Hmm I can see how the Katana would be effective.  Good at close and medium range with the choke mod so you're not caught with your pants down like the Mattock which is only effective at medium range.

Been running similar build with mantis x and eviscerator VI. Deals a bit more damage than the katana and I believe has some armour piercing. Less shots though and a little bit heavier.

Works pretty well, success in a mission seems to depend heavily on what other classes on the team there is as you lack the ability to deal major damage to the tougher elites.

When my Mattock is upgraded some I may switch the sniper rifle to the Mattock, ideally I'd use an upgraded Saber but don't see that coming along anytime soon.

I have a Falcon II atm, and while it is effective, I still prefer my build in the OP. Keep in mind that shotguns and snipers stagger easily as well. And, from what I can tell, the shotgun/sniper combo does damage faster at thier intended ranges. That might be because I only have a Falcon II and assault rifle barrel I atm (extended clip for secondary.) Time will tell. 


I just find Falcon being better fire support as a whole.  Its general use, range, and overall accuracy of the shots just give you more support for your team (clearing weak groups or holding a side off while the rest of the team helps down a big thing on another side)

Not to be "that guy" but isn't adrenaline rush actually called "Marksman"?

Just did a Gold match with a BF3 soldier using a Raptor and Phalanx. Totally owned. The claim that the soldier is underpowered are from bad players obviously.

Finally, someone that appreciates the Human Soldier. Personally, I stick with Concussive Shot just to CC lower level enemies, but I agree that the Human Soldier can be pretty amazing.

I find I can consistently get top scores with a soldier running Mattock I and I don't even have the AR extended barrel mod (I actually thought that mod didn't exist??). The Mattock is just a beast, ridiculous DPS and a headshot machine.

As people have said, ammo power is the key.

Raptor is completely underrated. It is very good. I have the Raptor V and I just wreck everything using a Barrel V and Pierce IV.

Just because noone answered you: Adrenaline Rush is the Human Soldier Skill. Marksman is the one of the Turrian Soldier. Different skill, different effect.

Ah, thanks for answering that. I never tried the human soldier yet, only the Turian. I know with Marksman it speeds me up in that if I'm using a Saber I can pump rounds twice as fast (it does not slow time but it makes my reaction time seem faster?...)

I just played a few gold matches last night with my L20 soldier (now promoted) armed with a Falcon II. We actually got through the 3 objectives on Ghost against Cerberus. Couldn't quite finish though. And then we did Glacier against Cerberus and actually won. That was my first gold win ever. Of course, the fact that we had one or two asari adepts on the team may have had something to do with it. I was blowing stuff away left and right, and still came in last place. Usually I'm top score with the weapon. Guess I lucked out with a great team.

The problem I have with the OP's stance is that the soldier is the only class in the game that requires an ammo mod to hold his own. This means it is not equal to the other classes that do not require expendables to succeed in gold.

I only do Golds with my Engi because my Soldier, as good as I am with him, succeeds in Silver, but I'm uncertain of him in Gold and don't want to be a burden on my team.

Same with the Vanguard and Sentinels, but that's just because I'm no good with them personally, and I know it. I don't normally subject people to me using those classes on Silver :P

Very true, Soldier was gimped (not quite) by MP because the soldier big stick was having the main ammo powers in his arsenal effectively letting him handle anything with anything.

I consider him like the Warden (from allods online) the warden is a powerful class but is truely scary with a little simple prep. They have powers that only work if you have the items needed to craft the potion the power creates. Take that extra second to equip an ammo power on your soldier and bada boom he's good.

Shot gun CS and armour / insend ammo = dead things fast i use the basic shotgun lvl X and i fire CS when my ammo runs out 9/10 times i stager the foe reload and let another 5 shots off i run barrel V and choke IV atm and it works wonders.

Also cryo ammo + scatter from a shotgun can freeze many foes at once then frag them, using frags correctly is a real life saver I never use AR in MP I see no need myself .
