Just to let all the losers know that I drive a 50,000 dollar car,  (as well as a 20,000 dollar bike) yes very sad indeed lol. What is truly sad is the intelligent responses and the fact that everyone has so little experience with rpg's that they think this game is good (not to mention so little experience with the english language)

You are still wrong.

I have been playing rpg's since before most of you were born and this kind of rpg wouldn't even rate a 1 on a scale of 10.

My favorite part of the OP's original wall of text.  The poor 14 year old twitch boys are resorting to this now. I wonder when they will realise there were RPG's before computers?

I can admit when I am wrong. I may have been a little hasty saying the combat system sucks. Like I said I play these kind of games for immersion, escape from reality. Pausing the game constantly in mid battle destroys immersion. But it doesn't ruin the game so when I play again I will reprogram my gamepad so the pause is easier to use.

The thing I don't like about the quests is that I could see no way to find the location for them. I went to Denerim and got all the chanters quests. 3 inside town and 3 outside. The ones inside town did not have a pointer on the mini-map like some quests inside towns do. Inconsistant. Call it hand holding but if you are going to have an in town pointer on some quests why not on all of them or none of them?

So I looked at the outside town quests, Loghains Push to be exact said to go to the place marked on the map. I opened the world map and the only location that appeared to be marked was Sulchers Pass so I went there and I am immediately asked to buy extra content just like in camp. sorry, but i find salesmen extremely annoying in a game.

Am I wrong in at least expecting the name of the locations on the world map for the quests to at least have the same name as the quest or some indication as to what quest they are for?

Maybe the game encourages you to think? From what I've read that encouragement may be neccessary.

Resident Evil 1, and Tomb Raider 1 for that matter, are classics that will be played and remembered long after this game is forgotten (which will be next year). And in both of them you play a single character where you explore a world and uncover a background story which is about as RPG as it gets. It's YOU people who don't know what an RPG is.

Yeah, pausing the game is a little annoying at times but you can map buttons to your quick slots and set tactics so your other characters can do what you want them to do when you want them to.

As for the quests, the ones your talking about are partially random encounters. Several quests you actually have to just happen across in your travels. Also, when you exit denerim you should come to a seperate map that shows a bunch of extra locations (the alienage and the pearl and a few others) some of the quest markers only pop up when you visit these places. Again, it should mention what to do in your quest log.

Loghains push I believe is the 'civil war' battle field (or something similar). And yeah, the guy you talked to in sulchers pass is the guy who offers Shale's quest which came free with a lot of copies of this game which I think kinda makes up for the awkwardness of it.

And no you aren't wrong to ask for an indication in the quest log, this is kinda like Mass Effect where it just tells you the general location (solar system) and you have to figure out the rest. I'm assuming they wanted you to put some of the pieces together yourself...can't fault em for trying. XD

And how this differs from an adventure game has yet to be determined.

Next year? I see...

Something/someone else here should not even be remembered 1 more hour, but we both know that none of this is true. ;)

@ the OP

I think Sulcher's Pass is the place where you pick up Shale? You should have gotten a free promotional code to redeeom on this site, meaning that you shouldn't have to buy it. And believe you me, you're not the only one who finds salesman in a game annyoing...

In BG1 and BG2, the place would be clearly marked on your map, If this is not the case in your DA:O game, it could be a bug that's need fixing. Then again, I do remember that a Bioware dev. said that they've only put a quest icon on some quests and not others. Why Bioware did this, I don't know...

And again, try playing on easy. This setting is for those who don't like to pause the game constanstly....

Since it is obvious that everyone here will stand on their own position whatever will be said, I suggest that we let the Blight swallow up this thread and forget about it.

Please don't start the whole "I know what an RPG is and you don't!" thing...it pops up a lot on forums when the poster is desperate...

I play Pen and Paper RPGs and have done for a long time, I also play CRPGs and have done for a long time. Trust me, I know what an RPG is. If you insist that Resident Evil and that exacrable piece of over-hyped, unresponsive, badly laid out drivel Tomb Raider are RPGs, then please explain why they are NEVER listed as such anywhere? If I pick up a gaming magazine, its not going to list Tomb Raider in the RPG section. It IS going to list a whole ton of Bioware games, including the Baldur's Gate games, which are the ones Bioware intended DA:O to be a spiritual successor to.

Mostly I am mad because reviews don't actually tell you anything about a game or gameplay so i wasted my money on this steaming heap and I don't even get a complete or working game.

Sorry, I have a difficult time feeling much sympathy for this BS.
In this day and age you can find a plethora of gameplay information and video footage on the interweb.
You could've simply informed yourself about every single detail of DA:O, with a few clicks of your mouse, before purchasing. It's not like the old days anymore, where games reviewers were the only source of information.

Resident Evil will always be a classic because it was the first to break ground in that genre.  Tomb Raider however doesn't hold a candle to anything then or now.  However if you want to see what the first real Computer RPG's were i suggest trying out some old Bard's Tale, Pool of Radiance and the first Elder scrolls; The Arena.

The only reason you want those arrows pointing out the quests for you is because you have been playing WoW way to long and don't realise before they started holding your hand you actually had to explore and discover the quests.  Doing quests was supposed to be a grand adventure but now they are just a pit stop along the path of the game that just advance you a level.

I agree. DA doesn't provide much immersion. In fact I don't feel like actually being the main character. Its more like I'm guiding him through the story. Games like Gothic/TES are much better in terms of immersion.
For some people this fact destroys most of the RPG fun, which is undestandable. Others don't care that much about it and enjoy the awesome story and movie-like presentation.
I would not say its a flaw for the effect depends very much on the players preference.

I disagree. The questlog actually tells you most of the time where to go. "Back alley justice" for example implies that you have to go to the back alleys. I admit that I first thought the backalleys were in market district...which  proved to be wrong. Actually it took some time until I realized Denerim had his own travel map. From then it was obvious where to go. If there is no way the quest log implies any direction you will probably find the quest-goal due to random encounters. Just travel along the map. Btw: "Loghains Push" has got its own icon. Its called "Civil War", which is a totally reasonable implication, too.

I was thinking of writing an assmbler program to act as a low level driver for my GPU. But then I started wondering if the windows 5.1.2600 kernel would allow me to insert my code, assuming that I had ring O access and that the execute disable bit functionality was disabled. Then I thought of altering the code in the hardware abstraction layer, only to realise that although it would give me my desired low-level functionality, I would have limited high-level functionality, which I also need. Any suggestions?

Resident Evil will always be a classic................................. ADVENTURE/SURVIVAL HORROR GAME!!!!

Tomb Raider will always be a classic..........................................ACTION/ADVENTURE Game

Next thing you will be calling Legend of Zelda an RPG(which is a pet hate of mine) All 3 games are some of the best games ever made but not 1 of them is an RPG.
