I agree. DA doesn't provide much immersion. In fact I don't feel like actually being the main character. Its more like I'm guiding him through the story. Games like Gothic/TES are much better in terms of immersion.
For some people this fact destroys most of the RPG fun, which is undestandable. Others don't care that much about it and enjoy the awesome story and movie-like presentation.
I would not say its a flaw for the effect depends very much on the players preference.
This is my major gripe with every bioware rpg pretty much. Even though i can't stand the modern TES games(morrowind and oblivion) I can still get immersed in world quite easily. I've never been able to do so in any of these 3rd person top down clicky clicky rpgs. The only time I feel immersion is when i'm in dialogue or cutscenes.
I think it really just comes down to game mechanics, and I feel sorry for rpg fans who only really have ever known this style of rpg, because theres much more, and much better, out there.
