Human Soldier: Effective in Gold

I have played around with just about every class, and initially agreed with the notion that soldier is underpowered. That was until I stopped trying to build it around power spam and instead focused on augmenting and suplementing my weapons.

Build:
Adrenaline Rush: Damage - Duration - Shield Boost (5.71s reacharge, 6.8s duration, 65% damage boost.)
Frag Grenade: Damage - Bleed Damage - Armor Piercing (960 damage, 6.5 radius)
Alliance Training: Weapon Damage - Headshots - Weapon Damage (27.5% weapon damage)
Fitness: Durability - Shield Recharge - Fitness Expert (825/825 HP/SP)

Weapons:
Mantis X (Barrel V - Piercing I)
Katana X (Barrel V - Smart Choke V)
Weight: 50%

Ammo:
Always use an ammo perk. I prefer incendiary for added health and armor damage, with for the panic effect for CC

With AR, I am able to 2-3 shot maruaders up to about 20-30 meters with the katana (I would use eviscerator if I had it at X.) This is where the smart choke is key. It allows you to use a shotgun effectively for quite a long range. The main thing to do with it is to save AR for when you really need it to save yourself or others when fighting trash mobs. Against large targets, spend a few shots, AR to a full clip, and unload.

Snipe whenever you have a chance. Go for headshots. It takes only one head shot without AR to kill basic mobs. 2 for shielded mobs (1 shot then AR and shoot again.) Ravagers go down quickly to a mantis. Reload cancel to fire faster Do this by clicking sprint\\ without moving, or by doing any other action that iterrupts a reload AFTER you pop a new clip in. You do NOT have to pull the bolt back! This works for any long reload weapon.

Be liberal with grenades in early rounds for clearing trash, but always stock up afterwards. Later on, save grenades for larger, unshielded enemies or for a secondary panic button (AR being your first.)

With this build, I've cleared reapers two out of three attempts tonight, with every game (including the loss) had me significantly higher than other players. This included asari adept, salarian infiltrator, human sentinal, and others. My highest score was around 125k.

I may be missing some tips, so any other gold effective soldiers have any advice?

I find soldier with Falcon works very very very well for just general fire support for a team.

It lets you stagger most things easily and break them from cover if theres things like nemesis hiding or when cannibals group to eat a corpse too.

Solid build and advice. 

I read a post on the forums yesterday about a guy and his luck with +thermal clips.  I believe he could hold 5 clips in a match.  3+5=15 FRICKIN FRAGS uber spam in a tight spot.

I REALLY like concussive shot, but to be honest I do use it mostly to pop trash away/off team mates.

I think your post sealed it.  Gonna respec and get back my frags.  I do miss them.

P.S.  Any hard hitting and accurate gun is fantastic on a human soldier.  Saber is BOSS.  Wish I had one.  Black Widow is nasty.  Carnifex is clutch etc.  Human soldier is really only limited by your fps skills and weapon loadout.

I have a Falcon II atm, and while it is effective, I still prefer my build in the OP. Keep in mind that shotguns and snipers stagger easily as well. And, from what I can tell, the shotgun/sniper combo does damage faster at thier intended ranges. That might be because I only have a Falcon II and assault rifle barrel I atm (extended clip for secondary.) Time will tell.

Can you substitute any other sort of shotgun or does that mess with weight capacities?

I always pick the weight options so i can carry an AR and sniper rifle without increasing my Adren rush cooldown much.

You should be fine with any of the lighter shotguns. Just no GPS, spike thrower, or claymore.

Same deal for sniper rifles.

Do note that I have level X for both guns, so that matters.

This works well for infiltrator as well. Especially Salarian Infiltrator, due to energy drain allowing you to stay in close to enemies.

This has been my observation as well. Concussive shot while nice isn't what I thought it would be. Fully talented frag grenade? Now that hurts enemies badly. Also weapon damage bonus is the way to go I went for power & duration bonuses but when I respec'd noticed a huge huge difference in the kind of dps I could put out. I still have not found a weapon that I am attached to yet.

I have the Avenger X - its what I use now until I can find something better
I have the Vindicator I - but again its ok
I have the Mattock I - it's "ok" still waiting for a scope so i can use it for headshots

I have a level 14 human soldier armed only with the Geth shotgun III, and I have been kicking ass and taking names in silver against the Reapers...too bad my credits and level up got erased. And then I couldn't connect to the server.

But, yeah, Geth shotgun, kicking ass.

Am I missing something on the falcon? I have it but find it underwhelming. It's heavy, low ammo, the only time I see it's worth are when enemies are bunched together. Single target it's useless what am I missing?

It's good for dealing with bunched up trash quickly, especially with cryo ammo. It will also stagger some mid size enemies, and can deal decent damage to large enemies when used by a DPS AR soldier (like the build I posted.) Taking down large enemies is more the job of biotic explosions and widows, though.

I prefer the Battlefield 3 human soldier. Maxed out Carnage with +180% recharge speed = homing incendiary missiles every couple of seconds. Works wonders against regular enemies mobbing team mates, as well as staggering the tougher ones so the rest of my time can get in and finish the job. Combine that with frags, incendiary ammo and a maxed out assault rifle, and you're laughing.

Blast I've been playing my human soldier wrong from the sound of it (my 1st character, still level 19 only), I max out on concussive shot and what I usually do is concussive shot a target and then hose it down with my level 1 starter assault rifle. Doesn't work very well in most cases and I've been wondering about that.....

It should be obvious that a soldier should be center the build around his arsenal, and the fact that the majority don't have the X level upgrades does make the class underpowered.

I myself have been playing around with Falcon, and it works pretty good as long as I don't stray far from ammo boxes to stay stocked up.

The problem with assault rifles is that they require you to expose yourself for extended periods and most do poor damage to armor, which is on a lot of gold opponents. With a shotgun and sniper rifle, you can engage and kill waves of trash mobs shooting at you and deal with larger enemies as well.

I recently finished leveling my Vindicator, and it seems to be handling better than other rifles, due to its burst firing allowing for more efficient pot shots. Still not as good as a shotgun's or sniper rifle's burst, but quite good for the weight. It also seems to handle armor better as well. I'd recommend it for other classes, or if you want to AR more.

This is what I usually do. Except my falcon is only 9 and not at 10 yet.
I've been in groups with only adrenaline rush soldiers spaming falcon and it just wrecks everything. It may even be better than a full team of adepts. The aoe damage is pretty funny.

Mattock's pretty good with this class.

In adrenaline rush with the damage mod and all weapon increases from the passive talent you can end up dealing over 200 damage per shot. Not including headshots.

I'll give that a go once I get my assault rifle extended barrel to V. It's only at I atm.

A big reason why my katana is so effective is because it is leveled up and has both the choke and barrel mods at level V. Gives the katana incredible knockdown power and range.

AR plus the geth plasma shotgun, mine's at lvl VI.. 5 reg shots, then auto reload with AR and have 5 extra AR shots with the geth plasma shotgun is devastating.

If you're a soldier and you're using a sniper rifle you should be an infiltrator instead. Because he can do significant more damage per shot than you can.

Use a falcon. Profit.
