. or con-trolling
