Hi...I'd just like to point out that Cailan was not using a color coordinated Keening Blade Longsword with his prissy gold "I'm the King" Armor.
Nor is even whats being shown accurate to what we personally saw in the game itself.
Come on BioWare get a grip you can't keep using that damn model, its not common in Ferelden human, dwarven or elven smithery. In fact its not even common Orlesian smithery....just where does that kind of smithing design come from? Its not reconciled anywhere in the fantasy lore, its simply a model tacked into the game with the meaningless Gaxkhang side quest and its only reasonable explanation is its somehow "Fade" forged.
But yet there it is again, its in use for the Keening Blade and for the Starfang Longsword.
Someone in the art department needs to find whoever's fallen in love with that model and slap them across the face really hard several times.
Are there any threads on here where the post doesn't start with someone crying like a little girl?

He had it in his tent with his shield because he likes to use the 2-hander against darkspawn ?
Warriors of old and even today have specific weapons for specific jobs. When surounded by darkspawn I would prefer to use a 2 handed weapon as it could kill opponents behind and to the flanks of you. Completly pointless in a shield wall though, so thats where the sheild and longsword comes into play. But then if we go historical longswords were not used in shield walls.
So you see we can go round in circles or accept that this is a fantasy game written by BioWare. If you dont like it dont buy it.

Is this forum not in part here to express concerns over this Game ?
I see that it regards here a mere&small graphical aspect of it. For those claiming that is unimportant, I find that rather hard to believe.
I do not know the amount, but I'm sure quite a deal of money was invested in the graphical design and visual art for Dragon Age. Those that have played trough it are sure to have enjoyed most of that and I'm sure it was a boon to the games' immersion.
Those that post here have bought said game and thus in part helped pay the bills for it's modelling & texturing.
The OP's concern may but be about a small thing such as a sword.. But where would gaming stand today had Developers not cared about details?
Anyway I just wanted to type my 2 cents about that first.
As for the OP's issue with the blade. I don't find most of your arguements there are valid ones.
But as the blade goes for sheer looks I'm in the same boat as you are. It's Ugly. There's just no way around that. I personally avoided the use of the infamous starfang & keening blade already for that reason.
The model has proportions so strange they'd bring a real swordsmith to shame I'd imagine. ^^
And then the textures used on this unnamed blade as well as starfang's incline me to believe I
'm weelding some kind of Giant Popsicle rather than a Razorsharp edge of righteousness (or butt-kicking if you'd prefer). You can only imagine what that can do to immersion.
A modern soldier armed with a waterpistol seems more of a threat than that.
Don't get me wrong. I don't mean for it that all swords should look bland&plain. I like some special looks or effects on those few *powerful* weapons.
Just not the candy-art-direction-type obviously.
Something for either the Biowarians to concider in future DLC or for the modders among us is to resize and retexture some of the 2handed models to 1hand models and vice versa.
EG: I thought a resized summersword (ser cauthriens' 2hander) could make a very nice
looking 1hander as well given the proper adjustments.
Peace out!

A life that includes not reading or referencing books that contain lore which is the topic of discussion?
No thanks. You keep your video gaming and Internet insult hurling life.

Reusing armor models for DLC is weak. We're paying new money, give us new models.
They know we are going to buy it anyway so whatever ... nobody cares lol.

Err... not to suggest anything with relation to RtO, but you're very wrong. Both books frequently refer to Maric's blade as a longsword. Not a greatsword or a 2-handed sword. Maric is pictured holding the blade in both hands on the cover of the Stolen Throne, but I assure you it really is a longsword.SLPr0 wrote...
Since King Maric's blade is pretty constantly shown throughout the books that he has a preference for 2 handed weaponry, the sword he finds in the Deep Roads is a 2 handed sword that in description bears out the texture design of Starfang to a certain degree but not the models in use with it.
The blade that was in the files for DAO was never put into the game, insofar as I'm aware. I think there was an intention to do so, but the plot where you got it was eventually cut.
Whether you like the style of the blade or not, it's pretty close to the one pictured on the Stolen Throne cover. And I'll leave it at that.

Many options are possible when it comes to a fantasy game, one could say have a dragon appear from nothing or so forth it's not hard they need little to no explanation aside from something like " Because the game code says so." simple no?
At least complain about it after the DLC has been released.

So it's Maric's sword isn't it? Or at least one crafted to be like his. After all whatever the style of the blade is it probably was replicated by a Ferelden smith or it could of been a gift to King Cailan by another country though probably not by Orlais they're still sore about the whole rebellion thing.

That sword really isn't that effective in combat though, not in a realistic sense, but that doesn't matter.

Modders made some good places too.
Personally I think my roleplay would be to RESCUE the king's armor and set it up someplace in remembrance and honour. That means an ability to actually set up armor and weaponry on display, ...this ever going to happen Bioware?
Its not right to wear it. Besides like others in this thread have stated, here we Wardens are protesting our innocence.."no we were framed we didn't kill the King it was Loghain"...then we are seen prancing around in the King's one of a kind armor?
Yeah right.
